I'm shocked. Shocked! Sc**thorpe Telegraph - Wharton rebuffs claims of bid for Hooper - IRON chairman Steve Wharton has played down claims Queen's Park Rangers have had a transfer deadline day bid for Gary Hooper rejected. He admits he had a chat with Rangers' sporting director Gianni Paladini about the striker after the two teams' Championship clash at Glanford Park last Saturday. But he denies a fee had been mentioned. "After we played QPR on Saturday, they told us Hooper was a player that they had admired and asked me if he would be for sale," said the United chairman. "I told them the answer was 'no'. "If that constitutes a bid for him, then I suppose yes they have made one. But I have had no further conversation with anyone from QPR since then.

And what Gianni Paladini said BBC - Iron 'rejected' QPR's Hooper bid Sc**thorpe are reluctant to lose Hooper QPR sporting director Gianni Paladini says the club had a pre-deadline bid for Gary Hooper rejected by Sc**thorpe. Rangers are believed to have offered around £1m for the striker, who netted 30 goals last season and has scored three times so far this term. Paladini said: "We made a bid for Hooper but it was rejected. We were told that he is not for sale news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/q/qpr/8232056.stmSKY QPR fail with Hooper bid Cash-rich side fail to land Sc**thorpe striker Queens Park Rangers sporting director Gianni Paladini has revealed the club had a bid for Gary Hooper rejected by Sc**thorpe United. Hooper has been linked with a summer move away from Glanford Park after netting 30 goals for the Iron last season. It is claimed QPR offered around £1million for the striker but Sc**thorpe rejected the approach from their Championship rivals. Paladini said: "We made a bid for Hooper but it was rejected. We were told that he is not for sale." Sc**thorpe signed Hooper, 21, from Southend United for £175,000 in July last year. www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11725_5530146,00.html

Well asking if a player was up for sale is not a bid. We have had months to go after hooper and we then fail to offer them a serious bid.In the last week of teh window.........madness Unreal.

Or...Just not too good at the job.
It's hard to understand what Briatore et al are really trying to do. No one denies the team is strengthened (and the debt and annual loss increased)...So we've gone so far out. But won't buy the one or two players who would give us a reasonably good chance of making at least the playoffs.

And like the ripple from a stone thrown into the pond.... SkySports - Iron deny Hooper reports No bid from QPR Last updated: 2nd September 2009 Hooper: No bid Sc**thorpe United have denied claims they rejected a bid from Queens Park Rangers for star striker Gary Hooper. The 21-year-old joined The Iron last summer from Southend United and finished as one of the top-scorers in League One. A number of clubs have shown an interest, and it was claimed that QPR had seen a £1million offer turned down. But chairman Steve Wharton insists that there was only ever a brief enquiry from Rangers after the two clubs played last weekend. "After we played QPR on Saturday, they told us Hooper was a player that they had admired and asked me if he would be for sale," said the United chairman. "I told them the answer was 'no'. "If that constitutes a bid for him, then I suppose yes they have made one. Lies, Lies, Nothing but Lies.
Gwet this vile man out of our club, this has gone on for far too long, its damaged our appreciation of our own club, that cant be right can it ??
One word for Paladini, Vermin.
He's not good enough a Rymans League team let alone QPR.
Enough is Enough, this is just getting ridiculous, people have had enough.

Rather than risk a barage of abuse (deservedly yet again) by not solving our squad weak links - up front, it is better to suggest we made a bid for several well known strikers after the window closed so that fans might think they were indeed making an effort but failed. Yeah right, I doubt if a bid was made for either Hooper or Beckford. Players whom have sprung up out of no where yet our manager has made no mention of looking for a striker.
