I think Kenny made more mistakes last season than Green has in his whole career!!

that bald bloke from the film hills have eyes summed it up for me.
he says if a midfielder completes 97% of passes he is a success, if a striker gets 97% of shots on target he is considered good, but if a ref gets 97% of decisions correct he is a failure.
whats this got to do with this thread you say?
i dont know

.....i'm to clever for this board. Not really. You failed to use a capital I and missed the extra 'o' in your adverb. :-p

Anyone think its strange he has only signed a 2yr deal? Presumably he has a chunky signing on fee, and is only young for a keeper, i.e 32, so i would of expected a longer term deal? Not sure what to think, but 2yrs seems a bit 'part-time' i.e, not sure about it/only come for the money and will do the same in 2yrs time???

I get the feeling that 2 years might be the policy on transfers and i0t may be a good idea as a lot can happen in that time and we don't want to get stuck with players that might not gel for some reason.
That said, it might put some talent off.

Two Years Ago Today: www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2817425,00.html EXCLUSIVE: GREEN SEALS R'S MOVE Posted on: Thu 21 Jun 2012 England international goalkeeper Robert Green has agreed a two-year deal at Loftus Road. The 32 year-old shot-stopper's deal will commence on July 1st following the conclusion of his contract with West Ham United. Green, who is currently with the England squad at the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine, has a wealth of experience at domestic and international level, having made over 480 Club appearances throughout his career. Rangers boss Mark Hughes expressed his delight at attracting one of England's finest to Loftus Road, commenting: "It was important we brought another quality keeper into the group. Article continues Advertisement "Rob is obviously someone with vast experience at international and Premier League level and his pedigree speaks for itself. "He's got all the characteristics of a top keeper and he'll be a huge addition for us who will stimulate the goalkeeping group, which can only be good for the squad as a whole." Green, who has made 12 starts for the Three Lions, said: "I'm delighted to be here. "I'm excited about the challenge ahead and hugely encouraged by the direction in which the owners and Mark Hughes are looking to take the Club. "It's an exciting period for everybody connected to QPR and I can't wait to get started."

Flashback 5 Years. The signing of Julio Cesar a few weeks later epitomized the insanity of what was going on at QPR in terms of spending

What happened to Rob Green?

I didn't like Robert Green. He made some dodgy miscues for us and had no idea about distribution often wandering over the penalty area before punting ball. He was made moe miserable when we signed the ancient Brazil goalkeeper whose form was in the past. Green sulked about this and would fall asleep on the bench.
We still don't have a good goalkeeper. Its been all downhill since Reg Allen left. Well we did have that one goodie who we sold to W.Ham ntf and the one we sold to Arsenal. My memory is going caput. Jan Steksjal was good but he never learned to speak english. David Seaman.

I actually thought Rob Green acted remarkably well when Cesar was signed. Green wasnt flawless but we forget his good games. And our Promotion/Playoff season, as I recall the reports; he did well

The Cesar signing on top of Green was absolutely pure QPR of that era, absolutely mad. He certainly had his positive moments, as well as some monumental cock-ups - but I agree the Cesar situation was dealt with really poorly.
I think what turned my opinion against him was when he did that big media puff piece about how we weren't willing to have him trigger a contract extension and how hurt he was to be out of the team, supposedly down to our own greed for not wanting to keep paying his wild wages. At that point, he was making mistakes on a regular basis to the point that he was genuinely costing us points, whereas Smithies had come in on less money, was ours long-term and was definitively playing better than he was. He tried to lay the blame solely on the club rather than the fact that he was justifiably getting turfed out of the first team for a keeper in better form (and could keep the ball within our own touchlines). That media piece was disrespectful to Smithies and harsh on us.

When I think of Green, I think about that vacant smile and his hopeless kicking. It made it seem like he didn't care, but I think he did. But he made a great career out of football, only retiring 14 months ago at the age of 39. I do not blame him for coining it in when we were daft enough to sign an even more expensive keeper than him, I don't blame him for extending his contract at Chelsea as 4th choice bench warmer. But like Bow, the hard done by stories never fitted the narrative. To me, he was an average keeper paid well above average wages.
