From the Evening Standard www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/qpr-expected-to-offer-charlie-austin-new-deal-after-striker-confirms-he-is-staying-at-loftus-road-a2924991.html?QPR expected to offer Charlie Austin new deal after striker confirms he is staying at Loftus RoadTOM DUTTON Tuesday 1 September 2015 15:47 BST0 comments QPR striker Charlie Austin has confirmed he will stay at QPR ahead of the new season after late interest from Crystal Palace. The Rangers striker has been linked with various Premier League clubs this summer but none were willing to match the west London club's ÂŁ15million valuation. Newcastle, Everton and Bournemouth were interested in doing a deal for the England international this summer but Palace maintained hope they could lure the forward until the final week of the window, when Austin turned down a move to Selhurst Park. The 26-year-old has already scored four Championship goals this term and appeared to end speculation surrounding his immediate future on Monday, tweeting: "#QPR big season ahead." The former Burnley striker is out of contract at QPR next summer and will have a greater range of options open to him. But Rangers remain hopeful he will commit his long-term future to the club. QPR director of football Les Ferdinand told Standard Sport last month the club will draw up a new deal for Austin if he is still at the club when the transfer window shuts.

No real rush, but I don't think contract negotiations will distract Charlie. He's been playing some of his best football in his career the last month and that is with massive transfer speculation. He is obviously very professional and able to keep the football and business sides separate, unlike a lot of players.

He'd do well to wait.
But, by golly, this midfield and strike force with potentially Fer in it as well must absolutely scare the living daylights out of every single Championship defence now.
Chery, Fer, Phillips and Luongo plus Charlie. Good luck to you stopping that!

You may want to play Doughty or Henry in MF though as only Ale is a ball winner there. I discount Sandra as she will be injured before too long, probably whilst on his way to pick up some milk down the local corner shop.

Thats my home team. Go out and take teams apart. Definitely tinker for away games depending on the side we are playing. I looked at our bench for the Huddersfield game and I thought god we are going back to late 90s when we had our starting 11 which included already the odd make weight and then a bench that struck fear in to ME.

There's a lot of euphoria at the moment and rightly so given what's been going on at the club recently but I still need to keep expectations in check otherwise I can see happening what happened last time we were in the Championship with people claiming we should have walked the league with this team. Many on this board, including myself, have been calling for Ramsey to be given a fair crack at the whip and so far so good but there is a long way to go. He's still quite inexperienced in the role so it will be interesting to see how he copes with things when they're not going so well, especially when we get to the inevitable injury crisis. Now that the window is closed and we know our squad, it looks very good on paper bu it's still relatively new as a team. I still think top half would be a success but I also think that it has the potential to go all the way and, judging from today, the attitude within the club appears to be spot on. When the players start tweeting #promotion, you know they're up for the fight and god knows that's something we haven't seen too much of over the last few years. So now the majority are happy with where the club is at the moment, we can come together, get behind our team and say COME ON YOU Rs! Ok, I'll go take my medication now.

Bite the bullet and release Hoilett and other players that might disrupt.

Charlie is growing into the lone striker role under Ramsey and we do have other strikers as back up, albeit at lower levels of talent. We also have one hell of a midfield that just reeks of goals.

Yeah sure, Birmingham Manager seems to be doing an amazing job compared to the budget he has there. Charlton also might shock a few.(bookies favourite for relegation not.) There will be times when we have some rough results for sure. Hull/Fulham away will give us a tough patch and Brentford/Derby away too. But I think this team will keep picking up results against lower teams at home. Even if we didnt get play offs I wouldnt be that upset. However I would be gutted for say Charlie and others for there loyalty and of course want ro keep them and while we are in Championship, wont forever. Charlie must know his England chances are basically on hold while we are in this Division , even if he has 20 goals by Christmas. Anyhow, really good day . Shame we dont play Forest this weekend .....

He retweeted someone who said he was going to stay until his contract runs out which seems to indicate that this is his intention. You never know though. If we're in a similar position half way through the season to that which we were in in 2010/2011 (preferably without the FA sticking their beaks in this time), then maybe he'd be tempted to put pen to paper. But he does deserve to be playing in the premier league and, given that he'll be 27 this time next year, it should be sooner rather than later.

As I've said previously, that's a bridge to cross if and when we get to it. Today the club gave themselves the very best chance possible of getting straight back to the Prem by keeping hold of all their best players. When the season ended in May none of us on here could have genuinely believed we'd be here after deadline day on a September evening with Green, Neds, Fer, Matty and Charlie still with us and committed to the cause. We'd also have had a hard time believing that deadline day would pass without us being the main attraction on Sky. Thats pretty awesome when you consider what happened today with whats been happening to this club for the last few years. Whether Austin goes in the summer of '16 or stays today has sent a very clear message that this isn't a club where agents and has beens rock up to take the p*ss and grab our money for naff all in return.

