Scott Donnelly Talks
Scott Donnelly featured for QPR when the west London side visited the EBB Stadium during the 2006/07 pre-season campaign; the man in charge at Loftus Road at the time was Gary Waddock. Scott is hoping to feature against his former club in Saturday's opening home friendly
It has been a positive start to the pre-season camapign for Scott Donnelly. The 21 year old signed a new one year deal at the end of the last campaign and he is keen to focus on a tough training schedule in preparation for Saturday 8th August The aim, of course, is to be in the team for the visit of Darlington to the EBB Stadium.
Indeed Scott is looking for an improvement to his form after one completed campaign in the Football League. He told 'The Shots', "I was pleased to get another contract and to be honest I didn't have as good a season as I would have liked so hopefully there will be an improvement both personally and as a team.
"We had a good start up until Christmas but it was a struggle afterwards. The opening match at Accrington was great on a personal level and for the team. It carried on for the first few results and we beat some of the so-called big teams along the way.
"The injuries did take its toll and we had four midfielders playing at the back in the last game. We got through it in the end and are looking to improve. I hope that the experience has made us stronger. We have a large bulk of the squad still together and I am really looking forward to it.
"There is a good bond in the squad and we have worked hard so far since our return especially in the heat that we had last week."
Saturday is an occasion that sees Scott against his old club, Queens Park Rangers. He came through the youth set-up at Loftus Road, when Garry Waddock was in charge of the youngsters, and made his senior debut as a 16-year-old in October 2004. However, his appearances at QPR were limited by injury and he left in 2007, a year after signing professional forms.
He added, "There will be interest in the match for me although there are not too many people there now from when I was a player. I am looking forward to it even though it is a non-competitive match.
"I had some really good times at QPR and was there a long time. I didn't really want to leave to be honest but things happen in football but I am happy to be at Aldershot Town now and priority now is for the squad to have a good pre- season as we prepare for Darlington."
