Yes, remember him well, making his runs quite effectively and weighing in with a lot of goals for a - well, what was he? I think of him as a deepish inside forward, but he may have been down as a wing half.
Always seemed a bit absurd to play as Longbottom for donkeys' years in front of thousands - tens of thousands - of irreverent supporters every week, and then change his name AFTERWARDS. I suppose you get so much stick at football, it hardly mattered.

Yes I remember him well from my childhood days of supporting the R's
As I recall he never really got the credit he deserved from the Adult supporters of the time.. strange because his record speaks for itself...but was more of a Hero at his other clubs especially Port Vale where he was a star in their cup run of 1962.
Anybody there in that promotion clash v Walsall in April 1961 at LR could never forget that winning goal goal he scored from the half way line!(1-0)

Yeah, the Walsall game. Never forgotten dear old Bury and Walsall, squeezing us out. Like you, kerrins old son, I'm always a little surprised at Arthur's impressive record - on paper - since he wasn't as highly rated as you'd think. Quite a lot of goals from midfield, and he was a busy boy, if my memory serves me. Mind you, londonranger remembers his dad!

A few years ago I worked with a Port Vale supporter of my generation..and he used to be his biggest childhood hero. He thought the world Of Arthur Longbottom.
He got squeezed out by Stocks signings of Bedford Evans Towers Lazarus...not to mention the coming of Clive Clark
