Tommy Docherty in...and doing what he did best (No. Not actually managing the club to success!) Buying and selling....
IN: Tony Currie, Dave Mcreery, Chris Woods, Bob Hazell, Steve Wicks, Gordon Hill, Steve Burke...
Out: Gerry Francis, John Hollins (Shame we didn't keep him)..STAN BOWLES ( )
And a forward line of an 18 year Clive Allen (who was top scorer with 30 goals) and Paul Goddard...
Garry Waddock given his chance...Ditto Dean Neal. In the reserves, Fereday...
Glen Roeder in midfied/defense...
And then before the start of the following season: Docherty sacked...Docherty reinstated....BOTH Clive Allen and Paul Goddard sold...(Tommy Langley and Andy King brought in...and a few weeks later. Docherty out...Venables in.

Tony Currie was bought from Leeds United for a record club fee of £390,000. 19 year old Clive Allen was sold to Arsenal for a fee of £1,000,000 - the first teenager to merit the million pound price..."
