Aston Villa launch £3.5m raid for Swindon pair Tim Sherwood wants to sign Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin from League One club Aston Villa launch £3.5m raid for Swindon pair Swindon Town's Massimo Luongo (left) and Ben Gladwin are targets for Aston Villa Photo: REX From Mesrine to Othello: the latest films on MUBI Online cinema MUBI releases a new film each day, which is then available to stream or download on the site for 30 days Sponsored by MUBI John Percy By John Percy1:01PM BST 25 May 2015 CommentsComment ‎Tim Sherwood has tabled a £3.5million bid for Swindon Town's Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin as he begins his preparations for next season. But Sherwood, the Aston Villa manager, is facing competition from Queens Park Rangers after the relegated London club matched the offer for the highly-rated midfielders.Swindon are holding out for a £4million deal but are resigned to losing the pair after losing the League One play-off final to Preston North End on Sunday. Sherwood has been a long-term admirer of Luongo, the Australian international, after working with him at Tottenham Hotspur's academy but also wants Gladwin to make the move to Villa. Gladwin, also 22, ‎played a key role in Swindon's season and both players are expected to have their futures resolved before the weekend. Villa could be taken over by new owners this summer but Randy Lerner, the current chairman, is adopting a "business as usual" policy before the club is sold. Lerner may have to raise his offer for Luongo and Gladwin, however, with Swindon chairman Lee Power keen to stick to the club's £4m valuation. Villa will face Arsenal in the FA Cup fnal this weekend but Sherwood is mapping out his plans for next season after securing Premier League survival. He is keen to bring in players under the age of 25 and could offload many of his current squad to raise funds. Carles Gil, a £3.2million signing from Valencia in January, Andreas Weimann, Philippe Senderos and Matthew Lowton are all facing uncertain futures. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/11628315/Aston-Villa-launch-3.5m-raid-for-Swindon-pair.html

Mackie is out of contract I think. maybe try to re-sign him. Also Jermaine Beckford is worth looking at again, seems to have found the old Beckford. I like the Look of Jota at Brentford and Harlee Dean looks to be improving.

Total Bs Not going to happen Not good for Austin for it to happen Not going to be in Champ for just one season before bouncing back (Probably) And if we can afford to keep a 15 million pound player...that means we can also sell him and use the 15 million on other players (which I doubt we will) This. Very much this . Can they just stop with this 'We want to keep Austin' nonsense? The whole world knows Austin is going and that the last thing his career needs now that he is an England International is a season in the Championship. Ramsey got interviewed when he got the full time gig and was asked if Austin would leave with his blessing. He said no, he wouldn't, cos he wants him to stay. Wrong answer as far as I'm concerned. Austin served his time and did everything to get us back in the Prem and tried his best to keep us there. We should be gracious enough to accept that he needs and deserves Premier League football, thank him for his service to the club and move him on. Seriously, enough of putting on the big boy pants and acting like the tough guy in the school playground. We got the snot kicked out of us in the Prem, our lunch money was taken away and we were sent back to play with the nursery kids. Time we learned our place now.

