Nerve wracking, frustrating in true English style but we got through albeit by a rebounded penalty which was never a pen anyway in my book. We were by far the better team but oh was it such hard work! Watching the previous semi restored my faith in football, a game of great skill from both sides, end to end stuff with very little of that negative sideways, backwards passing that plagues today’s modern game.
I really think that Italy may have far too much guile for us and may revert to the old Italy and bore the pants of us. Hope I’m wrong and we see a game as good as their semi, but I doubt it

Not being a great supporter of this event even taking place this year I get increasingly wound up with the continual "coming home" chants and comments. So we won a World Cup in 1966 and have not played in a final since. So why is it "coming home" - I can think of several countries who have a far better claim that football would be coming home to them , Brazil for example.
Apart from that England struggled through against Denmark - 2 fairly average teams with massive hype from the UK press. We won through what some are calling a soft penalty. Even if it was soft in the giving it was even softer with Kanes feeble effort of a penalty - too soft too close to the keeper and extremely lucky that teh keeper spilled it when 9 times out of 10 he would have held on to the shot.
Add in Grealish who many say is our most creative midfielder, brought on for 20 minutes once again to try to rescue a win then substituted for a defender as soon as we took the lead.
Italy will be a step too far and if they score first you may as well switch the TV off.

If it was QPR getting promoted or England winning the euros, I know which one I would prefer He’s coming home he’s coming home, Johansens coming home.

Great atmosphere last night at Wembley...but it didn't reach the euphoric celebrations when Bobby scored in the PL final.
Just secured my ticket for the Final :-)

Its coming home because this is where the sport was born. Not strictly correct. The game was first played in China as part of military training. Just that the FA was formed and the first to publish a full set of written rules. Either way my point is that England do not own the game and winning a cup does not make England the owner of a worldwide sport. No different to the World Series in baseball played in the US. How can it be the World Series when only North American teams can play in it?

I hope the fan with the green Lazer is caught and put inside for a year or so. Agree plus if they have video evidence of the laser point hitting the keeper or goal mouth during the taking of the penalty England should be disqualified and let Denmark play Italy. These things are dangerous in the wrong hands and it is a criminal offence to use them in many countries. Ask the pilots who have been temporarily blinded while trying to land a plane at Heathrow.

And The World Series is so named because it was sponsored by The World newspaper and the name just stuck.

If England beat Italy; it will be a great slogan to remember (regardless of the accuracy) - although I myself have never used it once as a tag line.
If we lose to Italy...Well say no more>

England may and could beat Italy but I don't think they will
I have a horrible feeling that the only thing that is coming home is the Virus. I hope I am wrong here.

Well it’s gone to Rome and frankly they deserved it. Can’t honestly remember their keeper having to make a save throughout the whole match where Pickford was outstanding tonight. Penalties? Deja vu, Shocking decision to let a young lad take the deciding pen.

I have been watching World Cups and Euros since the late 1950's and in the end it is the team with the most SKILL that wins the trophy.
On the night in the first half England had the Power and Drive and Press but Italy's BALL SKILLS were superior and it really showed after half time. Everybody back and booting the ball up field to no one in particular was never going to work. Sigh sadly aspects of philistine football remain in our DNA. We were fortunate it went to a penalty shoot out.
Since 1966 it was ever thus

Well our luck deserted us, but we got what we deserved. Psychology plays a massive part in any sport. Scoring so early meant that we ditched all thoughts of high press or attack. We allowed the Italians to grow in confidence and belief. We did not have an out ball to Grealish, who should have come on earlier imho. The goal was coming, and by then we had lost all cohesion. Extra time was pretty even, and uneventful - the Italians seemed to want penalties. I really hate the yob culture of this country though. Laser pens in the eyes of the Dane keeper, booing their anthem, breaking down barricades and storming the stadium without tickets and then racist abuse to our three penalty misses. Makes me ashamed to be a football fan and English. I had not even realized that our 3 misses were exclusively by black players until I heard about the racist abuse this morning. What a world we live in. We are all disappointed, but social media is so damaging in the hands of idiots. But Southgate went from hero to villain over 90 minutes. So unfair. Taking pelters for bringing on his best penalty takers in training. He would have been a mastermind if they had converted them. But for my part, praise goes to the manager, his team and the players for restoring pride in our football (apart from the yobs!). Now for a new season with QPR...

Nothing says it better than the way Southgate instantly went from hero to villain

Southgate was still a hero for me but did get the penalty mix a bit wrong for me. Sending a 19 year old to step up for penalty number 5 was a bit much and if he wanted Rashford and Sancho to take pens at least bring them on 10-15 minutes prior to the end to actually get then a feel of the game. They came on stone cold, first touch of ball was basically to score a pen, again that’s asking a bit much, this has happened quite a lot of the years and I reckon more miss than score when this happens. Not taking anything else from what Gareth Southgate and the squad achieved though, was very good indeed.

It's going to Rome, it's going to Rome, Football's going to Rome Pretty gutless of the "Senior" International's to have kids put in the pressure zone of penalties. I wonder if Rashford will continue with his stutter penalties in future?? The England squad for the most part could form a core group of about 7 of them for the next 10 years.

Now the football dust has started to settle I think it fair to say that probably the best team in the competition won. Only Belgium were anywhere near the same standard. Italy used a mix of experience and younger players and their /player and managerial experience showed in every game I saw them play. For the final, England were out fought and out thought both on and off the pitch and sadly I think Southgate out thought himself with his last second substitutions and choice of penalty takers. He came close to missing making the substitutions at all which may have been a good thing if he had missed them and let Grealish and Sterling The behaviour of so called England fans before, during, after, and subsequently is a national embarrassment which I hope stops England having any chance of hosting a World Cup anytime soon.. The only bad thing about England losing is that after 26 years of hearing the moronic "Coming Home' song we are likely to be subjected to it it for another 26 years. Anyway now the football side of the Euro's are over Turkish Ali will take a short break while the politicians posture and do nothing, and then hand this account he has been using back to "Champion" on August 1st ready for the real stuff in the Championship.
