In all seriousness, are most players not vaccinated at this point?

In all seriousness, are most players not vaccinated at this point? Vaccinations don't mean you can't get it. If they're being tested regularly, it's going to get picked up whether symptoms show or not.

But if vaccinated, the odds of you getting it are slim (though it still happens) and the odds of you dying from it is practically nil. I would think this is like any other workplace that has brought the employees back to a “normal” work environment. I personally have been back to my workplace, unmasked, for months now with not the first Covid issue. We are all vaccinated. And yes, there is a hair over 300 of us and we come in contact with at least half of them daily. Now, it’s totally understandable if there are multiple players who aren’t vaccinated and they are trying to protect them. I just assumed that this would have been taken care of by this point. Better safe than sorry, though.

Better safe than sorry, though. The vaccine doesn't stop you getting it, it reduces the risk of serious illness or death. I you're vaccinated and come into contact with someone who has covid, there's a high chance that you will test positive even if there is only a very small chance of becoming ill.

That’s not my point. Once vaccinated, even if you do contract it, it is no different than a mild cold, and that’s if you even notice you have it. Last I check we haven’t shut things down or canceled work for the common cold. But as I said, if this is to protect players who have yet to get vaccinated, then it’s understandable. If all are vaccinated, and pre-vaccination protocols are still being used, then that is a head scratcher to me.

The vaccine does not stop transmission. If you are tested positive then of course it’s required to self isolate and in the case of a sports team training without social distancing then the team must self isolate. That’s the only way to ensure that branch of infection is cut off and doesn’t spread to every player, their friends, families and anyone they come into contact with.
Even the best vaccine has 90% efficacy. If the vaccine is ineffective then the mortality still sits around 2-4% depending on age, existing conditions etc.
We are told to expect up to 100k cases a day. At 90% efficacy that’s 10k where the vaccine does not do it’s job. A 2% mortality rate on 10k is 200 deaths a day.
What’s more, mutations occur at transmission and who knows if a new variant might have increased ability to overcome the vaccine.
In summary, this isn’t over, the vaccines are great but are not a silver bullet so we cannot wilfully let infections run unchecked . I think we are going to see more disruptions to games now most safety protocols are being removed .

Who knows what the correct approach is? I sure don’t.
