2 very inexperienced full backs there, hope that doesn't prove costly.

Oy ve, a player making his debut at right back and left back...we're in for a hiding IMO unless we can keep a lot of possession.

If we're going to try and win; should try and win....Pick our best (with one or two rests...Ingram is fine...)

From the Offie JFH PROUD IN DEFEATPUBLISHED 22:35 21st September 2016 by @qprfc Gaffer upbeat despite 2-1 loss to Sunderland … QPR bow out of EFL Cup to Sunderland JFH assesses 2-1 defeat to Mackems Gaffer pleased with R’s performance at Loftus Road QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was proud in defeat, as Rangers bowed out of the EFL Cup to Premier League Sunderland at Loftus Road. Sandro handed Rangers the lead on the hour with a well-struck shot from the edge of the box, only for Paddy McNair to score twice – on 70 and 80 minutes – to send the visitors through to the fourth round. “I'm proud of my players tonight,” Hasselbaink told www.qpr.co.uk, “It was a much-improved performance. “I don't like losing but if we are to lose to Premier League opposition, that was the way to do it, if you understand what I'm saying. “If we are going to lose, it needs to be like this. With a gritty, hungry, honest and hardworking display. “We showed that we are a good team tonight I thought. I'm proud of how we conducted ourselves. We were almost there tonight and I take a lot of positives out of the game, and not so many negatives.” He added: “Sunderland came with a very strong team and they showed Premier League quality late on. “We knew a couple might run out of steam on 75 minutes and that proved to be the case.” Hasselbaink handed a full debut to left-back Niko Hamalainen, whilst fellow Academy graduate Osman Kakay also started, for only the second time. The R’s gaffer was full of praise for the duo, adding: “We believe in both Osman and Niko and I thought they were magnificent for 75 minutes. “A little bit of tiredness kicked in late on but I couldn't be more proud of them. “They showed tonight that they not only have great potential, but that they can cope when they are called on now. “I am sure the fans are pleased to see two young Academy players come through and show what they can do.” On goalscorer Sandro, who scored his first goal in the competition this season in only his second start, Hasselbaink added: “Sandro showed his quality with his goal. “He's still here and he’s still our player and he is pushing himself for a starting position. “He ran out of steam because he hasn't got enough games under his belt. He is nearing the fitness levels and the intensity we expect. “He did very well. I'm happy with his performance. “I asked him and the rest of the the players to give me selection problems for Saturday and that's what they did tonight.” Next up for QPR is a home fixture against Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday and Hasselbaink added: “Yes, it’s three defeats in a row in all competitions but there needs to be perspective here, because we aren’t panicking. “We are in transition as a club and we are a work in progress. “Our performance tonight showed we aren’t panicking. “We are all working hard to get to where we want to be. We are still improving and we will be competitive, I’ve no doubt about that.” Read more at www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/qpr-jimmy-floyd-hasselbaink-sunderland-efl-cup-3320877.aspx#VQZ48l5d4e3O3aJu.99

Well I went!
For a minute forget the score.
TF wanted a 40,000 stadia..........tickets last night were under £7, it wasn't on TV and despite their position Sunderland are a PL side and included in the attendance figures is a fair number of away fans.
The attendance was 14,000 but I think there was some double counting as the season ticket holders around us weren't there and their seats had been sold.....they'd voted I guess with their wallets. If ST are always counted?
Both sides looked technically average Sandro was probably the one bit of class til he faded and I would certainly keep him in the side.
Ingram saved us 2-3 times in the first half with some excellent saves so I do believe we have the necessary cover in that department. Green and Ceasar it may not be.......perhaps it is potentially better?
The full backs were inexperienced and it showed but would Ned have done any better?
Cousins continued his poor start to the season and looks completely out of sorts. His passes sideways and backwards but too frequently to the opposition.
Lynch and Culker looked OK....although I'm not sure of the quality of the Sunderland forwards.
Washington appears completely out of his depth, my son in law a Peterborough fan had no idea why we paid the sort of money we did for him and I'm starting to think the same. We wondered why JFH only gave him a few minutes each game....perhaps it's because he is not very good.
The rest were average and didn't stand out. The Polish player looks lost and Nasser should never have made the full 90 minutes.
I'm not sure why it was left late to bring on the subs....BFG did very little apart from push and shove, Massimo added a bit of bite and Chery coming on with I just think 9 minutes left seemed an obvious 'far too late substitution'.
That's the opinion from someone that went and the other conclusion I can draw is that both clubs will struggle in their respective leagues.

I went to the game last night and whilst it was better then the shambolic effort last Tuesday it was still far from riveting.
The first half was dull with Sunderland having the better chances and QPR slow to get going (again) and not producing anything much up front to cheer about. We deserved our goal as around that time we upped our tempo and started to threaten. We could have made far more of some good counter attacking positions but either our final ball was poor or we dwelt too long and were dispossessed. I accept that this was a disjointed side and an opportunity to give some fringe players a chance but we looked disjointed and didn't really looked like we had much shape.
I am not going to be too hard on the Academy players but as they tired towards the end the likes of Ndong were finding far too much space. I am struggling with El Khayati, he looks flimsy, I would go as far as saying a bottler and some of his corners were the worst of the worst. A couple were passed along the ground to the near post!!
Washington does work hard and I feel for him a bit as he tries stuff, gets in good positions but it just won't seem to go for him.
I do think had we played Chery, Polter and Luongo and had some more experience at full back in Bidwell and Onouha we could have won that game reasonably comfortably.
I think the team selection cost us that game, still we go again on Saturday.

I agree with you on Sandro 57. I know a player looking for a move to a bigger club is frowned upon but lets get real for a second most people in life in any position will be looking to step up to a bigger role a promotion if you like. If every Championship player eyeing a move to a bigger club was sat on the bench, half the division wouldnt be getting a game on a Saturday. As you state he certainly has struck me as a guy NOT playing with his hands in his pockets in his last two performances, they guy has scored 3 times in 2 games a record that should make Washington blush!! He needs a run in the side as he looks to struggle in the last twenty minutes, which is when we lost the game.
I would play him as he has that capacity to want to drive forward where others seem happy to go backwards or sideways in his role.

As a home team playing high tempo, dont you still find this poor. Lets not get away from the fact Sunderland are a dreadful team this year and that was a very weak Sunderland starting 11 too. We go again Saturday but time running out for Jimmy, looks out of his depth on lots of fronts. He needs a convincing home performance and win. To me I dont see such much of an improvement over Ramseys games at the minute. I fear the worse and if its a Birmingham loss and a stuffing by Fulham the club will move for someone available for sure.

Harr, as MarshBowles pointed out both teams here could struggle in their respective divisions.
Sunderland were poor but most of their top players were unavailable due to injury or suspension and lets face it on recent showings we are poor too.
I actually thought the atmosphere was a bit better and even when Sunderland equalised the fans tried to do their bit to lift the players, unfortunately it didn't have the desired effect.
As a collective we look low on confidence, going forward there is too much delegation with the ball, its all 'after you', no 'after you', when we do have an opportunity to shoot the players body shape just looks wrong or they shoot when they are patently going to be blocked. In defence we dont clear our lines, the ball gets headed up in the air or the keeper parries straight back to an opponent. When we concede a set-peice it really is 'three goes for a pound' syndrome.
