Thought we should have a new thread for this as the rumours are already hitting the web.
Latest this morning is that Celtic want Begovic (out of contract in the summer) to replace Joe Hart but Marti may want to keep him for his experience and influence in the dressing room.
Sunderland want Willock
We want a 19 year old Celtic midfielder who has played this season on loan at Fleetwood - who were relegated
Sorting out the click bait from fact will be the challenge especially as I expect our new CEO and Marti will be operating under the radar and not naming names until they are signed.

Just found this on the web, not sure how accurate it is as it shows JCS as contract expired , but give us something to discuss as the rumours start to circulate.
Contract end Age ETV Goalkeepers Jordan Archer 30 Jun 24 31 €80K Asmir Begovic 30 Jun 24 36 €0.9M Joe Walsh 16 Jan 24 22 €0.1M

Midfielders J. Hodge On Loan Jack Colback 30 Jun 25 34 €1.1M Ziyad Larkeche 30 Jun 26 21 €0.4M Isaac Hayden On Loan Sam Field 25 €2.9M E. Dixon-Bonner 30 Jun 24 23 €0.2M Albert Adomah 30 Jun 24 36 €0.2M Ilias Chair 30 Jun 25 26 €3.1M Lucas Andersen 29 €0.5M

What worries me is that we could loose all of our current keepers and there are a couple of key players that are out of contract that we could do with tying down sooner rather than later. I hope we can get the in/outs done early doors.

There are some obvious mistakes in that list eg Smyth our of contract since 2021 ?
If I ruled the world the first step that I would take is to take the full team list and divide the names in 4 groups.
The first group being those who are the core players of the first team who we want/need to retain - regardless of contract status including any existing loans we want to sign permanently
The second group being "fringe" players who are not going to be first choices but wanted for the squad and either playing as injury or suspension cover or coming off the bench
The third group being players who are not part of future plans but still under contract
The fourth group being players who are not part of future plans and are out of contract
Second step would be to release the group 4 out of contract players asap to give them the chance to find another club and get their wages off the books so we know how much cash has been freed up . Also our FFP situation will be better next season as our 21 million loss of 3 years ago rolls out of the calculation.
Third step take group 3 and either loan out / pay off / sell / tell them to find a new club
At that point take the Group 1 and 2 players and address their contracts asap so we know what we have left.
At that point we know what we have left as the wanted squad, how much cash we have, Marti's wanted list and then start buying /signing what we need within budget.
I am sure that process has been under way for a while but can now be firmed up as we know we will be in the Championship.
I think Kakay Archer and sadly Albert will be the first to be put in Group 4 but past that I have my ideas of what may happen but will wait and see for now. Some who we want to stay may leave and we will have to cope with that if it happens but the only real problem in my mind is Taylor Richards as I have no idea what is happening to him and am not sure that I can trust the recurring injury comments.
Another interesting summer of speculation and rumours to come.

Try this one: Isaac Hayden Defensive Midfield May 31, 2024 - Jimmy Dunne Centre-Back Jun 30, 2024 club option 1 year Chris Willock Left Winger Jun 30, 2024 - Joe Hodge Defensive Midfield May 31, 2024 - Sinclair Armstrong Centre-Forward Jun 30, 2024 club option 1 year Osman Kakay Right-Back Jun 30, 2024 - Elijah Dixon-Bonner Central Midfield Jun 30, 2024 - Asmir Begovic Goalkeeper Jun 30, 2024 - Jordan Archer Goalkeeper Jun 30, 2024 - Albert Adomah Right Winger Jun 30, 2024 - Aaron Drewe Centre-Back Jun 30, 2024 - Joe Walsh Goalkeeper Jun 30, 2024 -
For me: Take up options on Dunne and Armstrong (no brainers) Release Drewe, Kakay, Archer Albert we know is going Offer Willock a new contract but not at any price Offer new contracts to Dixon-Bonner and Walsh Sign Hayden if we can Begovic?

Agree with above although not sure about Hayden unless he takes a very large pay cut or Newcastle payoff, similar to what Cook did last year.
I like Dixon Bonner but his game time was reduced following the January signings. But with no Hodge and Hayden, he could have more too play for next season so we should offer a new deal.

As Marti said in an interview this weekend we need to make some accurate decisions this summer and not repeat mistakes of the past and we need to improve. That to me means quality rather than quantity among other things.
I think he will be making some tough decisions about our fringe players that we hope "may come good" and players who are not committed.
I think he will be looking outside for players he knows or who have been fully vetted to strengthen rather than take a bet on players who have not lived up to the reputation but may come good at a new club (us). Decent players like Andersen who are pretty unknown in the UK are around - just a question of picking up the right ones (I said innocently). Our FFP situation should be better so he may get a couple of million war chest to sign a couple and of course if we did get more Eze money all the better but we should not waste time and bank on that.
Hayden is trying to do a deal with Newcastle so he can stay with us. Dixon-Bonner fits the "may come good" category to me so if we sign an improvement he will on his way. Marti almost certainly knows what he wants and maybe even a few names he wants but I do not expect any news or leaks from etc club until deals are signed.

The72 headline that Willock has been released - but the article goes on to say he may stay.
Apart from that they just list the out of contracts who we all expect to leave and the ones we want to keep. If I didn't know better The72 are just rehashing what we have in this thread .
Not worth posting the link or reading it.