If Charlie doesn't sign a new contract we get nothing in a year. Wouldn't we be better getting him to sign a new contract with say a release at ÂŁ10 million to a top ten club. That way we will at least get something if he leaves next year.

Of course but there is nothing the club can do to make him sign especially as, if he doesn't, he is in a much better position next year financially and could almost have his pick of clubs.

Charlie's agent is probably going to advise him not to sign any new contract offered He has all season to sign one, but why would he rush into that when he can sign for anyone he wants next season if he's a free agent? Right now I'm just overjoyed that he's still our player and will be staying all season. Based on what we all genuinely thought would happen a few months back this in itself is far better than any of us really expected. I'm happy to go with that for now. If this team plays to its potential on paper then there's a decent chance that Charlie can get offered a contract to play in the Premier League next season - with QPR. One step at a time. He's here for this season. I'm very happy and satisfied with that.

Now the rubbish starts just when I thought things may quieten down for a couple of weeks. Sky are reproducing a story from the Fulham Chronicle that Charlie wants his salary doubled and a release clause if we do not get promoted, in exchange for him signing a new contract. I sure believe (not) that Charlie or Sir Les has told someone about that. I suppose the media have to keep the Charlie saga hot until January now. GWL and a few more sites saying exactly the same

Out of interest, though, what exactly would you offer him in a new deal that would be different from what you just stated Sky said was rubbish? I ask this not to be contentious but because if I was offering Charlie a new deal - and Dave McIntyre said ages ago that they would offer him a new deal if he didn't get bought in the transfer window - then wouldn't you offer him double his money and a release clause if we don't go up?

Maybe I would offer that depending on what he is on and the impact to wage structure team morale etc. However the story I read was not about what the club might be offering but what Charlie is demanding - and that is a totally different perspective. Even if true if anyone believes that Charlie or his agent or the club has allowed that sort information to pass to the media one day after the transfer window closes they may as well believe EDS _Amy. The rubbish aspect is not whether the contract negotiations are true but that people claim to know they are happening and that they know what Charlie is "demanding" edit PS how many of the Sky and other source reports of all the offers for Charllie and Phillips were true and how many were rubbish. They are in the media business selling copies and website hits so do they care if they report fact or just speculate to generate interest? Fair points mate. Love your quote on EDS Amy, by the way. Every year there seems to be some new joker come on the twitter scene during the transfer window who claims to be ITK and it all ends in tears when most of the crap they spout never materialises. Last year it was some Scottish Paedo, this year its Amy and there all be another one in January.

