MOST IMPORTANT APPOINTMENT YET - CHAIRMAN
Ken Bates on Neil Warnock appointment...United chairman Ken Bates has welcomed the appointment of Neil Warnock as the club's new manager. Warnock was confirmed as the club's new manager on Saturday morning and he has agreed a deal until the end of the 2012/13 season. "Neil flew out to Monaco on Friday morning and we spent about six hours together," the chairman told Yorkshire Radio. "We discussed all aspects of the club, the squad, and we shook hands on a deal about 6pm before he flew home. "He's confident. We go back a long way. I first tried to recruit him as manager when I was at Chelsea. I said to him it won't be long before people are referring to us as the odd couple. "He has a proven record, he knows what it takes, and he gets value for money out of players. Saturday is an important game, but there's still 42 points to play for after that and it's anybody's race. It's like when won promotion from League One with clubs knocking each other about a bit. "This gives us a fresh start with a fresh attitude, and the players have to prove to the new manager they are worthy of playing for Leeds United." The chairman described it as the most important managerial appointment he has made since arriving at Leeds in January 2005. "It is," he said. "We've got everything else right, we're one of the most progressive clubs in the league, when you read about the troubles at others clubs which are coming out almost daily. "We're stable, we have a good squad, a big squad, and an experienced manager and hopefully this is the last piece in the jigsaw to take us back where we belong." The chairman also paid tribute to Under-18s coach Neil Redfearn, who took on the managerial role on a temporary basis. "Neil has done very well," added the chairman. "I spoke to him on Saturday morning to thank him for what he's done. He'll go back to probably an enhanced position at Thorp Arch under the organisation that we're putting in and reviewing." www.leedsunited.com/news/20120218/most-important-appointment-yet-chairman_2247585_2615371LEEDS OFFICIAL SITE
NEIL'S WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE
What does our new manager bring?Neil Warnock takes over as new Leeds United manager this weekend boasting a wealth of experience. Neil is in his 25th year of management in the league, having first guided to Scarborough to promotion to the Football League back in 1987. During that time, the 63-year-old has managed nine clubs and has won a whopping seven promotions since guiding Scarborough to the first ever Conference Championship trophy. Neil's most recent achievement was guiding Queens Park Rangers to the Premier League last season, a feat he also achieved with Sheffield United in 2005/06, via the Play-Offs. Neil has proved something of a promotion specialist throughout his career and he also enjoyed double success at Notts County, where he lifted the club two divisions to the top-flight in 1991, and he also won promotion via the Play-Offs at both Huddersfield and Plymouth Argyle. Neil is perhaps best known to Leeds fans for his eight-year stint at Sheffield United and while at Bramall Lane, he guided the Blades to both the FA Cup semi-final and the League Cup semi-final. They also reached the Play-Offs in 2003 when they were unsuccessful. As a player, Neil made around 400 league appearances and after starting with Chesterfield he had stints with Rotherham United, Hartlepool United, Sc**thorpe United, Aldershot, Barnsley, York City and Crewe Alexandra. From there, he first cut his teeth in management at Gainsborough and Burton Albion before moving on to Scarborough. www.leedsunited.com/news/20120218/neils-wealth-of-experience_2247585_2615275

May not like Leeds. But I think they are a "Bigger" team than QPR.
(Now it probably won't help Warnock much because even if he gets them up - which I think he will - they're going to want a bigger manager. Say someone like Mark Hughes...which means Hughes could go to Leeds after Warnock success...and Warnock could return to us, after Hughes failure!)

Leeds wont come up this year , theres more chance of us getting to europe , as it stands at ht they cant even beat the Leagues whipping boys , theres a big job to do at Leeds before they come up and a few loans wont make the difference ! Reading will make the playoffs again though like last year , would rather they beat Swansea in last years final if honest .

Not really , the team is quite poor in certain areas now espacially midfield , lost some decent midfielders , have Townsend on loan from Spurs who just scored but still to weak in that area as we know ourselves weak midfield sh1t results , letting in 2 goals at home to Donny , defence aint alot either , lets not forget they lost to Coventry a bottom three team last week and Brighton before that . I'M not saying NW wont get them in the playoffs next year , but this year forget it!

