Meanwhile, sticking with the Leeds "Theme," some unusually frank words from their player/Captain, Robert Snodgrass YORKSHIRE POST Leeds United: A frustrating May for Neil Warnock By Phil Hay Neil Warnock’s vision of a successful summer included a minimum of three signings in the month of May. As things stand he will start his holiday on Friday in disappointed mood, beset by a lack of progress. The Leeds United manager wanted the earliest stages of the transfer window to revitalise his patchy squad and build the spine of a competitive team at Elland Road. Instead, his concerns have multiplied with one played signed, another seemingly outwith his immediate spending power and three of Leeds’ existing players reluctant to commit to new contracts. Warnock made the start he wanted when a £500,000 deal for Jason Pearce was agreed with Portsmouth on May 4 but three weeks of inactivity since that signing have reiterated the scale of the task on his hands and the complications he could face as the close season wears on. Click here to register and have your say on the Leeds United stories and issues that matter to you The 63-year-old planned to have two more deals completed last week and said he would be “disappointed” if they failed to materialise. Disappointed he was. Likewise, his remark on April 28 – the last day of the Championship season – that “I go away at the end of May and I want to have at least three or four lads lined up by that stage” will have been wishful thinking unless the next 48 hours bring sudden developments. A fortnight ago Leeds joined the bidding for Portsmouth right-back Joel Ward, negotiating a fee with Portsmouth’s administrators and inviting the defender north for talks. Ward spoke with Warnock at United’s Thorp Arch training complex on May 9 having flown up from Southampton to discuss a transfer. The deal has been pending for almost two weeks, with Ward – one of Portsmouth’s lower earners – understood to favour a move to Leeds over interest from Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Burnley and Blackpool, but the YEP understands that United have as yet been unable to raise the money needed to pay an up-front fee of around £400,000. The 22-year-old is one of Warnock’s main targets but sources close to the proposed transfer were indicating today that Ward is increasingly likely to take up a different offer. Meanwhile, firm suggestions that Derby County midfielder Paul Green could seal a free transfer to Elland Road before the end of last week also came to nothing, despite solid interest from Leeds. Warnock is understood to have spoken with United chief executive Shaun Harvey on Monday, discussing face-to-face the bid for Ward and progress with other potential signings. The pressure to ensure a consistent stream of arrivals at Elland Road is being increased by uncertainty about the future of three current squad members. Warnock revealed last week that Leeds could be forced to listen to offers for Ross McCormack after the striker’s agent indicated that he was unwilling to sign the improved deal put to him. McCormack is under contract for another 12 months but would be a free agent this time next year. That development was followed yesterday by the suggestion that Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Aidan White will also reject a new contract at Elland Road and leave the club when his current deal expires at the end of next month. Warnock, who has described the terms put to White as “very good”, said: “I don’t expect he will accept the offer from what I was told by his advisors.” White’s camp told the YEP that the 20-year-old’s preference was to stay at Elland Road but said he was looking for a “fair package”. White was heavily linked with Scottish champions Celtic over the weekend and is free to speak with rival clubs, though Leeds stand to receive compensation for him whether he joins an English club or moves abroad. FIFA regulations state that a fee is due when a “professional is transferred between clubs of two different associations (whether during or at the end of his contract) before the end of the season of his 23rd birthday.” White’s exit from Elland Road has seemed likely ever since he rejected an initial offer put to him last year but major question marks are hanging over club captain Robert Snodgrass after comments made by him at a community event at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Monday.
Snodgrass is weighing up an enhanced contract which would make him United’s highest earner but he is far from decided about whether to accept the wage rise, admitting to doubts about pledges of investment in the squad at Leeds this summer and a promise by Warnock to find the Scotland international a move to the Premier League next year if Leeds fail to win promotion during the forthcoming season.Warnock has suggested that he might retain Snodgrass until at least Christmas regardless of whether he accepts a new deal but the 24-year-old is out of contract in a year’s time and his financial value would drop rapidly during the remainder of his deal.
Snodgrass said: “He (Warnock) has already said he won’t be sticking around as manager for much longer. Who knows whether he’s got one or two more years left at Leeds?
“If it’s one year and I don’t sign the contract then I’ll be free next year. If I do sign I’d have another year left and be in the same situation I am now.
“So it’s alright for him to say he could get me a move but if he leaves then the people up above him in the football club are not going to worry about what he said.
“My future doesn’t lie in the hands of Neil Warnock, it’s in the hands of Robert Snodgrass.
“The chairman (Ken Bates) is trying to put a bit of pressure on me. He’s telling me what plans he’s got for the club. But they told me the same type of plans the season before and it didn’t work out. So it’s hard to buy into these things again.”A more positive piece of news is the prospect of defender Tom Lees agreeing an improvement to a contract which already runs until 2015. United opened negotiations with Lees earlier this month with the aim of bringing the 21-year-old’s salary in line with some of their more substantial earners and he is close to putting pen to paper after further talks last week. www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/latest-whites-news/leeds-united-a-frustrating-may-for-neil-warnock-1-4576482

