GALLEN MAKES HUDDERSFIELD SWITCH
KEVIN GALLEN today joined Huddersfield Town on a Bosman free transfer after spending eight years with the QPR.
The 24-year-old joined the club in 1992 and smashed the South East Counties League scoring record held by Jimmy Greaves
for over 30 years before breaking into the Rangers first team two years later.
After a promising first season in the Premiership where he scored 13 times in tangent with Les Ferdinand,
Gallen sustained a horrific knee injury against Portsmouth when scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Fratton Park in 1997.
Since that injury Kevin struggled to find the form that made him one of the hottest prospects in the English game and
although his talent was never in question, he found himself out of the starting line-up in recent years
and subsequently he decided to leave the club after his contract expired this summer.
After a successful trial with the Terriers, Gallen becomes Steve Bruce's
first signing of the summer just three days before the big kick-off.
Everyone at QPR wishes Kevin well with his new club and will look forward
to see back at Loftus Road on November 18 when Rangers take on Huddersfield.

FRANCIS' FEET ON THE GROUND
DIRECTOR of football Gerry Francis was pleased with the winning start against Huddersfield, but refused to get carried away with the result.
Gerry said: "Gavin Peacock told me that it was the first time Rangers had won the opening game of the season for two or three years. That's a bonus.
"It was a good, hard fought game and we scored some very good goals at the right times for ourselves. Obviously I'm delighted to have a win to start the season off.
"The game showed a lot about our good points and a lot about our not-so-good points. We got the first goal and then we backed off a little bit, taking our foot off the throttle to let them back into it.
"Then Huddersfield were having a good share of the game before we managed to get an excellent second goal.
"Some great, one-touch passing and a fantastic cross, a great header down and a good finish. Obviously, that put us in a commanding position.
"In the second half, Rob Steiner should have made it 3-0 with his header and that could have killed off the game. I felt quite comfortable then.
"But Huddersfield scored from a throw-in and that goal completely changed the game for about 20 minutes, and it showed the other side of us where we tend to panic, stop our passing, go deep and give the opposition the initiative.
"We've worked very hard on trying to change it, and certainly we've got to work harder. But we dug in there and Ludo made a great save to keep the score 2-1 when we played a silly offside situation.
"Then we got the goal when Chris Kiwomya did some great work on the left and Gavin Peacock was very brave to get his head there. So all in all, it's a great three points for us."
THE win over Huddersfield saw Rangers gain three points in their opening fixture for only the second time in the past 10 season. The last 10 opening day results have been:
1990 - drew 1-1 at Forest
1991 - drew 1-1 at Arsenal
1992 - drew 1-1 at Man City
1993 - lost 4-1 at Villa
1994- lost 2-0 at Man Utd
1995 - lost 1-0 at Blackburn
1996 - won 2-1 at home to Oxford
1997 - drew 0-0 at home to Ipswich
1998 - lost 1-0 at Sunderland
1999 - won 3-1 at home to Huddersfield
