AMIT Bhatia has stepped down as QPR chairman, with Lee Hoos assuming the position alongside his current duties as CEO. Bhatia, who has been involved with the club for more than 16 seasons, since 2007 – initially as vice chairman and subsequently as chairman for the past five years – will remain on the board alongside the club’s other shareholders and his position in this respect is unchanged.
As an affirmation of their commitment, the Bhatia family have entered into an additional three-year commercial agreement which will see the South Africa Road Stand renamed The Bhatia Stand.
Amit said: “While the decision to step down as chairman was always going to be a difficult one and has been made with a very heavy heart, it is made with the best interests of the football club in mind.
“I wanted to wait for the arrival of our new head coach to take place first, and to ensure it was a process that could be conducted as smoothly as possible.
“I would like to use this moment to thank Gareth Ainsworth for all his best endeavours with the club. He is a fantastic man.
“Equally, I now wish Martí Cifuentes the very best of luck following his arrival.
“Being chairman of QPR is a role I have held and served with immense pride.
“However, I fully recognise the responsibility of the position and the importance of a greater presence, not only at matches but also, where possible, on a day-to-day basis.
“Due to ever-increasing responsibilities and commitments on my time, it is now proving challenging for me to dedicate as much time to this position as is required and deserved.
“Chairmanship duties will now be taken on by Lee, alongside his role as CEO, whose regular presence at the club is vital as we look to build for a better future for our fantastic supporters.
“Lee is an incredibly dedicated individual who works tirelessly and I am personally delighted he has accepted the position.

“QPR is so special to my entire family and we are hugely honoured to work with the club for the renaming of the South Africa Road Stand.
“Sponsorships are an important revenue stream for all football clubs and this partnership allows us as a family to contribute further to the club.
“I thank our fans for their continued support.”
Hoos, who joined the club as CEO in 2015, added: “It is truly an honour that the board have asked me to assume the role of chairman of the board.
“I have always had direct accountability to the board, which will of course continue notwithstanding my appointment as chairman. Other than chairing board meetings, the governance of the club will remain unchanged.
“It will mean that the position of chairman now has a more visible presence – something Amit has wanted to commit to, but has found increasingly difficult to do.”

To my QPR family, a few parting words as I step down as Chairman to express my sincerest thanks to you for your support of me through the last 16 seasons.
Suffice to say, It’s been the ride of a lifetime. We have shared many forever memories together. I was a young man of 27 when I became an owner, and QPR has been an integral part of who I am every week and weekend since. It’s now the same for my children and my family, we all bleed blue and white hoops.
It has been the privilege of my lifetime to be involved with and lead QPR as chairman, a responsibility I have always cherished and worn with great pride. I have always known unwaveringly, that this is your football club, and that I am merely a custodian of its legacy for a period of time. That responsibility has always guided me to do my very best, within my ability to do so.
Before the start of last season I felt that we were in the strongest position we had been in for many years, and that perhaps now was our time. It’s hard to believe we sat at the top of the table a mere 12 months ago. What has happened over the past 12 months is as confusing as it is unimaginable. I haven’t said much recently, frankly because I really couldn’t explain it or didn’t know what to say. The unprecedented slide we’ve suffered has necessitated multiple changes, decisions that I regret have not proved successful.
As I step down, I wish circumstances were different. It is undeniable that we have made a poor start to the season. However, I remain steadfast in my belief that we have more than enough quality in our squad to turn this season around. The recent appointment of Marti is a very exciting one, and I hope it brings with it a change in both our fortune and form.
Thank you again for supporting me, and for your continued support of this amazing football club that needs you now more than ever. Though I'm stepping down as Chairman, I remain a devoted fan and shareholder, as do my family. We will continue to do whatever we can to continue to support the club.
Sincerely Amit Bhatia

Interesting the family still keeping the shares and still remaining on board, this I suppose is good. Seem to have tried his best , the worst thing they did in the last year was to appease fans with Ainsworth signing….. Looks like we will be stuck with Hoos for another decade shame, would like to have seen him gone

My take on this from financial perspective is that renaming ground and now one stand has probably stopped us breaking FFP rules again. A points deduction and transfer embargo would almost certainly have confirmed relegation and the club simply can’t let that happen. The new coach needs to be given the chance to player deal in January, somehow, and stay up through onfield performances.

The new coach needs to be given the chance to player deal in January, somehow, and stay up through onfield performances. Yep - that is my take on it as well. The plan was to sell someone last Summer - but there was little interest. Chair did his best to impress Leicester on Saturday, but it hard to see any cash coming in on player sales in january - and we can hardly afford to lose them anyway. The new head coach would have been given some assurances - he is not coming here to set records of the wrong kind. But if the stadium deal is £400k p.a., it is hard to see the training ground and SAR stand being worth much - probably about £750k for the three - it all has to be at market value - no doubt this has been market tested through an agency. Expect more fringe deals: e.g. In yet another surprise at QPR today, new chairman, CEO, Director of Football and all time QPR saviour, has announced that he himself will be playing centre forward at Rotherham. His shirt number will be number 69 and will be sponsored by 'trustastriker.com', a company recently registered by Ruben.
