Rewind, October 8, 1949 and a bad day for Hoops
No go: Bill Pointon tries in vain against Hull keeper Billy Bly who played 22 seasons for Tigers
The very first time QPR entertained Hull they were beaten 4-1 at home.
Not the best omen for Saturday's Premier League opener considering Rangers have been drubbed twice in a first-day fixture over the last three seasons - and one of those by 4-0.
Bolton inflicted the damage in 2011 after Clint Hill was sent off, and keeper Rob Green’s debut was one he would rather forget the following season when Swansea put five past him without reply.
Against Hull in 1949, a Rangers side enjoying only their second campaign in the second tier started well and scored within 25 seconds against Leeds on day one, and then slumped.

When Hull and the legendary Horatio ‘Raich' Carter came a-calling, Hoops were in the middle of a 10-match winless streak, and the defeat by Hull was the second of four home reverses on the spin.
Carter, who played 13 times for England while also a county cricketer with Derbyshire, scored twice with other goals from Jensen and Harrison.
Rangers solitary reply came from Ted Duggan, playing inside left in the old ‘W’ formation, and judging by the pencilling in one programme from the game, price 3d (1.5p), manager Dave Mangall had to shuffle his luckless side a fair bit.
The season continued in much the same vein of good bits, followed by a fair few bad, and by the end Rangers finished one position above the drop zone, with Bert Addinall leading scorer on 11.
Mind you, current chairman Tony Fernandes has already reckoned he’ll settle for the same to keep Hoops in the Premier League.