QPR hope to land Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin despite Aston Villa offering £3.5m for Swindon Town pair Aston Villa made Monday move to sign Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin But QPR hope to snatch Swindon duo before facing sanctions over FFP Luongo was at Tottenham and has worked with Villa boss Tim Sherwood By SIMON JONES FOR MAILONLINE PUBLISHED: 17:39, 26 May 2015 | UPDATED: 17:39, 26 May 2015 14 shares View comments QPR have moved to beat Aston Villa to the signing of Swindon Town midfield pair Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin. Villa made an offer on Monday in the region of £3.5million for the 22-year-old housemates who have flourished under manager Mark Cooper at the County Ground. QPR had an initial interest in Luongo but are now considered favourites to sign him and teammate Gladwin as the Loftus Road club look to strengthen before facing sanctions from the Football League over FFP. Luongo, an Australian international, is a former Tottenham trainee and worked with Ramsey and Tim Sherwood at the club's academy. Gladwin has progressed through the non-league circuit. Swindon chairman Lee Power said: 'There are a numbers of offers for Massimo. That’s not surprising because he’s been a star for us this year. 'Something could happen this week - we have three substantial offers in from Premier League clubs and we need to sit down with Massimo and his advisors and decide what to do.' He told The World Game: 'The numbers being mentioned are around £3million, which is good money for us and we’ll be pleased with that. 'When I signed him from Tottenham, I promised him he would stay here a year or two and we’d help develop him and help move him back up the ladder. He’s kept his part of the bargain and we will keep ours.' According to reports today, the three Championship clubs are considering a move for the versatile defender. Jazz who has come through the academy at Swansea, could be available on a cut price deal given that he only has 1 year remaining on his contract. He has struggled to hold down a first team place with the Swans, and that could see him pushing a move through should the offers come knocking on the door. "It's important to get the game-time and if it's not here then it's going to have to be elsewhere, but obviously I'm a Swansea lad so this is where I want to be." He has also said recently that he would like to be playing more games, maybe, quite possibly away from the Liberty. "I'm 24 now so I need to be playing games, If you ask [manager] Garry Monk yourself, I think he'd understand if I said that" He made 14 appearances for Fulham in the Championship this season, and they would be the best suiters for him should he decide to leave. QPR and Derby should provide stiff competition as they prepare for a promotion push next season. www.swansonline.co.uk/article/203/interest-from-qpr-derby-county-and-fulham-for-swans-defender-jazz-richards/?

I think Charlie's opinion is the most important when it comes to whether he wants to stay or not.

Will A Pritchard be allowed out on loan again from Spurs. Alot of good things said about him last season at Brentford.
Ramsey and Les must know him well.

Anyone else notice that Hooper was on the bench at Wembley in the playoff final?
If he's surplus to requirements there I reckon we'll go for him to replace Austin.

Couldn't think of a more perfect start to the transfer window really.
The fact we've attracts these players over Prem club Villa too.... Goes to show Ramsey does have the ability to attract players here and that we do have money to spend....

This is what a Swindon journo is saying about the pair -
"@sammorshead_: @northoltranger @rorington95 Gladwin is a raw talent. Great skill on ball, rocket shot, can pick a pass, a little slow but getting quicker"
"@sammorshead_: @northoltranger @rorington95 Luongo is a terrific box-to-box midfielder, vision, ability on the ball. Needs to improve goals-to-games ratio"

We need a Right Back no?
Why not DeAndre Yedlin on loan from Spurs? He's not playing, he's young and he has pace to burn. Looked like a revelation at the World Cup last year.
Certainly Sir Les could pull some strings at his old club.

Chris Ramsey's side are hopeful of landing the former Arsenal forward, while Australia international and Swindon team-mate Ben Gladwin have both had medicals with the club GOAL By Graeme Bailey Follow on Twitter QPR have moved to sign free agent Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and are closing in on Swindon pair Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin, Goal understands. Former Arsenal forward Emmanuel-Thomas scored 12 goals for Bristol City last season as they clinched promotion to the Championship, but left the club after his contract expired. Emmanuel-Thomas is understood to have attracted interest from Premier League sides Aston Villa, Watford and Bournemouth and has held talks with a number of clubs. But QPR, who are gearing up for life in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League, are hopeful of agreeing a deal with the 24-year-old. QPR boss Chris Ramsey is also set to be reunited with Luongo, who had a medical in west London on Tuesday. Ramsey coached 22-year-old Luongo while the Australian was a part of Tottenham's youth academy, before he left Spurs for Swindon in 2013. Midfielder Gladwin, 22, has also undergone a medical ahead of a move to QPR after Swindon were soundly beaten by Preston in the League One play-off final. QPR's recruitment drive for young talent follows the release of six experienced players with Joey Barton, Rio Ferdinand, Richard Dunne, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Bobby Zamora and Brian Murphy all leaving. www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2015/05/27/12149792/qpr-move-for-emmanuel-thomas-close-in-on-luongo
