Wales on Line By Chris Wathan Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay's trusted aide Iain Moody suspended and replaced by Kazakh rookie 8 Oct 2013 22:00
Iain Moody, the head of recruitment who Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has credited with most of his signings, has been suspended by Cardiff City and replaced by 23-year-old Kazakhstani Alisher ApsalyamovMalky Mackay's right-hand man Iain Moody has been suspended by Cardiff City - with his role being filled by rookie Kazakhstani Alisher Apsalyamov. Head of Recruitment Moody, Mackay’s most trusted lieutenant, has played a key role in helping deliver signings during the manager’s successful two-year spell in charge of the Bluebirds But WalesOnline has learned Moody - who also worked alongside Mackay at Watford - has left his post with the previously unknown Apsalyamov taking over his duties in an acting capacity. Malky Mackay Malky Mackay is enduring a tough week The shock news, which is likely to unsettle Mackay, comes just days after it was revealed the Bluebirds boss has also been forced to deal with tensions between City’s players and owner Vincent Tan over a bonus row. We have been told Tan has wanted his own man overseeing transfer activity and Moody’s position appears to have become less and less secure. Moody has become the most influential member of Mackay’s backroom team, sent by the manager to various parts of the world to target, talk to and sign the players who have helped the Bluebirds win the Championship title and also stabilise in the Premier League. Apsalyamov has been at Cardiff since February, describing his position as executive assistant to CEO Simon Lim - although has not previously been listed by the club as a key staff member on their website or matchday programme. According to his own biography on a social networking site, Apsalyamov - thought to be a friend of owner Vincent Tan’s son U-Jiun - has no previous experience in football. But is believed he has spent several weeks shadowing Moody, a figure Mackay has regularly praised in public for his work in Cardiff’s forensic approach to talent-spotting and recruiting. www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cardiff-city-boss-malky-mackays-6158805

No understanding of football by foreign owners - yet again. Glad it's not happening here.

Glad it's not happening here. .....but it did happen here. Last year Sparky the clueless one did a great job of stuffing up our club!! I agree. I couldn't find the smilies bit on the mobile so just posted. It should have been - Glad it's not happening here. I've just had a trawl round the Cardiff forums. All doom and gloom - reminiscent of Blackburn fans when they were in their darkest days. They fully expect Mackay to walk or be sacked, one unhappy bunch. As we had a bellyful last year I'm just pleased to see one of my favourite clubs suffer a bit

The difference is that while we made terrible decisions etc, etc...This is such an unnecessary and crazy action by Cardiff...
Offhand, the immediate closest at QPR is when we tried to appoint Rodney Marsh over Gerry Francis
Or when Crystal Palace were promoted about a decade ago to Premier and appointed one of their Italian players as player manager

Surely, Mackay has no option.
He either walks away (probably what Tan wants) or loses the respect of all the players & background staff.
Leave with head held high or stay with loss of dignity.

23 year old Kazakhstani? LOL
Tan wouldn't be appointing anyone just because he is friends with his son. First check who the father is, and see any business connections. I'd expect this is Tan's way of getting into Kazakhtstan's oil and gas in some capacity.
Also the past few years a few of Malaysia's super rich have been quietly doing business in Kazakhstan. PM Najib himself has a daughter who married one of the Kazakhstani President's sons, shame it was the useless one who has an outstanding US warrant and is technically hiding out in our PM's mansion.
The Opposition here suspects the main reason is that if ever there was a change of government or revolution, the corrupt Malaysian government officials and business cronies would all flee to Kazakhstan, a county where international law holds little sway.

Football Narcissism. Changing the brand from Cardiff City (a football club no matter who owns it) to a 'Tan' brand (all me, me, me, me, me)

The FA need to change the "right and proper" test for prospective owners so it includes compulsory viewing of "The Four Year Plan" documentary

Hate to say it but good luck Cardiff City Fans www.theguardian.com/football/2013/oct/15/cardiff-city-fans-malky-mackay Cardiff City fans demand transparency over Malky Mackay position
• Supporters' trust wants representative on executive • New approach to governance of club is urged Jamie Jackson theguardian.com, Tuesday 15 October 2013 07.38 EDT The Cardiff City Supporters' Trust wants the club to fundamentally change its approach, with the body calling for a representative on the executive and greater transparency as the uncertainty surrounding Malky Mackay's position as manager continues. Following a board meeting on Monday, Mackay's agent, Raymond Sparkes, said the manager would not resign but admitted the Scot could yet be sacked by Vincent Tan, the owner. With Cardiff still to comment on the board meeting, the trust issued a statement. Tim Hartley, the chairman, said: "Bluebirds fans deserve a full explanation following the board meeting, including the reasoning behind the decision to appoint Alisher Apsalyamov as acting head of recruitment. The events of the last week at Cardiff demonstrate the need for a new approach to the ownership and governance of professional football clubs. "Cardiff could make a start by acting in a more transparent way and by engaging and communicating with fans. It could also consider having a supporter director who would be able to represent the fans views at the top table. "Despite yesterday's lengthy board meeting supporters are still concerned about the long-term future of our manager. There is confusion over the departure of Iain Moody [the former head of recruitment] with Malky Mackay's agent now stating that he will make a statement if the club remains silent. "We reiterate our support for Malky Mackay who has been one of the best managers in the club's history."

So why was Moody given the flick? Well, if you're going to fast track your sons mate sorry, a work experience trainee, from painting the stadium to chief scout then you don't want anyone in the way, as it makes a good dose of nepotism that much easier.
