We were interested in signing James Garner on loan from Manchester United in both of the last transfer windows. He did not get much match time when he and Man.U opted for Watford last Summer, but he has been a big success at Forest when we failed for him in January. Be interested to see how he does today though against Johansen and Field. Presumably, had we signed Garner, one or both of those two would not have joined us. So one to watch today. Funny how things turn out in football.

Only 8 subs - and no Todd Kane. That would suggest either he has picked up an injury in the warm ups or he has fallen out / sulking after his interview comments

Hardly any shots on goalThey have 8. Looks like defensive and offensive weakness.

Forest looked as though they had studied our game, Coventry looked like they had never seen us play. Friday everyone played well, today, several had their poorest game for sometime. I guess that is the Championship though. Not much in it for the first half - bad time to concede, Forest then sat back and waited for errors and we obliged.

Bad game all round. I thought we missed Field too much in midfield ( it was him playing at back to start with - not Ball or am I going mad? ) but most players were below par and in the end we got what we deserved. Forest probably had one of their best games of the season - how much of that was down to us and how much down to them starting to sort things out is debatable.
However we did have a couple of chances that could have changed the picture but did not convert them. One opinion that I have coming to is that Charlie has gone off the boil a bit in recent games, and has missed chances that normally he would put away with his eyes closed. Two theories as to why. First is that he has played a lot of games since he arrived back after a long period of limited game time . Maybe he is just mentally or physically below par. Second is that I think he scores more when he plays in a 2 upfront and is not at his best as a lone striker. The problem I then have is I like the 3-4-2-1 formation with Chair and Willock behind the striker and Field with Johansen strong in central midfield so playing a second striker would lose that formation.
An interesting side thought is that I could list the chances Charlie has missed in recent games and it has gone without comment or certainly without comment on here. Now if Dykes had missed exactly the same chances the keyboard warriors would have been all over him. Funny that!
Glad Dykes put that one away yesterday - shows the sort of thing he can do. If we stick by him he may well be a much improved scorer next season after the experience of his first season in the Championship. Still not confident about Bonne though.

If we stick by him he may well be a much improved scorer next season after the experience of his first season in the Championship. Still not confident about Bonne though. Don't disagree with much of that. Field was being tried at the back in the absence of De Wijs and Cameron having played there for Charlton and WBA. I thought he did ok there, but we missed him in midfield. Ball had a very poor game and was the obvious first hook. He kept giving the ball away - we played like Coventry did on Friday, unable to impose / keep the ball. But as you say, we had chances and I thought we were trying to hang on for half time. Barbet has been much improved of late but had one of his brain farts yesterday. Very quiet about why Kane did not travel, because the more obvious switch was to play Kakay at the back and bring in Kane on RWB. Injured or more to it? Chair was everywhere on Friday but struggled to get involved yesterday. The Chair debate is a curious one - our top scorer, but I would guess that he has had far more shots than anyone else. I would be the first to say 'shoot' rather than trying to walk the ball in the net, but he can be frustrating, bordering on greedy perhaps. But again, as top scorer, perhaps he has earned the right. I agree with your points about Austin - but perhaps he just needs a goal again. His fitness is a concern though. I think Kelman could learn so much from playing with him, and throwing Dykes on to turn a game loses its effectiveness if we have to take Charlie off to do so, because Austin still struggles beyond about 60 minutes. But I still think Dykes could make it, Willock will continue to improve, Chair will hopefully respond to coaching and Field will become an automatic choice for the centre of midfield. But yesterday was one of those days. We would not expect Seny to miss Garner's free kick usually, and that finished the game. So although several players had an off day, to progress, we need to find ways of breaking down teams who make us play in front of them. Forest sat back from the start, allowing us to have the ball in our own half and just waited for mistakes as we became frustrated. We in return were patient in the first half, but once having to go in search of the equaliser, we looked too vulnerable to the counter. But we are developing and that is where we are at the moment. Meanwhile, not the best time to be facing Sheffield Wednesday....
