From The 72 the72.co.uk/46229/bristol-city-target-former-qpr-manager/?Bristol City target former QPR managerBY TOM ALLEN ON JAN 26, 2016 Bristol City are targeting former Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock to take over as their new boss, according to a report. Bristol City sacked Steve Cotterill earlier this month with the club in 22nd place in the Championship, two points away from safety. The club have since been searching for a suitable replacement, with former QPR manager Neil Warnock understood to be on the list of potential appointments. Assistant manager John Pemberton and Under-21 boss Wade Elliott are currently in caretaker charge of the club and began well with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough. The team have since lost to West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup and Leeds United. Whoever is appointed by Bristol City will have a tough job on their hands to keep the club in the league, with the team having been in and around the relegation places all season. Speaking after the sacking of Cotterill, Bristol City chairman Keith Dawe said: “The club’s aspiration is to ultimately become a Premier League club and this decision has been made to achieve our overall strategy for growth and player development.” Warnock could be the right man for the job on this part, with the former Crystal Palace boss being known as something of a promotion specialist.

Suppose this confirms reason he wouldnt get the QPR job was fact he was unable to work with LF. Shame as with Nigel Pearson, those two were the clear front runners for the post, getting over 60 % of fans votes.

Rubbish - Warnock has personal reasons to be in the West Country. Bristol would be OK for him, London would not There was conjecture in the press regarding the relationship between Warnock and Ferdinand, see the link below. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3314982/QPR-locked-power-struggle-Les-Ferdinand-Neil-Warnock-Championship-club-decide-new-manager.htmlThis doesnt mean to say it's true or on the other hand, not true - how can we know? Whether it's rubbish or not is in itself conjecture. Message boards eh!

Obviously Bristol is nearer..
But IF Warnock gets the job (or is even pursuing the job) one of the "Warnock didn't want to return to Management" explanations/assertions re Warnock and QPR, will obviously have been proven incorrect.

Warnock would have travelled to mongolia to be Manager of QPR, he loves the Club.
Sadly Neil is a very good friend of Harry Rednapp and Harry would have told Neil exactly what was going on. He never would have taken the job with Les F here IMO.
This is by no means a slating of Les either, he will always be a QPR god, however the position he was given affects us getting Managers without question IMO.
I understand this position is everywhere in football nowadays but that still doesnt mean some certain Managers will tolerate it.
Of course Managers wet behind the ears in terms of experience like Ramsey etc will tolerate.

From the Sc**thorpe Telegraph. Going to Sc**thorpe too?!
New Sc**thorpe United manager: Former Leeds United, Sheffield United & QPR boss Neil Warnock again linked with vacancy at Glanford Park
By david_scun | Posted: January 27, 2016
FORMER Leeds United and Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has again been linked with the vacant Sc**thorpe United manager's job by bookmakers.
Joint-caretaker manager Nick Daws remained the favourite for the job this morning (Wednesday, January 27), according to bookie and Football League sponsor SkyBet, although his odds had drifted from 4/6 to 6/4.
But Warnock, whose list of clubs in a successful managerial career also includes Crystal Palace and QPR, has moved to fourth-favourite, with odds of 7/1.
He had previously been available at 25/1 to take the Glanford Park hotseat and has also been strongly linked with the vacant position at Bristol City, for which bookies make him a 7/4 second-favourite.
Warnock previously told the Sc**thorpe Telegraph he would be interested in taking over at United - but only if the Iron were willing to fly him and his family from his home in Cornwall.
He said: "If I could have a helicopter to Cornwall, I’ll think about it. Otherwise it’s a bit too much of a trek for me I’m afraid!
"I wouldn’t say I’ve given up on management. I had a few weeks at QPR up to December and that has whetted my appetite again, but I don’t know."
Mark Cooper was quoted this morning as a 5/2 second-favourite for the Sc**thorpe job, followed by joint-caretaker manager Andy Dawson, at 6/1.
Warnock was next on the list, followed by Steve Cotterill and Coin Cooper (both 12/1), then Neil Cox (16/1) and Graham Alexander (18/1).

