8 Years From the BBC link above UPDATEDQPR: Chris Ramsey named manager until end of season By Ben Smith BBC Sport QPR caretaker boss Chris Ramsey has been given the manager's job at the Premier League club until the end of the season. Ramsey, 52, had been in temporary charge at Loftus Road with director of football Les Ferdinand after Harry Redknapp quit to have knee surgery. On Tuesday QPR chairman Tony Fernandes said he had got his "dream manager". It is not clear if he was referring to Ramsey, or a potential permanent successor to Redknapp for next season. Former Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood was contacted about the job, while Derby manager Steve McClaren and Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement were also in the frame - although Fernandes dismissed media reports as wide of the mark. Ex-Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup, currently in charge of Qatari side Lekhwiya, ruled himself out of taking over at QPR in the short term. QPR chairman Tony Fernandes on Twitter QPR chairman Tony Fernandes sent this message to his Twitter followers on Tuesday QPR lost 1-0 to Southampton in Ramsey's first game as interim boss, but they ended an 11-game losing run away from home on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Ramsey said at the start of the week that he was desperate to be given the chance to try to keep QPR in the top flight. "If you got offered the chance to coach a Premier League team you would jump at the chance," Ramsey said. Ramsey was brought to QPR by Ferdinand in October 2014 and appointed the club's academy manager. Redknapp resigned on 3 February, saying he needed "immediate surgery" on his knee and it would be "better for someone else to take over" because he could not "give 100%" to the job. The 67-year-old led QPR to promotion to the Premier League last season via the Championship play-offs. From goal.com www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2015/02/12/8863992/- Ramsey set to be named QPR manager Chairman Tony Fernandes believes the 52-year-old is the man to lead the struggling R's to Premier League safety after he oversaw their first away win of the season on Tuesday By Liam Twomey Chris Ramsey is set to be appointed QPR manager until the end of the season, Goal understands. Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood - who worked with Ramsey and QPR director of football Les Ferdinand at White Hart Lane last season - was initially the favourite to succeed Harry Redknapp at Loftus Road, and on Tuesday Goal reported that the 46-year-old had agreed a deal to become the club's new manager. But talks between Sherwood and QPR chairman Tony Fernandes subsequently broke down, with the latter tweeting: "Think I have got my dream manager. Not what anyone thinks. Take a while. Still a bit to go but I'm very happy. Press all wrong." Michael Laudrup was immediately installed as the new front-runner for the post but quickly ruled himself out as a candidate, insisting he has no intention of leaving Qatari club Lekhwiya in the near future. And Fernandes now believes Ramsey is the right man to guide QPR to Premier League safety after he oversaw the club's first away victory of the season against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday. That result moved QPR out of the relegation zone on goal difference and they now lie 17th, having garnered 22 points from 25 games.

Right thing to do I reckon. Yeah I agree. I'd rather us stick if we've not found the most appropriate longer-term manager solution yet. Regardless of whether he does well enough to land the job full-time (though I can't see it at the mo with our track record), keeping us up should be a huge motivation for Chris Ramsey in terms of his CV. Knows the players, indicates that he's eager to integrate youth and there's 13 games to go. See where we are come May - this is seems the most pragmatic thing to do right now. Better than rolling the dice on hiring a "fire fighter" manager.

I love the fact that Ramsey has got it great, let's try and stay up now . I think we have a chance It shouldn't matter two hoots if the players like the Manager or not though, should it? He's there to do a job ruffles feathers or not. Even if they didn't like someone they should just get there head down a do the job like him him not, isn't that's what there paid for. Guess I'm just old school, dinosaur attitude , roarrrrr

The irony is that tweets like that spark so much speculation and journos attempting to make links that it's hard to tell if it's someone we've been linked with or not. Looking at it optimistically, we're looking longer term at a dream candidate and we're willing to promote internally for now than panic-appointing someone.

Nothing on Official site or sky yet maybe a touch of an educated guess? Still nothing over an hour after the BBC first broke the story. All and sundry (including our own Joey) have picked up on the story. I'm off to bed now so I guess I'll find out if it's true or false when I wake up. I do hope it's true.

He just said it isn't who we all thought and the press was wrong, at the time it was being reported that it would definitely be Sherwood.

If we lose to Hull, then maybe people will quickly change their mind Not really. He's got his work cut out. But most of us are just glad that the board haven't just gone and got the next "name" manager but are taking a common sense approach to the appointment this time. If we lose to Hull at least we won't be paying Ramsey £3m or £2m a year for the privilege. If Ramsey loses every game between now and the end of the season at least the club won't be paying a kings ransom and stuck with a long term big money contract manager. My understanding is that they want Clement long term but he can't come until the summer. This move now makes sense if Clement is their man.

End of the day, if we go down with Ramsey at least we go down with dignity and a bit of pride restored in our team. Because that's how I've felt since he took over, my pride has been restored a bit. The players love him, the other coaches at the club love him, he's a breath of fresh air. Regardless of the result against Hull I know our players are in safe hands with him coaching them

Such a big difference in skillset in terms of keeping a team in the prem and re-building one in the Championship for a sustained promotion push. With that in mind, someone like Ramsay is sensible - and as you rightly say, it definitely restores a bit of pride.

For the first time in ages I actually think like the club is finally taking steps to give this club our soul and identity back. I make no apologies for showing my joy at these perceived events.

If Ramsey kept us up you wouldn't not expect him to get it full time next season ? If we went down Ramsey might get it in the Championship but would Clement want it in that Division. All hypotheticals I guess Ramsey has my backing for all 13 games , even if we lose them all which we won't. Oh Rory, you know when we signed Redknapp...... (The players love him, the other coaches at the club love him, he's a breath of fresh air)

Agree with most of the above. Ramsey appears to have the players (and the fans) respect and that's the MOST important part in us succeeding on the pitch for the remainder of this season.
Looking forward to press conferences that are not full of cliches and platitudes.

Glad Ramsey has been given the chance. He seems a likeable level headed fella who loves the club and relishes the chance to keep us up. Regardless of whether he does or not, i think this is just the kind of person the fans wanted all along, just somebody passionate who cares. Influenced by fans on twitter or not, well done Tony and the board for making the right decision for once.
