Rio Ferdinand has announced he is retiring at the end of the season ,funny I thought he had retired already by his performances son far for us we have well and truly been taken for an ride Arrys bs and Ferdinand's as well ,ie this is where in wanted to come back to absolute bollox ,all he wanted was another pay day and unfortunately we provided it ,I am really pissed off with the fact that we have just topped up his pension fund and been totally used ,not that I want him in the team but Carry kept bigging him up all the time and for me he has been a total waste of space ,maybe ,just maybe ,he might see all the reactions to this news and retire now ,heres hoping ,never know I got one wish to drop him ,two would be a real bonus ,

Must be another central defender out there with a book to sell or a pension to top up that we can sign in January. Come on Uncle Tone, you know you can make it happen.

Don't get excited; What he said was that he "would probably retire". Long way from actually doing it and if he is feeling it too much physically there is a mutual break clause in his contract for January - just as there was for Richard Dunn last season. Seems like a decent sort of agreement - one year contract with a break clause after 6 months on a salary way below what he had before is not exactly being taken for a ride. As for topping up his pension fund - I'm sure he really needs it and that's why he joined - he would have made more staying as TV pundit. If he goes in January who is the next target to slang off?.

Back to SWP I guess

Harry's assessment of Rio in today's press conference was glowing giving the impression that he a model Pro., first in at training, last to leave , great spirit , yada, yada. I think He probably is but unfortunately his days of competing in pro football are sadly over

Rio isn't in the mercenary class by any means and is not on monster wages.
Fact is that, as Spanishal said, he's no good anymore. Plus he's playing for a completely sh*te team right now where there is no hiding place for him. If he was playing for someone like, say, Southampton, he'd look fairly decent.
Rather all parties admitted now this was a good idea in theory that didn't work in practice and cut the cord on this failed experiment. Rio can then concentrate on his new book and baseball caps and Onuoha/Dunne can play every week when fit.
Harry can then look for a RB in January and play the Chief with Caulker for rest of the season.

Thought he'd retired from playing a few years ago ! Can't quite believe reports that we're only being stung for 35k a week ,that's nearly half what we're paying SWP

Really hoping Onouha is back Monday and Ferdinand stays on the bench . I think after the 45 minutes against Liv he deserves to start if possible, he was immense in that 45 .

I dont think it is so much taking us for a ride but the fact is that he is no longer up to the level required.

Even when Rio was at his peak I thought he was awful at defending crosses into the box. Vidic won almost everything to help him out.

I have said that all along that Vidic was the dominant one in the cb partnership made Ferdinand look better than he actually was ,you only have to look at the results when Vidic was playing and when he was not and you will see , just to add Terry Butcher does not rate him in the top five England centre backs ,anyway I have said before what I think of him so I won't bore you anymore

Did anyone believe he had that type of performance left in him at this level!! He was immense and Karl Henry looks a better player in the prem than he did in the CL!

Irish Independent
Wednesday 29 October 2014 Rio Ferdinand among all-star guests at 2014 Web SummitMichael Staines Published 28/10/2014 | 02:30 Premier League footballers Rio Ferdinand (inset) and Philippe Senderos have been added to the line-up for next week's Dublin Web Summit. Billed as the largest tech event in Europe, the Web Summit has gone from strength to strength since it was founded in 2010. This year's event will see more than 20,000 people in attendance at the RDS. The 2014 edition includes a 'Sport Summit' for the first time, featuring talks from an all-star cast of athletes, coaches and sport-tech entrepreneurs including pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk and Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley. The talks will focus on the intersection between sport, performance, business and technology. "Our inaugural Sport Summit is amazing, we have nine brilliant stages but personally I'm really looking forward to checking out some of the talks at Sport Summit. It's going to be a real highlight," said Web Summit founder and CEO, Paddy Cosgrave. Conor McGregor, who could be in line for a UFC featherweight title bout if he wins his next fight in Boston in January, was the most searched-for Irish athlete on Google in 2013. Away from the pitch, footballers Ferdinand and Senderos are also technological entrepreneurs, with Ferdinand owning his own digital publishing company and Senderos a leading investor in online football community 'Soccer Without Limits' (SWOL). The Web Summit runs from November 4-6 and a limited number of 'late booker' tickets are available at websummit.net Irish Independent www.independent.ie/business/technology/web-summit/rio-ferdinand-among-allstar-guests-at-2014-web-summit-30697884.html

Not at the level he played against Villa, but he was a very solid defender last season as well, especially when paired with Onouha. As long as he has someone with pace beside him, he is a very good CB. I would just keep going with Caulker and Dunne until there is a reason not to. Dunne seems like a positive influence on Caulker and he has been in the position before with Villa. As far as Henry goes, I actually liked him in the Championship, but didn't expect him to be able to play to the level he has this season.

If Rio had been playing well then why punish his club for something he said on his own twitter account.........the fa....

Have to agree with scarletpimple, why is it anything to do with the FA? If an employee does something in his own time on his own personal twitter account, it's surely up to the employer what, if any, action should be taken... Thankfully we won't be missing him too much, played much better the last couple of games without him!
