got the sack as Bristol City's hopes of promotion are disappearing , can't say that I am too bothered about that as I did not like him one bit imo he thought he was a better coach than he actually was and he rubbed up a lot of people the wrong especially when he sent out letters to other clubs about time wasting etc he won't be missed by me that's for sure !!!

I live in Bristol and entirely agree with Kenthoop. Actually I am surprised he wasn't sacked before this.

Does seem to be a bit of an unlikable *rse - BUT, it wasn't such a long time ago that he was being universally touted in the media as one of our best, young, up-and-coming managers, performing miracles at Bristol City.
I suspect he'll get a management job at a fairly decent level before Christmas.

I suspect he'll get a management job at a fairly decent level before Christmas. That's true. Part of me feels like the media opinion is symptomatic of never really looking at Championship clubs with much depth - at least from the bigger outlets. At a casual look, you've got a big city club on the brink of the playoffs, being ran by a young, mouthy manager, and that's worthy of attention. But that doesn't tell the story of his long dry periods, of losing runs that they often struggled to get out of. Reminds me a bit of the media coverage of McCarthy's sacking and the fact that he, as a likeable 'character' always kept them up. True, but it doesn't factor in the long term experience of Ipswich fans paying well above average money to watch turgid football. Always looks better at a glance than it does from the perspective of folk who go week in, week out.

I like the comparison with Ipswich bow.
As a resident, I know of nobody that would have McCarthy anywhere near the club again!I always thought that Bristol Ciry played some reasonable football under Johnson, especially at Loftus Road, but I'm aware that he was not popular with a large number of their supporters.
I think you have to have an association with a club to be really aware of the raprort between owners, managers, players & supporters.

I think you have to have an association with a club to be really aware of the parrort between owners, managers, players & supporters. I think you're right on that - it's not a huge problem but it does grate with me that big sporting outlets who only give a sideways glance at non-Premier League football suddenly start pontificating when there's a sacking and only observe it from a distance. I was certainly someone who's first reaction to the McCarthy sacking was "be careful what you wish for", but it wasn't until I really took a minute to read the Ipswich fans' reaction that I realised that the week-to-week experience of watching his team was so appalling. Likewise with Johnson, I agree that they played some reasonable stuff whenever we happened to play them, but by the same token, most City fans would have predicted that they were only ever weeks away from another massive slump, like the one they're in now. Looks weird dropping a manager when you're 12th, but when you consider their year on year performance and level of investment and the same issues keep popping up, it becomes more understandable. Same mentality that has Sky pundits talking about the Championship being 'the most exciting in the world' when the play-offs roll around and they give it half a look. For most clubs, it's a bloody slog a lot of the time and probably not an opinion shared by people watching the likes of, say, Hull v Reading or Blackburn v Swansea every 3 days in the depths of winter.

John Terry linked with the job.
Probably just lazy journalism though.
