Rumours abound that Archer dislocated his shoulder with the last penalty save. Nothing confirmed by the club as yet. Barnes is out on loan - we may have gone from 4 keepers to just one for WBA

Barnes is out on loan - we may have gone from 4 keepers to just one for WBA Seems to be more than a rumour from reports - he spent a long time being treated on the field before being carted off to hospital. He must be hopping mad - waited all season for a few games and then this. Reports on Walsh are good and he has something about the Phil Parkes to me - and a similar age to when Phil started playing for us so maybe we will give him a go I think we can ask to loan an emergency keeper for a month if we are down to one . If his country were decent they would send Dieng back but no hope there me thinks. However there are quite a few good keepers bench warming at the moment who I would not mind seeing for the next few weeks - if there clubs will let them out. With three at the AFCON, likely Archer out and 2 long term injuries plus what happened to Moses? We are getting down to the point with a couple of new Covid cases and injuries we are reaching the point where we would have to postpone matches again. We are getting down to the bare bones (no pun intended Archer)

Starting to get a bit worried now.

Maybe we can lure Rob Green out of retirement for the WBA match

Tricky to say which of those 4 would best fit. 3 have the experience while a one is fresher but maybe looking for a longer term commitment.
The factors we do not know are how long will Archer be out - it looked bad so he might not be back before Dieng returns. Dieng could still be snapped up in this window or the summer so is it worth taking Westwood (if can afford him) on a longer term basis although I doubt he or Dieng would be happy to spend half of the rest of this season on the bench. We all know Archer is injured so it would be "nice" if the club said something about what he has done. Maybe they want to keep it quiet until we find a solution.
I would also be careful with Newcastle rumoured be looking at Dickie and Dykes. Would we want to get drawn into some sort of swap deal just for temporary cover and it would be unlikely to happen this week.? Personally I cannot see Newcastle going for either of our 2 as they have the money to go for some big names but Howe does have a reputation of developing people through.
The deciding factor could be timing, if we want someone before the WBA game. The other issue is the 2 club rule so anyone looking for a longer term deal may be reluctant to join us so the older 3, especially the out of contract man, could be an option. I do not rate Westwood though.
Of course we could always stick our necks out and play Walsh, maybe recalling Barnes to be a sub but I think Barnes is probably a fixed term deal. Plus we just signed Harry Halwax for the under 23's (I've never heard of him either but he is ex Derby County and 19 years old.) so maybe Walsh plays with Halwax on the bench.
In other words I do not have a clue. The backroom boys have their work cut out in this window now.

I watch a lot of Prem matches and keeper injuries happen with the hard goalposts. Maybe they should wear shoulder pads like they do in the NFL.

So it seems to be Marshall from Derby either on a short term contract to the end of season or loan to end of the season when his Derby contract runs out.
Implies to me that Archer could be a long term absence and on Dieng's return Marshall will drop to the bench. Sensible for him as he is finished at Derby, sensible for Derby to get his wages off their books and sensible for us to get cover to the end of season with out long term commitment.
He has been a good keeper, maybe a bit past his best now but keepers do last longer than outfield players - unless they hurt themselves saving penalties. Probably the best option given the urgency of the situation but may kill off the chance of another potential deal financially. If it keeps us in the play-off hunt I'm happy with it.

We are set to sign Marshall from Derby County a veteran. Is it official?

Really like this signing. Really good goalie with tons of experience and hopefully plenty left in the tank.

I don't know much about this keeper but all reports say its a good signing especially on a free.

As I posted earlier I think he is a good keeper and I think he is the best we could do in the time frame and budget. We wrapped this up pretty quickly which makes me think we were already working on a signing to cover Seny's absence and possible transfer even before Archer was injured.
Next priority is cover for Chair for the same reasons.

Marshall was in the press that he wanted out of Derby this window to end his hell as third choice keeper. My one concern is that Rooney seems to know what he is doing, and neither of the two keepers in front of Marshall are very impressive. Derby are back filling with Fielding it seems, so they have hardly done it for financial gain - no fee was involved and no saving on headcount. Would not be surprised to see Walsh get a run out in the cup if Seny not back - and that seems unlikely.