Warnock took the same team that was headed for the Third Division and in those 15 or so game before the end of the season, we were good. And with just 3 or 4 additions, the next year we were great. So yes I think he can do it.
And the sleaze/slime we were spreading around some outrageous stuff as the reason we were not doing well this season. Well I imagine, the Warnock and his coaches way at Leeds will be the same as it was as QPR this season. And last season.

Neil Warnock: I gave half-time team talkBy Barney Corkhill, Reporter www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/leeds-united/news/warnock-i-gave-half-time-team-talk_17019.htmlNew Leeds United manager Neil Warnock has confirmed that he gave the half-time team talk that inspired the Whites' dramatic 3-2 comeback win over rivals Doncaster on Saturday. Warnock was watching from the stands after his appointment earlier in the day, but saw his new club go 2-0 down before they embarked upon their thrilling comeback. "I couldn't resist going down at half time if I'm honest. I'm not a stand man," the former Queens Park Rangers boss told Sky Sports News. "I thought they did well. We changed formation just after half time and I thought it worked well if I'm honest. "Credit to them, a lot of teams might have given up. But 2-0 down, it got the atmosphere going." Warnock will be looking to make Leeds the eighth different team he has achieved promotion with in his managerial career. Football 365
Warnock targets play-off pushNew Leeds boss Neil Warnock is targeting the play-offs after watching the Whites' thrilling 3-2 win over Doncaster at Elland Road on Saturday. Warnock delivered pep talks to the players before the game and again at half-time, and saw them fight back from 2-0 behind early in the second half to pinch a last-gasp winner. The former QPR boss watched the action from the stands after being unveiled as the new Leeds manager in the morning, as caretaker boss Neil Redfearn took charge of the team for the final time. Redfearn looked to be guiding them to a third straight npower Championship defeat when a double from Mamadou Bagayoko either side of half-time put Rovers 2-0 up. But the two-goal deficit lasted just a minute before Andros Townsend pulled one back, Adam Clayton levelled 10 minutes from the end and Luciano Becchio sealed the points in the ninth minute of stoppage time. Warnock said: "I thought they did well. We changed formation at half-time, or just after, and I thought it worked well. "All credit to them, a lot of teams might have given up, but at 2-0 down it got the atmosphere going." Leeds stand 10th in the table, three points behind sixth-placed Birmingham, who have played two fewer games than the Yorkshire side. Warnock is aiming high, and when asked about aiming for the play-offs he told Sky Sports News: "I think anything can happen. I think we're a long way from being a top side, if I'm honest, but the lads have got spirit and they showed that today to come back from 2-0 down. "So (there are) 14 games (to play), everybody's trying to help everybody else aren't they, because no-one's running away with it, so you never say never do you?" The drama did not stop at the final whistle, as police and stewards had to intervene in an altercation in the tunnel. Redfearn revealed Warnock, who has signed a contract to the end of next season, had been impressive in the dressing room. Redfearn said: "Neil had a big impact. He came in at half-time and made a few points. It was sensible advice in the situation we were in. "He said they should be a bit more positive, with more energy, and play higher up the pitch. There was no ranting and raving. "Our second-half performance was more like it. We got about them and the crowd responded." Redfearn, who took over when Simon Grayson was sacked at the start of the month, will return to his role in the academy. But he was full of praise for chairman Ken Bates' choice. "The appointment of Neil Warnock is fantastic for the club," Redfearn said. "He has a track record of getting teams out of this division and these are exciting times." Doncaster took a 32nd-minute lead through the first of Bagayoko's two goals. Andy Lonergan raced out to dive at the feet of the on-rushing James Hayter who was played through by El-Hadji Diouf. The Leeds goalkeeper could only push the ball towards Bagayoko who stroked it into an unguarded net. Bagayoko had replaced the injured Habib Bamogo whose earlier backheel came back off a post. Watching on would have become more painful for Warnock who saw Hayter strike the Leeds bar after 49 minutes - and five minutes later Tommy Spurr's cross was controlled by Diouf for Bagayoko to score from inside the six-yard box. It needed a rapid response and Townsend provided it inside a minute with an unstoppable shot from the left, with Becchio the creator. Becchio and Ross McCormack were denied by vital saves from Button and after American winger Robbie Rogers left the bench for his home debut, Leeds equalised with 10 minutes left. Robert Snodgrass broke down the left and his low centre was swept past Button by Clayton from eight yards. Rogers and Spurr were stretchered off just before the end after an accidental clash of heads, leading to more than 10 minutes of stoppage time, during which Becchio had the last say with a curling strike from 20 yards. Doncaster boss Dean Saunders did not attend the post-match press conference. www.football365.com/championship/7530937/Warnock-targets-play-off-push

