I'm better suited to playing same role as Stevie Gerrard, says Motherwell new boy Giles Coke

GILES COKE was a standout for Motherwell last week in the role perfected by Claude Makelele - but insists he's more of a Steven Gerrard.
Jim Gannon threw the summer signing from Northampton a surprise when he asked him to play as a holding midfielder against Kilmarnock at Fir Park.
However, the 23-year-old looked as if he had been there all his career with a brilliant display in the 3-1 win.
Coke enjoyed the experience but has told Well fans he's more at home bursting forward from the middle of the park like Liverpool and England superstar Gerrard.
Giles said: "The holding role isn't my position to be honest.
"But the manager sat me down last week and said Kevin Kyle was the danger man for Killie.
"So we had a little talk about how we were going to screen him.
"I prefer to be more attacking but if the gaffer asks you to do a job you just do it.
"The best player in that position was Makelele but I don't want to go down that route particularly.
"People said he just sat without running anywhere but a lot of Chelsea's success was down to him.
"When I played the role I realised how much work was involved.
"I still see myself as an attacking midfielder though. Gerrard and Kaka are the players I admire most."
Coke battled against adversity to win his move to Scotland after starting out in non-league football and recovering from a horror injury.
The Englishman said: "I was released by QPR as a kid and went to non-league Kingstonians but made sacrifices to work my way up.
"However, I then had a bad injury three years ago when I tore my cartilage and had three ops.
"When I came back from that I had a double hernia.
"I was at Mansfield and my contract expired while I was sidelined. They were great and offered me a deal but Northampton bought me despite the injury.
"Before I was injured Wolves were looking at me. You do think 'what if?' but I can't dwell on it too much.
"I can't have too many regrets because I'm now at Fir Park."
