On paper, we do seem to have a very well balanced team that I am looking to see play together.
------------ Green ----------- - Isla - Caulker - Rio - Yun - ------ Barton - Sandro ------ - Philips --- Fer --- Hoilett - ------------ Austin -----------
Subs: McCarthy Onahura (RB or CB) Hill (LB or CB) Mutch (DM or AM) Kranjcar (AM or Wing) Vargas (AM, Striker or Wing) Zamora (Striker)
Even if we play 3-5-2 ------------ Green ------------ -- Caulker -- Rio -- Onahura -- - Isla - Barton - Sandro - Yun - -------------- Fer ------------- ------- Vargas --- Austin ------
Subs: McCarthy Dunne (CB) Hill (CB) Mutch (DM or AM) Kranjcar (AM) Hoilett or Philips (AM or Striker) Zamora (Striker)

Yes the 19 players you mentioned do look strong enough to preserve our Premiership status (I do think Mutch will start most weeks whatever system we adopt). If you then consider that the other back ups in the "25" on that basis are Murphy, Ehmer, Traore, Henry, Wright-Phillips & Taarabt with Doughty & Harriman missing out and the under 21s potential bench fillers, it's all looking quite promising.

That is the interesting thing about QPR now, we are blessed with quality midfield options. Based on the games v Hull and Sunderland:IMO would Mutch play ahead of a fit Joey Barton, no chance. IMO would Mutch play ahead of the Beast if he is fit, nope. IMO would Mutch play ahead of Fer in the advanced midfielder role, (his preferred position), on last weeks evidence, no as well. We now have 5 quality midfielders and if they are all match fit, the permutations provide the best midfield options we have had at W12 for a generation or two and should keep the competition for places healthy. Two DM's from Barton, Sandro, Mutch and Fer. One AM from Mutch, Fer and Kranjcar. Also, if the fat, lazy .... mans up, you could add him to the AM option as well.

Can't play 2 holding mids in a 3-5-2 so I'd say Sandro over Barton all day long

The 3-5-2 formation doesn't affect anything else, apart from allowing you to play two strikers. ------------ Green ------------ -- Caulker -- Rio -- Onahura -- - Isla - Barton - Sandro - Yun - -------------- Fer -------------------- Vargas --- Austin ------

The Evening Standard's take www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/rangers-will-dominate-the-midfield-but-they-look-desperately-short-up-top--qpr-transfer-window-review-9706589.html'Rangers will dominate the midfield, but they look desperately short up top' - QPR transfer window review SIMON JOHNSON Published: 02 September 2014 Updated: 14:00, 02 September 2014 If there is one thing you can rely on with Harry Redknapp, it’s that he loves being reunited with a familiar face. Once again Redknapp has looked to players he has worked with in the past. Defenders Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker, winger Niko Kranjcar (who took a massive pay-cut to re-join on loan from Dynamo Kiev) and Sandro all came because they have played for the man in charge before. Redknapp also added Leroy Fer and Jordan Mutch, who will help dominate the middle of the pitch. Chilean star Mauricio Isla should be an improvement at right back following his loan switch and ’keeper Alex McCarthy will add competition for Robert Green. However, Rangers do look worryingly short up front even though they remain confident that Napoli’s Eduardo Vargas, who has agreed a season-long loan, will soon get his work permit and be able to join the squad. Last day moves for Jermain Defoe and Fabio Borini both fell through and Redknapp could have only Charlie Austin and Bobby Zamora to call upon. Departures QPR have one of the longest lists of departing players, but there is one name that will hurt much more than any other. The club came so close to keeping Loic Remy — until January at least — only for Chelsea to meet his £10.5m buy-out clause. Julio Cesar, Stephane Mbia, Esteban Granero and Andy Johnson have also left, but their absences will be less keenly felt. Transfer deadline day Every Premier League deadline day deal As it happened: Relive transfer deadline day Best Signing Sandro. It was noticeable how many Tottenham followers expressed their dismay at the Brazilian heading to Loftus Road. Sandro will provide real presence and is a likeable character in the dressing room.

Talking of dominating the middle, this is the team I would play v Man Utd.
It would allow us to close them down quickly, preventing them from playing out from the back, smother the middle and killing their patient build up play, allowing Onahura, Caulker and Ferdinand (guaranteed to get MOTM) to mop up their hoof balls.
------------ Green ------------ -- Caulker -- Rio -- Onahura -- - Isla - Barton - Sandro - Yun - -------- Mutch ---- Fer -------- ------------ Vargas ------------
Hoddle is the master of 3-5-2 and I bet he will be getting us ship shape in beating it.

Three were midfielders and two were wing backs which is the 3-5-2 formation.

Too much emphasis on formations IMO. We should be able to play various formations on the fly during games as games develop. This needs flexible players that I think we now have plus on field leadership to make the calls after quick word with the manager without waiting for half time or a substitution to be told what to do. Time for Rio and Barton to step forward I agree and there's the experience in the side now to make that happen..

I think we look strong in midfield but fairly average in defence. We desperately need back up for Austin up front as well. Maybe we might be able to get Remy off the scum bench on loan.

Can't see why would play the 3-5-2 with the shortage of strikers, not to mention he seems to open up our backfield. I think the 4-3-3, 4-4-1-1/4-5-1 will be the formations we see the most. Vargas can always play on the wings or behind the strikers.

Why not play 4-3-3?
Green
Isla Ferdinand Caulker Hill
Barton Sandro Fer
Phillips Austin Mutch/Vargas
McCarthy/Onouhra/Yun/Krancjar/Hoilett/Mutch or Vargas/Zamora

I'm disappointed that none of you have SWP in your starting line ups.

If we are going to play one up front against man Utd it has to be Vargas providing he is fit to play. He is pacey and can finish and smalling and jones already know they can't really cope with him