(Obviously my error, when I wrote were 0-2 at HT Talk) GUARDIAN Neil Warnock appointed Leeds manager until end of next season • Former Sheffield United manager heads to Elland Road • Warnock faces tough task to revive flagging promotion hopes Share 46 reddit this Jamie Jackson Leeds United's players marked the appointment of Neil Warnock as the club's new manager with a stirring comeback from two goals down to beat Doncaster 3-2 in the Championship. Warnock, who watched the match from the stands at Elland Road but addressed the players before the game and at half-time, was named as the replacement for Simon Grayson early on Saturday. He pledged to mastermind a quick return to the Premier League – both for Leeds and for himself, after his sacking by Queens Park Rangers last month. Warnock, who met the Leeds chairman Ken Bates in Monaco during the week to discuss his 18-month contract, said: "I feel I have one big challenge left in me and believe Leeds is a club that should be in the Premier League. I want to be the man who is able to deliver this for a set of fans who never cease to amaze me with their numbers and their loyalty. "Having met with Ken it was an easy decision to take up the challenge and, with his support, we share the same vision of getting Leeds United in the Premier League." Saturday's three points took Leeds to 10th in the Championship and just three points off the play-offs, and Bates pledged to provide the financial backing for Warnock to take the club on. Bates said: "We want to be in the Premier League and we will support Neil in the quest to get us there. We believe the appointment is arguably the most important we have made. The objective was to appoint a manager who had a proven track record of getting teams promoted and, in Neil, we have a man whose record is second to none." Before winning the Championship last season with QPR, Warnock had previously led Sheffield United and Notts County to promotion to the top flight. Leeds confirmed the 63-year-old will be able to appoint his own backroom staff. Neil Redfearn, who had been placed in temporary charge after Grayson's departure, was in the dugout for the win over Doncaster, but is now set to return to his role with the Leeds academy. Warnock, often as controversial a figure as his new chairman, was welcomed by the head of the Leeds' supporters' club. Ray Fell told Sky: "He's a man who can motivate us and reopen our season. He'll give us experience and get the most out of the players, which for the last period hasn't been happening." Writing in his Saturday newspaper column before his appointment was announced, Warnock hinted that Leeds would be the 13th club of his 32-year managerial career by stating there were "possibilities cropping up that may offer the chance to get back into the game" including "one of the top six clubs in England in Leeds." He made clear that managing below the Premier League would be no problem. "If I do take a job it's got to be at a club that gets me excited and gets the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up. That's the type of job that keeps me going and all three I have mentioned fit that bill. "It doesn't really bother me which division I manage in – I'm not one to say I have to be in the Premier League. There are plenty of good clubs outside it." Leeds's dismal first-half performance against Doncaster may have been what prompted Warnock's unexpected half-time intervention, but his words initially seemed to have had little effect, Mamadou Bagayoko quickly following up his first-half opener with a second after the break. That prompted another outpouring of dissent from the stands, with Leeds's fans renewing their attacks on Bates over a perceived lack of investment. Doncaster's fans, meanwhile – no friends of Warnock after his long stint in charge of their local rivals Sheffield United – joined in, taunting him from their position next to the directors' box. However Leeds turned it around. A minute after Bagayoko's second, Luciano Becchio fumbled his way into the box, the ball fell to Andros Townsend and he placed a crisp drive beyond David Button. Becchio then drew a low save out of Button, after Robert Snodgrass's cross, before the keeper saved at the feet of Ross McCormack. The momentum was now all with Leeds and when they equalised with 10 minutes remaining it had been coming. Snodgrass fizzed a cross in from the left and Adam Clayton arrived in the box to stab the ball beyond Button on the volley. But that was not the end of the drama. After a lengthy delay after an injury to Robbie Rogers, Becchio curled in a dramatic 20-yard winner. Redfearn said Warnock had made an impression in the dressing room. "Neil had a big impact. He came in at half-time and made a few points. It was sensible advice in the situation we were in. "He said they should be a bit more positive, with more energy, and play higher up the pitch. There was no ranting and raving. Our second-half performance was more like it. We got about them and the crowd responded." Redfearn, who took over when Simon Grayson was sacked, said: "The appointment of Neil Warnock is fantastic for the club. He has a track record of getting teams out of this division and these are exciting times." The defeat leaves Doncaster bottom, having failed to win any of their last five league games and none in eight away from home. They have taken only one away point since a 3-2 victory at Ipswich on 5 November. www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/feb/18/neil-warnock-leeds-manager