....and from the Independent www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/football-league/charlie-austin-queens-park-rangers-striker-says-if-the-move-is-not-right-im-not-going-10485131.htmlCharlie Austin: Queens Park Rangers striker says âIf the move is not right, Iâm not goingâAfter hitting 18 goals in the Premier League last season, Charlie Austin was the great non-deal of transfer deadline day, but tells Sam Wallace he preferred another shot at promotion with QPR SAM WALLACE Author Biography CHIEF FOOTBALL CORRESPONDENT Thursday 03 September 2015 On his way home from training on Tuesday morning, deadline day, Charlie Austin took a call from an old friend of his from his non-league days who prefaced his conversation by saying that he had not called to ask the Queens Park Rangers striker whether he was leaving the club, in fact he was not planning to talk about football at all. Austin, 26, mentions it because it was such a relief, having spent most of the summer fielding questions from people asking where his future lay. He made his first senior England squad in June and he got married weeks later but throughout the transfer window the question has been: where next for the man who scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season? The window closed on Tuesday with the surprising outcome that Austin stayed at QPR in the Championship, although not for lack of interest. Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City all pushed hard at various times but when it came to the crunch the move had to be right for player and club. Chatting at a hotel in west London on Wednesday, a day after the window shut, Austin is confident that he made the right decision for the right reasons. âIâm not disappointed,â he said. âItâs a decision that I have taken on my shoulders, with my family and my agent as well. If the move happened, it was going to be a big one but it was something that had to be right. It wasnât something that I was going to rush into. I wanted the club to be established. I didnât want the club to be pushed on me. I spoke to Les [Ferdinand, QPR director of football] and said âLes, if the move is not right then I am not goingâ. But I knew on the other hand that he had to do everything possible to get the best for Queenâs Park Rangers. âI told him that if the move wasnât right for them I would be here until next season and trying my very best to get the club back in the Premier League. I told him that if I was here on 2 September, I would be giving 100 per cent to help drive the club forward to get promotion. That is the goal now.â He is out of contract next summer and the likelihood is that the opportunity will come again to test himself beyond QPR. The question is, what kind of club will he look for then, knowing that this will be the definitive move of his career? âItâs a massive move and I want to be at an established Premier League club,â he says. âOne that is going forward and one that I feel will suit me. I know a lot goes around because of the [4-4-2] way QPR played last year and they will question whether I can play as a one. âIt has come up over the summer so that is another little hurdle you have to negotiate. I just feel that if something comes up and the club is the right one for me to go to, that will be it. The ones that came up this summer were not right for me.â Austin points out for those who might doubt his commitment to QPR that he is the top scorer already in the Championship with four goals in five games. His is a remarkable knack for getting on the end of chances and when we meet he talks about trying to break his personal record from the 2012-13 season when he notched his 20th Championship goal for Burnley on his 17th game on 6 November. Even so, the first game of the season back in the second tier was hard. Austin netted 18 Premier League goals in a beleaguered QPR side last season Austin netted 18 Premier League goals in a beleaguered QPR side last season âI was just thinking, âI want to play in the Premier League nowâ, Austin recalls of the 2-0 defeat away to Charlton Athletic on 8 August. âPhysically I had a stop-start pre-season and I was off it ... but I went back to everyone, spoke to them and it was fine. We played Cardiff, got a draw when we should have won and then went on a run. I am happy now. The blow has been softened by the start QPR have had. We have also kept a great squad that is full of internationals and Premier League players, so we are stronger going forward. âIt would have been easy for me to say to David [Threlfall, his agent] âI want out now, letâs go, letâs get the ball rollingâ. I had to be mentally strong and stick to what I wanted to do. That is the way I had been feeling from when the season started. Iâm at QPR and I feel that I have made the right decision. If I look back on it, nobody can say âYou should have done thisâ. I have done what I wanted to do.â The question is whether, if he had scored those four goals in the Premier League, he would be in Roy Hodgsonâs current England squad instead of, for instance, Leicesterâs Jamie Vardy, another player who came from non-league like Austin. âI suppose that is a question everyone would want to ask me but that would not have been in my thinking if I was moving to the Premier League,â Austin says. âItâs got nothing to do with getting on a plane to France [for Euro 2016]. âWhen he is fit, you have to say Daniel Sturridge gets in the squad. Itâs the same with Danny Welbeck. Harry Kane would have [been in the England squad Austin made in June] had he not been with the Under-21s. I realise that if I had worked hard and had another season like the one I had, I would have had every chance of going to France. But that would never have been my [main] goal. As a striker, you always get [accused of] second-season syndrome. To replicate what I did last year would have been another priority for me. If the reward was [Euro 2016], then great. My main goal would have been trying to score goals for the club I was at.â Sullivan, whose comments about Austin's fitness upset the player Sullivan, whose comments about Austin's fitness upset the player There is also the issue of David Sullivan insinuations about Austinâs fitness, a strange episode in which the West Ham chairman was reckless with his choice of words in an interview given in tandem with his teenage son to a fanzine podcast. Austin says that when he came to listen to the segment about himself and the wild suggestions Sullivan made about a long-standing knee issue, the discussion sounded like âtwo blokes in a pubâ. He was still moved to release a strongly-worded rebuttal. âAs a Premier League footballer or as a Premier League chairman, whatever you say gets written down,â he says. âI know he said it wasnât an attack on me but I am going to be honest â sitting on the other side of the fence, that is definitely what it felt like. The facts he came out with were false. I donât want to go into it but they were false. It did hurt me. It got publicised everywhere. If the West Ham chairman doesnât want to sign me, then fine. But please, donât try to come out and say something else.â As for the knee issue, there is no question that Austin failed a medical at Hull City two years ago. He has had the issue since he was 12 and it has never stopped him playing and training consistently. He has averaged 36 league games alone for the last four seasons and the only problem that led to him missing some matches in 2013-14 was not his knee but a dislocated shoulder. As the window came to a close earlier this week, there was no question of a tantrum or a transfer request from Austin. He has a strong relationship with the QPR chairman, Tony Fernandes, whom he respects greatly. Earlier in his career, after his meteoric rise from Poole Town in the Wessex League Premier, he put in a transfer request at his first pro club Swindon Town in January 2011. It is the one thing in his football life, he says, that he regrets. âEven though I got the move [to Burnley] in the end I do believe I would have got it anyway,â he says. âI turned all the Swindon fans and everyone on me and it was something I didnât like to be honest.â There is no question of that with QPR and a support with whom he said he bonded with âfrom the startâ. Austin, a prolific Championship goalscorer, is staying to try to secure the clubâs third promotion in six seasons, and beyond that, who knows?