Agreed - If he wanted to stay and was fully committed and within our wage structure I would like him to stay. However I think he will go for the money and maybe to Sunderland to be closer to his brother as they are supposed to have a close relationship. Both Norwich and Sunderland have shown recently that they do not tolerate under performers so he would need to get stuck in. I think he has shown glimpses this season that he still has the ability, but also at times a bad temperament appearing totally disinterested or unwilling to put in the effort needed. I think he may have shot himself in the foot with that along with his injury problems which seemed to drag on too long to be true. I cannot see any PL club going near him and his value even in the Championship is not what it was. However I can imagine wherever he ends up if he gets his attitude right he could set the Championship alight in the right team but always with a doubt of how long it will last. The only way I can see him staying with us is if Marti convinces him that he is key to our pushing towards the top but it is clear Marti, rightly, takes a squad approach and unlikely to guarantee any player a starting spot. If he goes I wish him well but suspect it may not work out as well as he may imagine.

I think current management have their heads screwed on properly and do not expect they will waste any money we have/get. Eze man of the match and tore Man U to pieces last night - can only draw attention from more clubs and a European Cup call up for England would help ......

Why we need the Eze money.
Stats just released show the average home attendance of every club in the Championship for the 2023/24 season.
We did better than expected with an average of over 16,600 but still very close to the bottom of the attendance table. However the revealing figures show that 17 clubs had average home attendances larger than the capacity of Loftus Road, including a number of the bigger clubs averaging more than twice our capacity. What hope do we have to compete with that financially. Even if we are top of the football table all season with capacity crowds we will still be way behind many others in gate receipts and match day income and less attractive for sponsorship.
Only bright spot is that we averaged more than Millwall.

Of course, the downside of that being that with so many televised games next season, we will be kicking off at even more crazy times and days of the week.

So, 131 Championship players who are out of contract this Summer. Obviously, not the complete list, several of ours are not listed. But some interesting names, albeit ageing names. I looked straight at the strikers, perhaps Tyrese Campbell, the pick of a dodgy bunch - but he has had 8 seasons at Stoke with several lengthy injury spells.

Wed. nufcfeed.com/who-knows-newcastle-loanee-leaves-the-door-open-after-posting-emotional-goodbye-message-503513But the player holds all the cards. He signed a 4 year contract at said to be between £45k and £50k per week. He has 2 years still to runs on the contract. So he can expect £5m in wages for sitting on his backside, should he wish. Clubs like QPR can only afford about half of those wages, at best, so for Hayden to join us (or Sheffield Wednesday), and for him to not be out of pocket, he is looking for a £2.5m payoff from his parent club. He has a market value of between £2.5m and £3m, so they would have to write half of the value off their balance sheet. So, for Newcastle to release him from his contract would cost them circa £4m hit to their P&L. It must be a crazy negotiation, like nothing I negotiated in my time as a negotiator LOL

Statements from the player about how great life has been at QPR and wanting to stay - but at those wages no way. Double speak statements about going to Newcastle to negotiate a deal which at one point sounded like he would buy out his contract so he could play regular football but again not likely at those numbers. Newcastle are not so well positioned with their FFP so will want to get his wages off their book but with his market value they could put him up for sale at half price and still do better than releasing him free or paying him off - or he could be awkward and run down his contract -45k a week for sitting on the bench or with the development squad - good job if you can get it. As much as I would like him to stay from a football perspective this all leaves me with a bad gut feeling. I still remember Jose Boswinga and co. Meanwhile on the out of contract list a few interesting names - looked at the keepers that range from the young inexperienced (many as well stick with Walsh) to Alex McCarthy - potential experienced Begovic replacement but I think I would stick with Begonias of the 2.

www.londonworld.com/sport/football/qpr/qpr-slap-ps7m-price-tag-on-quality-star-amid-wolves-stoke-city-and-celtic-transfer-interest-4619536Amazing how it all works nowadays - clickbait and all. So some journo in Stoke decides that Stoke need a new left sided centre back and sees that Clarke-Salter is being touted - initially for Celtic. The story appears that Stoke are interested in signing him, and he states that he is likely to cost £5m-£7m. He doesn't bother to cover that the reason that Jake is likely to move on is that he is ambitious and keen to rise up in ranking and wages. Does Stoke get anywhere near that ambition for him? He also doesn't bother covering that Stoke is highly unlikely to have that sort of money to buy him. So next story from another journo, this time in London states that QPR has slapped a £5m - £7m price tag on JCS. No problem with that valuation, but has it really come from QPR? There is of course a fair chance that the JCS stories are all being fuelled by QPR, to set out the 'put up or shut up' so that business can be concluded early, and we are busy generating interest....but in the end, you come back to Stoke really? Would he move his family from South London to Stoke to further his career? Not even good clickbait IMHO.

And so it begins. The infamous The72 reporting QPR saying they are confident of signing Hayden on a free - don't believe we are saying anything apart from released players Plus of course Marti - same source say Hull want him others say he is shortlisted but depending on where you read Hull's shortlist is at least 10 names long. Coventry's Robins also mentioned but anyone going to that lot needs their head examined. Let in a goal and you are fired. Brum mark II. I think a Rooney /Ainsworth partnership would be a great way forward for Hull
