BBC Manchester City 'best value for money' for fans Manchester City has won the Premier League title, and is also top of the league of value for fans, according to the ING Direct Value table. The bank chart compares club season ticket costs with Premier League performance and entertainment value and getting the most points for your pound. ING places QPR, who just avoided relegation, at the bottom of the table.Wigan, who had a great escape from relegation, are second best value, and West Bromwich Albion third. Second bottom was Liverpool, whose eighth place finish in the top flight, Carling Cup triumph, and FA Cup final place were not enough to counteract a high season ticket cost and poor scoring record. And Wolves found themselves in both the official and value relegation zones. The value league was compiled by comparing season ticket prices with points earned, and with a bonus for goals scored, deemed to affect fans' enjoyment of the game. Ticket prices frozen Just under half of fans felt they received good value for money in the 2011-12 season just ended, and as a result are seriously thinking about whether or not to renew their season ticket for the next campaign. Continue reading the main story ING Direct 'Football Value League' 1. Man City 2. Wigan 3. West Brom 4. Man Utd 5. Norwich However it seems that clubs are listening to their concerns, with more than half of Premiership teams (12 of the 20) freezing or lowering their season ticket prices this year in an attempt to retain fans. Relegated Blackburn Rovers has the most disgruntled fans - many of whom have staged protests in the past season against Indian owners Venky's and manager Steve Kean - with more than half of ticket holders (56%) saying they will not renew. Aston Villa, who just dodged relegation and recently sacked manager Alex McLeish, had a third of fans (31%) saying they planned to cancel their tickets. Two-thirds of supporters (67%) also say that a wage cap for Premier League footballers would be a positive move. Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie topped the "best value player" poll, followed by Newcastle United striker Demba Ba and Tottenham's Scott Parker. The report's compilation was overseen by Dr Steve Kelly from the University of Huddersfield, an expert in sports and club finance and structures. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18115990

Liverpool Echo
Everton FC out perform rivals Liverpool in the top flight’s league of best value by Greg O'Keeffe, Liverpool Echo May 22 2012 EVERTON FC have out-performed Liverpool in the top flight’s league of best value. While the Toffees achieved a ninth-placed finish in the table, their city rivals find themselves second from bottom. However, both Merseyside clubs have players rated as amongst the ‘most valuable’ – Leighton Baines and Charlie Adam – in the league. The ING Direct Value League, compiled each season by the bank, compares clubs’ season ticket costs with their Premier League performance and entertainment value. And this is the first time since the Value League began that the team that topped this league, Manchester City, also won the Premier League, with success usually tied to an expensive ticket. On the opposite end of the Value League, QPR sit in 20th place after only just staying up. Wolves also found themselves in both the official and value relegation zones, accompanied by Liverpool, whose eighth place finish in the division wasn’t enough to counteract a high season ticket cost and poor scoring record. The bank started the Value League as many of its customers save for their season ticket throughout the year. They found that less than half of fans surveyed felt they received good value for money this season (49 per cent), and as a result nearly one in three (29 per cent) are seriously thinking about whether or not to renew their season ticket next year. And it seems that clubs are aware of the tough economic times and fans’ discontent, with more than half (12 of the 20) of Premiership teams freezing or lowering their season tickets prices this year in an attempt to retain fans. But for some clubs it may be a case of too little too late, with large numbers of fans walking away regardless of price. Blackburn has the most disgruntled fans, with more than half of ticket holders (56 per cent) saying they won’t renew. Aston Villa followers are also voicing their concern, with a third of fans (31 per cent) saying they plan to cancel their tickets. And with some players earning more than 300 times as much as an average season ticket holder’s wages, two thirds (67%) say that a wage cap for Premier League footballers would be a positive move. www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/everton-fc/everton-fc-news/2012/05/22/everton-fc-out-perform-rivals-liverpool-in-the-top-flight-s-league-of-best-value-100252-31018198/#ixzz1va9CSjiS

Those five wins on the spin were value for for money! Can't see how three relegated clubs, especially Wolves, can rank above us.

Agree CPR don't make sense , I would have thought those 10 reds made us pretty good value for money ; Also apart from the fact we didn't finish in the bottom three we beat Spurs ,Arsenal,Chelsea and Liverpool and the League leaders nearly twice ,doubt the ones just above us had the same results?

What gets me is that QPR fans have a particular type of humour. Probably because of the crap of the last 16 years, but even on the worst topics, the dry humour can be found.

Well....! By talkSPORT magazine | Tuesday, May 22, 2012 The ING Direct Value League, compiled each season by the bank, looks at which Premier League clubs offer the best value season tickets based on criteria compiled by comparing season ticket prices with league points earned, together with a bonus for goals scored that directly affected fans’ enjoyment of the game. As tghey say in the classics there are lies, damned lies and statistics. If nothing else this proves that anybody can compare a set of numbers against another set of numbers to prove a point.
In this case all they have done is taken the ticket prices and compared it to the final league standings and hey presto you have "value for money". Well bounce!!! In any league season it will stand to reason that most clubs finishing at the bottom of the division will be rated as least value for money, while thsoe finishing near the top will more often than not be rated as good value.
Wow such a scientific experiment - even 10 years could have done that. And don't be fooled by the red herring - bonus points for goals scored. How about total goals scored for the whole season at that stadium for both home & away teams?
You also need to add in other factors such as average salaries earned and cost of living in that area, if this is a newly promoted side (and one that has never played in the EPL before - or hasn't been there for a long time), comfort of facilities, safety factors, ease of getting tickets on match day, public transport and parking facilities around the stadium, prces of merchandise and food etc, etc.
Then you start getting a more meaningful set of stats.
Look don't get me wrong - I truly believe that QPR's ticket prices are unacceptably high (and for that we say No Thanks to those 3 greedy clowns who were supposed to be in charge before TF took over) when you consider the state of the stadium and comapred to what our main rivals in the area charge - and while the price freeze will help it doens't alter the fact that the ticket proces are still unacceptably high.
But at the same time I don't think there is anything scientific about this survey. In my view this is a case of hashing out two sets of numbers that may or may not have something in common, adding a bonus set of numbers and then pretend that this is a meaningful exercise.

It is a bit crude... it's little more than relating admission prices to finishing position. In all honesty and thinking of the season as a whole, we were asked to pay "Harrods" prices to watch quite a lot of "Lidl" football.
