Two great penalties by Ebere Eze.
However I thought the penalty taker was Manning but not sure why I thought this - perhaps he scored one earlier in the season.
Great to get given and score two penalties in one half let alone one game. Anyone know when this last happened for the R’s?

Stolen from Twitter and LFW, but apparently last time we had two in a match was opening game of 2010 v Barnsley (Helguson and Taarabt).
And the last time we had the same player score two pens in a match was Gerry Francis against AEK Athens. The very idea of us playing in Europe has hurt my brain so I'm going to have a lie down.

Thanks Bowranger 🙏 - only 43 years ago 😉 I think I was at the Barnsley game in 2010 My grandparents would have seen Gerry’s brace - and to think Stanley broke the record for goals in Europe without those two pens - I think Stanley and Gerry used to share the penalty duties...

We won the League that year

The other question of course is whether the first penalty should have been retaken given how Eze took it. A different Ref might have ordered that Penalty Video

A different Ref might have ordered that Penalty VideoI must confess that I do not know the details of the rule, but he does not completely stop, he just slows down / adjusts his style. As I said above, the video does show just how close Hugill was when the first pen was taken. He chose to stay back for the second. I would think that encroachment was a decent shout for a retake though.

Eze certainly looks very relaxed at penalties - is he now the designated penalty taker? I thought Manning took one earlier this season?

At least we don't have VAR. Might help us might hurt us. Liverpool manager and Watford manager went bonkers over the w/e.

The law states that you can stutter but not stop. Eze came close to stopping but very slowly continued so there was no infringement.
IF he had stopped, it would be an indirect free kick to Hull & not re-take.
If the 'keeper was alredy on the ground then he had moved off the line p[rior to the kick being taken (and he had), then this is against the laws.
Two penalties taken & scored that complied with the laws of the game, so no problem!

My (probably wrong) understanding from the rules is that you can feint during the run up, such as a stutter, but you cannot do it once you've come to the end of it. So you can slow your run up, but you cannot get to the ball and then pretend to kick it and you cannot come to a complete stop to make the keeper commit.
Eze slows down and stutters his run up, but he crucially doesn't come to a stop or fake hitting the ball. So while the distinctions are pretty weird, as far as the rule goes, he hasn't done anything wrong.
Keeper being off his line and encroachment are both offences...but the sense I get from refs is that they tend to cancel eachother out if the player scores. Why penalise the attacking team?

I think you worded it better than me bow! Haha think you tackled it more succinctly but with the same conclusion! Regardless of the rules, if Eze burying a pen and putting the keeper on his arse is wrong then I don't want to be right.

I wouldn't have expected a man of your youth to be quoting words from Rod Stewart's If Loving You Is Wrong! Perhaps he idn't write it & you know the song from a different artist? I listen to that track quite a lot as Footloose & Fancy Free is one of my favourite albums & I Was Only Joking my favourite all time song!
