01/10/2014 By West London Sport Harry Redknapp insists Matt Phillips has the ability to be a success in the Premier League for QPR. The 23-year-old wide-man has struggled for fitness and form since his move to Loftus Road from Blackpool last summer. He was playing well before an ankle injury sidelined him in February and he has endured a disappointing start to this season, missing chances in Rangersβ 4-0 defeats at Tottenham and Manchester United. Phillips was also unable to make an impact at Southampton on Saturday before being replaced by Junior Hoilett. But Redknapp said: βHeβs got all the ammunition. Heβs big, powerful, quick and has good skill. βHe needs to weigh in with a few goals. He needs lots of work but thereβs definitely a talent there. He can do it.β www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-wls-redknapp-expects-improvement-from-qpr-wide-man

At the minute don't see it if honest . Would go as much to say the worst two players we have been using this year that have not showed any consistency are Ferdie and Phillips both average.
Other players I can see gradual improvements now every week, like Isla,Vargas, Niko etc but Phillips so far this year looked Championship Level. Last year he had a brilliant spell in the Champs prior to injury agree and thought he would come back to that in the Prem but not yet. Alot of huff and puff with no end product . Finishing is dreadful, usually row Z. Apologies for being so harsh but that's how I see that one.

I have mixed feelings with Phillips, he did fairly well helping Isla defend and it's good to see Redknapp not give on developing one of our younger players. Thought he did well when brought into the Stoke game, but against Southampton he wasn't at his best and Hoilett did better. Also, as said before, his finishing has been dreadful. However, in the Championship he struggled in his first few games, but when he got into form he was a very useful player, hopefully he can be that player in this league. Not to forget, at 23 he is still developing and improving his game. But I do agree, players like Isla, Vargas and Austin are improving much more in each game.

Can't see it , doesn't seem to have the intelligence in his game to do the right thing , his only asset is his speed , shooting and crossing at times woeful just like his namesake .

Phillips is an athlete and could most probably do quite well switching roles into a defending type of role or 2/3rd choice sub as I can't see him getting any sort of success this year in this league.

Of course "Arry would say what he's saying about Phillips. He has chosen him ahead of Hoilett etc so needs to justify his decision given Matty's poor current form.
Junior plays better when he comes on in place of Matty but that could be because he is fresher.
Maybe its time to start Junior and see how Matty fares coming off the bench.

Can't see it myself either, simply don't think he can make that step up yet. Maybe with time but it's a risk for us really.

I think it may be a case of Harry trying to give back a bit of confidence to Phillips, that he has obviously lost since his injury. I agree he has not been doing well but he and Hoilett have been playing on different sides of the pitch so a straight swap of the 2 will involve some other juggling. I would like to see the whole squad get fit, if not by this weekend at least by the end of the international break, then pick a team and let them play half a dozen games together. We have had a different line up each week and that certainly is not helping especially with so many new faces in it. Vargas and Austin have played a couple of games together and are already starting to show an understanding (despite the language). Isla is improving as well. A bit of stability will in team selection go a long way. I agree with pretty much all of this, keep playing the same team together and this is probably just Harry trying to rebuild Phillip's confidence. I actually expected Phillips along with Charlie, Barton, Hoilett and Simpson(although he's gone) to be players from the Championship team that could start and be successful in the Premier League. To an extent I can understand why he keeps playing him, he has had more open chances on goal than any other player, but can't finish the chances. At this point, I think he will have to become a sub. Hoilett is much better on the left, so he really wouldn't take his place, but Vargas should. Also as you said, Vargas and Austin are starting to play well together and Isla is continuing to improve and obviously plays well with Vargas, so they need to keep starting those players together. As I said in a previous post, it seems they are playing better with the injuries, probably due to forcing Harry to start the same teams.

Which Phillips is he talking about again? i mistake them for each other.
Two headless chickens sitting on a wall, two headless chickens sitting on a wall and if one headless chicken should happen to fall, there'd be one headless chicken sitting on the wall.
