Four games into the season and Green has continued to do what he does best - get beat at the near post on shots, let other shots that hit him on both hands make their way into the net and look decidedly less than commanding on crosses.
Any chance of a change soon? Loyalty only goes so far. After that it comes down to performance so I'm hoping it won't be long before McCarthy takes over. We didn't buy him for the future - he's too old to sit and wait - we bought him for the now!

If we lose to a Stoke because of keeper error, soon, very soon

Green was alright for the championship but he is hopeless with anything to his right , woeful for first 2 goals against Utd . I would start McCarthy Saturday but that won't happen and Stoke will try their luck with Greens obvious weaknesses . Must win game Saturday , losing to Hughes is unthinkable

always said Green is not a Premiership keeper and what I have seen so far this season just enforces my view ,does not come for crosses and I agree about anything on the right ,mind you I have to say he can sometimes be a good shot stopper ,I would maybe see how it goes against Stoke and reassess ,and maybe think about bringing McCarhy in ,but I don't think it will happen as he is triffic according to Arry, I sometimes wonder if Arry shows a little bit too much of sentimentality in his team selections ,after all how many times has he signed Nico ,just a few thoughts

Asap. We are leaking goals. Bad enough having Hill play and Dunne play. Jury still out on Ferdinand too. We need to shore up the defence NOW!

Pretty much agree with that, 57. Some players react to dropping with fire - think Joey Barton. If do it to Green it, really will shatter his confidence. As I think he himself said, he likes to know the position is his. As for McCarthy: He gains a lot - Just by being part of the team makeup and on the bench. If necessary presume we'll do it. But think Green deserves more. MCarthy has a long time to show himself (hopefully!) - If we go down, I think our signings for the future will be sold.

Green got us over the line last season. Fantastic professional, a wealth of experience and McCarthy will doubtless learn from him.
A couple of weeks ago I read a writer (on a football web site) criticising Green for apparently not being able to save to his right - now everyone is spouting the same mantra.
How about showing a bit of faith and loyalty?

Last season is last season. We are in the Prem now. I'm not one for dropping Green now, but if he continues to leak goals I'm for giving McCarthy a go.

Last season is last season. Another way of putting it is that last season was only four competitive games ago. Green isn't a one-man defence. This season our defence has been poor, partly due to uncertainty in playing a new defensive formation. I think the side will begin to settle and know what to expect from each other. Personally I think Green earned us two, if not three points against Sunderland. If Green consistently makes serious c*ock-ups that cost us points, then there's a case for dropping him for a game or two. But hounding out good players on the basis of one or two results won't do anyone any good in the long run.

Green should get a medal for playing behind the current defence.

Ironically both of Stokes goals had Green diving to his right.... again.

McCarthy is a top goalie, I'd play him next week, Ned needs to be called up too. Henry, with the injuries may have to be picked too, but he has pleasantly surprised me with his performances of late

Again, I think Green has to have a series of "stinkers" before Redknapp will act.
And again, I personally would stick with Green
If you drop him: That means we have to stick with McCarthy
Maybe if Green had a stronger defense in front of him

Ironically both of Stokes goals had Green diving to his right.... again. Did they? 1st one he didn't stand a chance and it should have been disallowed anyway but hey, it appears to be open season on Green at the moment so let's blame him anyway.

Looked to me that Stoke were carving apart QPR....
So if we have problems, and can certainly argue Green Vs Mcarthy....But we have big problems in the Defense as a whole

Nothing that Green could have done with the second goal, but I thought (maybe wrongly) that as the cross for the first goal ws a little floater that he could have come & claimed the ball.
Although he wasn't culpable on his own, Ferdinand was very flat footed for both goals.
I do believe that McCarthy will be our goalkeeper in the long term but I'm not sure that Green has played badly enough to be dropped at present.