From the Sheffield Star Rotherham United: Former Blades boss Warnock in running for Millers jobPAUL DAVIS 00:00Tuesday 09 February 2016 Neil Warnock has emerged as a potential contender for the Rotherham United hot-seat after the shock sacking of manager Neil Redfearn. Neil Warnock has emerged as a potential contender for the Rotherham United hot-seat after the shock sacking of manager Neil Redfearn. Redfearn became the shortest-serving boss in Millers history when he was relieved of his duties after less than four months yesterday. Former Sheffield United boss Warnock could be interested in the vacancy, initially to the end of the season as Rotherham look to preserve their Championship status. A former Millers player who still has an affinity for the club, he had short spell in temporary charge at QPR earlier this season. Rotherham are already receiving calls from agents, with Crawley Town boss Mark Yates and Paolo Di Canio, who applied for the job before Redfearn weas given it last October, believed to be among those keen. Ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Gary Megson is another name in the frame and ready for his first managerial appointment since leaving the Owls under the regime of Milan Mandric. Another one-time Wednesday manager, Stuart Gray, could be available, although he was overlooked for the role when the Millers opted for Redfearn. After just 21 games in charge, Redfearn paid the price for losing successive matches against relegation rivals Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers. Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart said: “It is with a heavy heart that we’ve parted company with Neil. As we all know, ootball is a results -driven business and, with 16 games to go, our aim has to be to retain our Championship status. “Everyone at the club wishes Neil well with his future career. “Our focus now is 100 per cent behind appointing a manager as soon as possible.” Redfearn’s reign lasted 120 days, seven shorter than that of Dave Cusack in 1988. From skysportsnews. Some truth in this? www.skysports.com/football/news/11688/10161945/neil-warnock-could-become-short-term-rotherham-bossNeil Warnock could become short-term Rotherham bossBy PA Sport Last Updated: 10/02/16 10:30am Neil Warnock is in pole position to become Rotherham's new manager until the end of the season. The former Sheffield United, QPR, Crystal Palace and Leeds manager is set to replace Neil Redfearn at the New York Stadium, with the task of keeping the Millers in the Sky Bet Championship. Warnock, who played for the Millers between 1969 and 1971, has been working as an advisor at QPR, but Press Association Sport understands an appointment in South Yorkshire is on course. The short-term nature of the job is understood to appeal to the 67-year-old, who lives in Cornwall. He will be charged with ensuring Rotherham survive in the second tier, a tough task with 16 games of the season remaining. The Millers are in the relegation zone, three points from safety after back-to-back defeats to fellow strugglers Charlton and Bolton. Those losses cost Redfearn his job just four months and 21 games into a two-and-a-half-year deal, with the Millers board acting decisively in a bid to stave off relegation. Nicky Eaden is currently in caretaker charge of the Millers, less than a week after joining the club as Redfearn's assistant manager. An appointment could happen before Saturday's visit of Birmingham, which opens a gruelling run of fixtures, where they must play sides currently in the top eight in six of their next eight matches.

If he takes it, no better man than Neil to try and keep them up. Big ask with those next 8 fixtures.
However , If I was a MK Dons, Bristol City, Charlton or Bolton fan and heard NW took over Rotherham, I would be very worried indeed.

In fairness I think he would have managed any club short term, hence why he liked this situation, see if he can keep them up and probably gets a nice bonus and a helicopter to travel. Its a big ask as his next 8 games include 6 of the top 8.
I dont doubt for minute though that Neil would for sure have taken the QPR job until the end of the season had Les not been there. Would he have got more points than JFH has so far? Pretty confidently say yes but are we good enough and would we have got enough points to go up anyway? Doubtful. So as much as I like NW guess better we go for a long term solution. Time will tell if the right man or not.

Might be right. The argument against JFH as I understand it as implied by David McIntyre is he won't be sticking around at QPR but will move on to a better club...

Yes but jfh would have to do really well here to get a move to a better club, as he did at burton, challenge for promotion or achieve it next season then who knows.

Am happy with JFH, but would have been happy for Warnock to have been reappointed. You pays your money and takes your choice.
I think JFH is ambitious. Thing is, in order to get the attention of a bigger club, he's going to have to get us promoted and probably survive a year back in the Prem - so not a bad trade off.
It's going to be an interesting 2-3 years at QPR - low spending, bringing in untested, 'raw' talent, and parachute payments disappearing into the sunset...
I wonder if the clubs future is inextricably linked with HS2 redevelopment. If the board don't win that one, we could well 'do a Bolton'.

The board have always said they're in it because of their love for QPR. Their background in steel, cement and transport is ideal for running a football club and would be absolutely useless in developing large tracts of London. Anyway they said they're in it for the long term (my wife, who works in a school thinks a long term is 12 weeks).

I'm with a number of posters here wondering why we couldn't have had the opportunity to have NW working in a handover capacity to JFH.
Whilst there will be the comments about 'who makes the decisions' that is surely up to the owners of the Club to set out the criteria of ownership of team selection.
It's a big step up for JFH and the jury is still very much out if he will make it.
In my humble opinion, having NW assisting JFH to the end of the season would have made a lot of sense.
As always with any new manager we lose our existing team and get whoever JFH had at Burton follows (just like, as we know to our cost with 'Arry and his Merry men and Hughes and his team).
It seems to me that no-one ever thinks of what is in the best interests of QPR, the Club.
'Oh Jimmy wouldn't like working with another more senior, more experienced ex manager"
Get over it, if you can't work this way for 6 months don't apply for the job.
I suspect from the ownership perspective, the Hs2, regeneration of Old Oak Common is of far more interest and QPR is just a means to an end.

Anyway they said they're in it for the long term (my wife, who works in a school thinks a long term is 12 weeks). Getting a bit off thread but given the owners backgrounds and business interests it would be just as easy for them to get involved with the Old Oak regeneration directly without having a football club involved, and definitely without wasting the couple of hundred million of their cash that they have wasted on QPR. In fact the squabble with Car Giant and others over a football ground is more of a hindrance to their potential involvement as any new stadium would be a minor part of the whole program economically.
As they have already converted the clubs debt to equity we would be in a different boat to Bolton if they pull out now - unless they run up the same debt again which is highly unlikely. The only way they can recover their cash is to sell their shares. At the moment who would want to buy QPR for £250million.
If we had a new training ground a decent stadium and crowds watching us playing in the PL it would still be difficult to attract that sort of buyer.
Trust you 57, you almost take the fun out of being a cynic.

Good first point for NW today. First game he makes them hard to beat against a good Birmingham team. They had to play last 12 minutes with 10 men and last couple with 9 men too.