Alqpr81, telling it like it is. Words of truth, my friend, words of truth. I knew at some point Warnock would revert to type. Leopard and spots springs readily to mind. Sad but true me old mucker...it really is a shame to be honest. He could have continued the embers of his career with dignity and retained the status he had with us, but I'm afraid that would include recognising his laundry list of management flaws during his Premiership tenure with us. Unfortunately it would appear that Neil is not the kind of person to admit when he's wrong. About anything. ...and then he went to Leeds. Oh dear. Mate, its always someone else's fault with Warnock. There is a genuine reason why he's despised by the vast majority of football fans in this country. People don't get reputations by accident. Now, that said, are we grateful for Warnock for being in charge of the club season before last and getting us promoted? Yes, of course. But just because he got us here (with a huge slice of help from Taarabt) doesn't mean that TF was supposed to grant him the keys to LR when it was clear he was out of his depth at this level, incapable of winning tactical battles against other Prem managers and had lost the dressing room with many of the senior players. My beef with a lot of the Warnock love was this nonsensical belief that Warnock should have been kept on despite the fact that it was blatantly clear by about the Liverpool game at Anfield that his current spell in the Prem was going to end in exactly the same way as all his others. Like you say, Al, if someone is not up to the job you get rid. You cannot just keep them out of sentiment and misplaced loyalty just because they did something really good in the past. To me, Warnock is like the kid that is a really good Karaoke pub singer and wins all these prizes when he enters pub competitions. So, he thinks he's a really good singer and he goes on Pop Idol. Where he comes up against people who really can sing. And he gets voted off by Simon Cowell who tells him he's not good enough to sing at this level. But he still thinks to himself that he's won all these Karaoke competitions so he must be as good as all the singers he sees on TV. So he goes on the X-Factor. And Cheryl Cole tells him he's not good enough. But he's won all these pub singing contests so he really must be as good as the guys he listens to on his mates CD's. So he goes on The Voice... And still he cannot understand why he never makes it to the grand final and believes that its because no one wants to give him a fair crack at it... The kid is never going to accept the truth. Sadly, I fear, neither will Warnock.

Can't think of any other manager in world football that could have promoted us in those circumstances.
For me I will always love the Warnock of QPR, not the Warnock of Palace, Leeds, Sheffield Utd etc. If that makes sense....
Regarding that article above, I would take Ross McCormack on a cheap transfer. Think he's a quality player who is still very young.

However, that's his level I'm afraid and no matter how much you or I would like it to be different that, unfortunately, is the way it is. I made no secret of my desire for Hughes once I felt he needed to be replaced so I knew exactly what I wanted. I make no apologies about wanting him sacked when I believed that was the only way that I thought we'd have a chance of staying in the Premier League. Just because I was cheering when he took us up doesn't mean I must blind myself to his shortcomings once we were in this league and struggling. Liverpool won the FA Cup this season and Dalglish still got sacked despite being a Liverpool legend and pulling them away from the relegation zone last season when they sacked Hodgson. Being grateful to a manager for his past acheivements doesn't grant him immunity from the hook when things start going wrong, Maude.

I agree with you 100% about Barton. I think Hughes wants him out so will be interesting to see what the club do next. My gut feeling is that there is no statement as they are now looking into the legal position on being able to terminate his contract. If that is the case then making a comment now would be futile because, really, what could they say? As for Warnock, I hope he does well for Leeds as they are a big club that need something good to happen for them. I said on here at the time that I thought it was a job he should take. We are not in their division so it doesn't affect me either way. But its time to move on now for all parties concerned. The past is the past. Its done now and cannot be undone. The future is yet to be writ.

His three away wins don't look so bad now, considering they were the only away wins we got. It's just a shame that he only added one further win in the 20-odd games he had in charge.

And all those promotions he achieved at all those different clubs: What a complete FLOP indeed yes, YES! he has done it all by himself. it had nothing to do with the squad, the millions of pounds spent, adel tarrabt, warnkock recieved the ball from the dugout, threw it down the line, chased after it, went round 3 watford players and stroked it into the back of the net. publicly humiliated several players? waving email addresses of fans on match of the day? cconstantly admiring opposition subs bench? losing 4=0 to bolton losing 6- to fulham response ? "enjoying being in the prem league" taking control of training for two days a week. leavig the ever popular jd and vodka swigging curle in charge for 3 days training each week. noooooooo none of that ever happened. hope you have a great time in the championship next season macmosh, am sure warnkock fc will apreciate your support and will email you a big thank you! ;D

QPR spent 15 years outside the Premiership. Neil Warnock saved us and the took us up. And nothing you can say...None of your disparagements will change that.
As for the Championship: The one who is absolutely obsessed with the Championship and a certain manager is clearlyyourself.