Honest truth - our loss and Leeds' gain and I wouldn't be surprised if he achieves promotion no 8 with Leeds - possibly this season but more likely next season.
Good luck I wasn't surprised he opted for them - I don't particularly hate Leeds - and I think he will do well.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST - NEIL 19 Feb 2012 New manager's delight at United welcome... New Leeds United manager Neil Warnock firmly believes he has joined one of the biggest clubs in the country. Warnock was confirmed as the club's new manager on Saturday lunchtime after agreeing a contract until the end of the 2012/13 season. The former Sheffield United boss, who has won seven promotions during his career, was also being heavily linked with the vacant managerial positions at Wolves and Huddersfield. But after being confirmed as the new Leeds boss he arrived at Elland Road on Saturday and he immediately had an input into the 3-2 win against Doncaster Rovers which he watched from the stands. "It was a fantastic welcome on Saturday, from turning up at the ground and seeing all the supporters," said the new manager, who parted company with his previous club QPR just six weeks ago, less than 12 months after leading them to the Premier League. "Over the last few days that's been the big pull for me. I've never been so popular which is unusual for me! It was great to be wanted by a number of clubs, but the crowd here has always been special and I just felt it was the right club both in terms of what I was looking for and what they were looking for, and it could be a good mix. " I've not slept for a few days, I thought I was going to one place and then another, and then I went to Monaco on Friday and talked to the chairman. He was very positive in what he said and I think he understood where I was coming from as well so rather than delaying things we decided to get it done. "We were going to leave it a couple of days, but I felt if I was coming it was important that I was there against Doncaster and have an input, and I was glad I was there."The move to Elland Road represents a return to Yorkshire for Warnock, who has already managed Scarborough, Huddersfield Town, and Sheffield United in the White Rose county. "This is a fantastic club," he said. "The club itself must be one of the top half a dozen in the country. There's no local rivals, it's a one club city and it's got everything. "I enjoyed myself at QPR and it broke my heart when I left, but it was a similar situation when I took over there because some of the fans were 'well, we didn't really want you Warnock, but we're glad you've come.'"Yorkshire people are like that and I think they appreciate straight people who give it their best. I'll do that and I feel I have something to contribute to the club." Warnock is viewed as one of the great characters of the game and he could be seen on his feet in the old directors box at Elland Road on Saturday when Luciano Becchio fired home a late, late winner to sink Doncaster. "I manage with a lot of energy, it's the way I am," he said. "My demands of the players are very strict, but I enjoy it and I want to enjoy it, and as long as I am enjoying it I'm going to manage. If I stop enjoying it I will call it a day. "I want to be at a club like this. I can't remember jumping as high for a third goal as I did on Saturday. It was good, talking to the players before and at half-time and getting a response." I hope Neil does his duty to football and takes them down to non-league.
