But to be serious, big Kudos to every mascot who took part Football League
THEY'RE UNDER STARTER'S ORDERS Posted on: 02.10.2009 This Sunday sees the 11th John Smiths Mascot Grand National taking place at Huntingdon Racecourse with a strong field expected to be involved in the race. The event started in 1999 with a small field of just 17 but to date has increased considerably with forecasts for this year's event expected to reach the 100 mark. Birmingham City's Beau Brummie Bulldog won the very first race held on the racecourse and has since been joined by other more notable past winners in the Roll of Honour including; Watford's Harry the Hornet and two-time champion Oldham Athletic's Chaddy the Owl. Mascot's up and down the country will have been training for months to get in shape for the mad dash down the course which is measured at one furlong with each mascot adopting their own unique style and strategy for tackling the course. The Willow Foundation, which was founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson OBE, is the event's official charity which provides young adults living with a life-threatening illness the chance to escape the pressures of their daily routine and spend special days with family and friends. Good luck to all the mascots in this year's race which sees Saffron Walden's Wacky Macky Bear going for a hat-trick of titles following wins in 2007 and 2008. www.football-league.co.uk/latestnews/theyre-under-starters-orders-20091002_2245681_1816112

I'm sure Jude won that once, or something very much like it, I vaguely recall anyway.

Stag wins the Mascot Grand National(UKPA) – 11 minutes ago A Kiwi dressed as a stag has run like a whippet to win the annual Mascot Grand National. New Zealander Heath Crawford, 25, donned the furry costume of Huntingdon rugby club's stag before winning the annual charity race at Huntingdon racecourse in Cambridgeshire. "It was pretty difficult because I couldn't see where I was going because I had this stag head on," he said. "I didn't do any special training. Just normal rugby training. I have no idea what my time would be for the 100 or the 200 metres." Mr Crawford, who comes from Wellington and moved from New Zealand club Tawa to Huntingdon at the start of the season. He defeated about 70 other mascots including Sheffield United's Captain Blade, Nottingham Forest's Robin Hood, Queens Park Rangers' Spark, Norwich City's Captain Canary, Charlton Athletic's Floyd, Bradford City's City Gent, Northampton Town's Clarence the Dragon, Exeter City's Grecian The Lion, AFC Wimbledon's Haydon the Womble, Cambridge United's Marvin the Moose, Derby County's Rammie, Mansfield Town's Sammy the Stag and Cheltenham Town's Whaddney the Robin. It was the 11th time that the Mascot Grand National had been run prior to a race meeting at Huntingdon.
