This will be my 49th season of supporting the R's. But somehow, I feel drained already. Kind of like my enthusiasm has been sucked out of me. Anyone else feeling the same?? I think it started when we sold Charlie Austin the first time. We haven't had a real striker ever since and despite fans in general been shouting out the obvious, we still do not have one. Eze was make shift and always destined for higher honours and he virtually saved the club single handedly. But the fact still remains, I cannot see us scoring freely from any position to be honest.
I think it depends what you are hoping for, or what your expectations are.
I was taken to my first match in 1958 - the ground and set up was very different, but it was just about supporting your local team.
We had our place in the pecking order, but clubs could go up and down the leagues back then.
We all know how the game has changed, freedom of contracts, agents, Sky, overseas owners, changes in society etc. etc.
It is now much harder to climb the leagues, we all watch Wrexham with interest to see if it is still possible.
The Premier League with the hype, obscene money, VAR etc. is the Holy Grail, but is it? Last season, the Jimmy Dunne wonder goal was a truly magical moment at Loftus Road, unencumbered by waiting 4 minutes to see if someone's shinpad was offside.
I understand your frustration, but I sense a far more positive atmosphere at the ground since Marti arrived. A full house for a pre-season friendly against Spurs - amazing. But after three friendlies without scoring a goal there is a sense of realism creeping in. We3 never looked like scoring. Lose our first 2 or 3 league games and it will turn to fear and loathing - that is the way in football.
But personally, I want to see a return to the good times at QPR. I want us to play the top Championships sides and beat them. play-offs / Wembley would be a massive bonus, but see above for what I think about watching Prem football.
As for any squad concerns today, it is sadly far too early. Prem teams will not decide who to loan out until the last weeks of August. Eze may move on transfer deadline day, not allowing us sufficient time to spend our windfall. Chair could be sold, Clarke-Salter as well. Key player could pick up long term injuries (sound like Fox may have one already) but so many huge variables. The window timing, and the staggered start of the leagues is crazy.
But the squad on the 31st August is the time to judge and feel deflated.
So for now, just keep the faith!
