Sunderland, Burnley… just hoping neither as our biggest signing in window is Cifuentes!
Should he leave we are back to square one with a search for a new leader and can only think going backwards to Beale …

Jesus weeps. The club actually jammy a decent manager and are in a scrap to keep him?? Only at QPR. We could always try and pry Rooney away and Frank Lampard? 49 years as a QPR fan and seriously, the last 20 have been a serious struggle of patience and mind F***s to put it bluntly.

Guess we'll see. Burnley would make a little sense. Not sure Sunderland would. At very-minimum; we're better off having had Marti Cifuentes - given that he saved us last year And Mick Beale is available!

Next season could have been a positive rebuilding and moving forward season under this guy. If he goes, we're stuffed as per normal.

A cultured sophisticated "thinker" who believes in playing good football. No BS. No over the top hype when things go well. No lame excuses or moans when matters don't work out. In general cool calm and collected. The best manager we have had since Warnock. We are fortunate to have him. Surely its all just rumour. I refuse to believe he will be leaving us after just a few months at the helm....I suppose during the close season the football media have to speculate about something!

All click bait. Have looked extensively on the web and could not find any authoritative and reliable source indicating he'll leave unless a Prem club comes calling.

More reports about Sunderland interest and million + compensation should they follow it through and get our/their man!!
This needs to be knocked on the head so the one year we should have a reasonable war chest we can build for the future as there is a definite direction we’re moving in going forward.

Can we not match or exceed their offer? Or is that also against FFP?

I presume it's nothing; but not sure! How much do Sunderland have to offer in spending on players? Would be more pressure on Marti than at QPR where at least for now; he's an absolute hero

Logically why would he want to go to Sunderland?.
Last season they finished above us but only on goal difference. They need a big rebuild - maybe even bigger than ours if they want to push up the table. They are not flush with cash - either FFP or the owners do not want to keep paying. A host of names associated with the job have walked away with pretty firm feedback that the coach is secondary to the people above. It is said the new coach is not allowed to bring more than one assistant coach in with him and has to work with the existing staff and within the football strategic policies laid down from above.
All click bait on both sides maybe but the number of people reported to have turned down the job makes me think there is no smoke without fire.
It sounds like the situation Marti would face in terms of the footballing side of things is completely opposite to what he has with us.
So a high salary , bigger stadium and crowds would seem the only reason for him to move and, tempting fate, he does not seem to be that sort. If a decent PL club came along then maybe he would want to move for the right offer but I feel he is more likely to want to finish what he started with us and achieve some success (not just avoiding relegation which was a big success) before he moves on.
I doubt he will be with us for more than 2 more seasons at the most given his track record of moving , achieving something then moving on to a new challenge and new experience. Maybe the EFL should introduce a transfer window for managers identical to that for players and cut out the manager merry go round that we have now.

If they did that, then managers could only be sacked during the transfer window.

If they did that, then managers could only be sacked during the transfer window. Exactly - force managers like Mr Bean to show a bit of loyalty and on the other side stop rich owners sacking managers at will or poaching good managers away anytime they feel like it. Look at us when first Mr Bean walked out (poached), then we hire and fire Critchley before appointing Ainsworth. True that if we had not been able to sack Ainsworth we would be in the First Division now although we probably could have dropped him to the reserves and hired Marti above him. Treat managers the same as players. Plus it should make owners think a bit more carefully in their appointments instead of taking the easy route of "fans favourites" to keep the fans happy for a short while. Apart from cases such as ours and the ridiculous goings on at places like Brum and Sunderland many managerial changes now seem to gravitate to either the start of transfer windows or international breaks so not a great difference. Managers are just as important if not more important than players so why not apply the same rules? Of course it will never happen and money will continue to talk. So if Sunderland want Marti make them pay for him. He is currently worth more to us than any of our players imo so why should anyone get him for a comparatively small bit of "compensation" instead of a transfer fee that could include add ons. For example if they get him and get promoted we get an extra 10million - peanuts compared to what they would get from a season in the PL.

The reality is though that managers being sought after when in employment is far less frequent than them being sacked. So most clubs looking to appoint look to who is available and those who have previously failed get rehired. I think that having built in valuations for managers works the best. We did well from the Beale clause and valuation, and Marti’s clause seems to be a stumbling block for Sunderland so far.

Something is not right in the football world (understatement)
ex Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi left at the end of the season to take over at Marseille - and Brighton now get 6million euro "compensation" for letting him sign there.
Meanwhile click bait talks of Sunderland not wanting to pay a "6 figure fee" for Marti. Try 5 million for Marti Sunderland or take a hike.
So the rich get richer and ........

Silence on the transfer front is much as expected.
The Silence that I am starting to worry about is Sunderland. Having announced they were going to announce their new man imminently 10 days or so ago all the click bait and rumours have stopped other than about not liking to have to pay compensation. Meanwhile nothing from Nourry to say Marti is staying. Could a deal be under negotiation in the background?
