Dykes misses Euros
Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes will miss Euro 2024 after sustaining a training ground injury on Friday. The 28-year-old has netted nine times in 36 caps and played in all eight Euro qualifiers, starting five and scoring once. Scotland open the tournament against hosts Germany on 14 June. Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland are the only other centre-forwards in Steve Clarke's squad. "All the boys are gutted for Lyndon, it's just a freak thing to happen," midfielder Ryan Christie told BBC Scotland a few hours prior to confirmation of Dykes' enforced withdrawal. "We've had a few injuries already, so it's frustrating. "He's been off for a while with the Championship [finishing on 4 May] and I know how hard he worked on his weeks off to prepare for this tournament. "It's just one of those things. There's not much we can say to him at this point. We're just trying to get behind him and I'm sure he'll be supporting on. "It adds another reason for us to be desperate to do well for him and the rest of the country."

Silence on this injury makes me think it is long term - maybe a see or ankle and season long absence. It would make sense to keep it quiet as if we announce he is out long term the price asked for anyone we try to buy will increase as. the seller knows we are desperate.

Having said all that I'd like to know if it's a season long injury or something less sinister and I'm sure most fans would like to as well

But in the new world we are not allowed to know such things. Even Ainsworth did not allow injury news to be shared as it gave the opposition an advantage. N.B. they already had a big advantage with Ainsworth's tactics anyway.

good news 👍 'Devastated' Dykes was close to recovery for Euros Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes says he has been left "devastated" by the ankle ligament injury that has ruled him out of the Euro 2024 finals - and revealed how close he was to recovering in time. The Queens Park Rangers 28-year-old was injured during training nine days ago and told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound that "it wasn't a crazy one but just annoying enough to miss the tournament". "It's been really tough for me and I tried my best to make it, but I went to see the QPR medical team and they ruled me out and that was that," he said. Dykes said he and his team-mates initially thought his injury was even more serious. "No-one was near me and it was off a cross and I sort of lunged and my studs got caught in the grass," he recalled. "My body kept going forward and my leg just stopped, so at first we were very worried about my knee because it was a very awkward fall. "A few of us, myself included, we heard a cracking sound, which is not pleasant." Dykes at first focused on his knee, but he then tried to put weight on his leg in the dressing room and "could feel the pain down near my ankle". "It wasn't very pleasant and very unfortunate," he said. "We were worried about my knee and you would be out for a long time, so I took the positive out of it. "I've had my wife and kids around me, looking after me. It's been tough, but I've dealt with it and I just want to support the boys as much as I can." To that end, Dykes has come to an agreement with his club that he can continue his rehabilitation while joining his Scotland team-mates at their training camp in Germany. "Because it was so close, I want to go out with the boys and I've got that option to be with them and be around," he said while praising his international colleagues for their support in his own hour of need. "I want to be out there and not dwelling on the injury. Maybe I can give a bit around the backroom." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cv22rdk8x75o
