Time for me to quit Twitter: Tony Fernandes
The AirAsia chief contemplates quitting the social network, says he spends too much time on it
T E Narasimhan | Chennai April 05, 2014 Last Updated at 10:58 IST
Twitter may lose one of its most active and high profile users as Tony Fernandes, AirAsia CEO, said he is contemplating quitting the social network.
Fernandes uses the social network to post major announcements about the airline, offers and industry among other things.
On Saturday, Fernandes posted on the social network: "Reaching 50 years. I think time for me to quit Twitter. Think I spend to much time on it. It's been awesome but time to move on. Thoughts..."
Fernandes started his Twitter journey on December 7, 2008. According to his account, 9,63,839 people follow him on this social network and he has so far posted 10,993 messages.
When asked earlier as to why he makes announcements through twitter, Fernandes had said, "I get very good response from you [the media] guys on Twitter. Tatas went mad when I announced the joint venture on Twitter. Later they called me, hey, put this on Twitter. The first time, they thought we were crazy."
An AirAsia official, who doesnot want to be named, said: "if you want to know all about AirAsia and need a comment from him (Tony), log on to his twitter, it is the best way".
That is not an exaggeration considering that the AirAsia India JV announcement, Mittu Chandilya's appointment as AirAsia India CEO, the airline getting FIPB and NOCs, everything was first announced on Twitter.
Here some of the important and interesting tweets by Fernandes:

I think there is little accountability in Malaysia. That really needs to change if we are to progress as a nation. Blame game must end.
Airlines. Airlines take all the risk on getting growth. Developing new routes, buying aircraft, fuel, losses.
On my way home. It's not good news but here's hoping that MH 370 is found.
March 21, 2014
Airasia India first aircraft arrives in India. In Chennai. Wow. Still a bit to do bit on the final straight.
