Linked to Southampton - but guess we could take him if we wanted him (and he wanted us)...Any similar like Central defenders? unday September 2 2012 Del Piero to Southampton? By Football Italia staff There are shock reports that Southampton have joined Sion and Sydney FC in tempting Alessandro Del Piero. The Juventus legend is a free agent after his contract expired, ending a 20-year reign in Turin. Australians Sydney FC and Swiss side Sion have emerged as the most likely contenders for his signature. However, today La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Southampton have made an audacious bid for Del Piero. They have proposed a two-year contract worth €1m per season, plus performance-related bonuses. He has always said he’d like to experience the Premier League and would be the second big Serie A ‘get’ for the Saints after taking Gaston Ramirez from Bologna on transfer deadline day. It is also reported the Sydney FC directors are flying out to Italy today and want an answer by Tuesday. Del Piero is one of several free agents still without a club, including ex-Fiorentina goalkeeper Artur Boruc, Milan full-back Gianluca Zambrotta, World Cup winner Fabio Grosso and the likes of Massimo Mutarelli, Simone Barone, Alex Manninger, Per Kroldrup, David Suazo and Simone Loria. Del Piero’s Number 10 jersey had been reserved for the ‘top player,’ but Nicklas Bendtner has not been considered worthy of that honour. The ex-Arsenal striker has been handed the Number 17 shirt for this season, once worn by David Trezeguet. Curiously, the number 17 is considered to be unlucky in Italy. www.football-italia.net/24609/del-piero-southampton

Thought the transfer window was closed so Del Piero couldn't come to the EPL. How would he be able to come?

Thought the transfer window was closed so Del Piero couldn't come to the EPL. How would he be able to come? Unattached players can still move, so long as they became unattached before the end of the window (or something like that.....)

If Joey Barton completes his ban in France and is in form will he be playing for QPR next season?
I don't think so but he will be worth a whole lot more than he does today.

He'll have to serve the ban for the remaining games when he gets back. I think it's 9 matches remaining.

Apparently the FA are insisting the ban be served in France so he won't be playing until mid November.

Yes I read a couple of days back that they would ask the french FA to impose the ban on their behalf but haven't seen anything since. I think the French FA would have to agree to that and can't see them doing so, unless they've said yes already, hehe.

We could do with another CB, right back or defensive midfielder. A free agent it obviously has to be then. Thanks to those who answered my question regarding free agents, by the way.

Don't think we need any more additions especially del Pierro. Not that that wouldn't stop Fernandes improving the brand by bringing him in!
