Oh dear that’s very sad indeed, one of the reasons I followed the hoops .

Today we lost everyone’s hero.
The finest player to ever wear the blue and white hoops, bar none.
Now forever in your prime tearing down the wing, terrorising defenders and scoring goals no one else ever could.

I have so many great memories of watching Stan Bowles when I was a kid. He is by far the greatest ever player to wear an Rs shirt. Extremely skilled and a great entertainer, who deliberately used to delight the crowd with his trickery on the ball. He was too much of a maverick to fit long-term into the England team, but the fault for that lay with England, he was certainly skilled enough - just watch some of his goals today on YouTube.
I also had the pleasure of bumping into him a couple of times in later life. He was a true gentleman, who told entertaining stories, including about how he used to sneak out of the stadium via South Africa Road in his kit before a game for a sneaky half in the Springbok (now Queens)!
As far as I know, he never / rarely accepted free drinks from fans as he said he felt that was wrong. The last time I had the privilege of speaking to him was when I saw him at a party hosted by Loaded magazine. I went up and introduced myself and during our conversation I asked him (in a polite way) if he had any regrets, referring to the all the stories about gambling etc.
He replied: “Why should I have any regrets, I’ve had a great life and I have a beautiful family who I love.”
RIP Stan, footballer, father … and QPR legend.

To me, the best player I have ever had the privilege to watch. The best footballer ever to grace the hoops. Stan, you will always be my footballing idol. I was QPR due to generations of my family being QPR / Paddington born and bred. But Stan, you made all that worthwhile. You gave me the best days ever at Loftus Road. Sadly, I could never shake it off even when the football deteriorated - thank goodness we have the video archive for those too young to have seen him live. RIP Stanley!

Heartbreaking News. Stan was a footballer, an entertainer and a free spirit whom had a weird relationship with the Football. He'd conjure up some magical idea and the football did it. How he managed to bend a ball as good as he did on occasions, was a gift from God himself. He loved the crowds and the crowds love/loved him. One of very few QPR player who can rightly wear the badge of honour as a "True Legend."

Too young to fully appreciate him, but watched plenty of highlights today on YouTube. What a glorious time that must have been.
Here in the States, when someone of that importance to a team passes, the team wears the initials on their uniforms for the season. Do you all do that as well across the pond? It would be cool if that happened.

One of the QPR all time greats. Very sad news.
Obviously I have many wonderful memories of his playing days but the one thing that really stood out for me was when he turned up at long time supporter Paul Gooch's funeral at Mortlake cemetery a few years back. A real noble gesture on his part
