I actually didn't think we were that bad. Considering we had 4 key players missing and Derry was scared to make a tackle after his booking. I thought we deserved a point. Not because Newcastle were bad. But because we tried to keep our shape and defensively we never really gave them much of a chance. They shut up shop in the 2nd half. But with us hitting the post twice. It could have very easily been us who went 1 up and held on.

Your post is cheering me up a bit Superkat, but remember that most teams are two or three down, this time of year, and by the end of january we may have dropped another 6 points, thus leaving us the best team in the Championship.

We can't seem to do that...Its warnock syndrome...we'll be "the best" team to ever get relgated at this rate seeing as we seem to be the better team In every game but still lose. We are rock bottom of the form table, by some way the worst team In the league, newcastle didnt turn up but beat us. Just got to pray for signings its all we can do now.

Did you really feel like our players were fighting for survival out there though? We looked slow, unfit, and not bothered out there, even in the last few minutes there was no urgency at all from anyone. Frustrating against such a poor team in newcastle.

Our squad is thinner than a supermodel's lunchbox MH has said that he wants to bring in players that will make an immediate impact. WHich makes perfect sense to me. He knows where the problem areas are. I thnk we were only 1 or 2 players away from getting something today. But would need at least 5 to see us avoid relegation. We need them quick. Its going to be hard to persuade quality premiership players to come if they think we're going to get relegated. Can almost see the likes of Samba, Alex, Pienaar, Onuocha running a mile.

If comments are to be believed that is something that is being addressed and we will get fitter with each game. MH has also arrived when we don't have a decent midfield. That is what concerns me. If he doesn't get a midifelder in. Would be interesting to see how he deals with this. However with the money he and his staff are reported to be getting. I would expect him to be able to deal with this.

Add when you think the way we played at Liverpool with all those players available for that game , it was a dull ,sort of scared performance , not like todays at least we gave it a go. Not sure you'd expect anything else H...even for a caretaker...plus was that team any different to what we think NW would have picked? I think SA is just saying this is going to be about strengthening the squad not a tactical masterstroke. Maybe just maybe it will be a mixture of the two ? When a new Manager comes he normally keeps the same team pretty much anyway ! What i didnt like about the post was the 'If TF thought all he had to do was change the coach would be solved . Dont think he took that decision too lightly , still remaining friends of sorts with NW and he was trying to give himself the best chance of staying up and under NW there was some cracks appearing . I just hope we all pull together as a unit with Tony Fernandes and Mark Hughes over the next 17 games thats all.

Watching swansea v arsenal the gulf in class between us and swansea is frightening.... What annoys me is every throwin , every loose ball, swansea are running to get the ball and attack, they know and beleive they can beat anyone, that's what we lack In spades.

We may have had 16 shots...A couple went close...But not required Newcastle goalie saves... We tried hard...But I agree we looked relegation... Yes we miss players..But if don't strengthen think may well go down. And that is not a critique of Hughes (or Warnock)...Seen us play a lot better including the home game vs Newcastle..And no Newcastle weren't very good.

I said this before today's game and I still believe it
It was already too late to avoid relegation rgardless of whether its Hughes or Warnock
No money till August then panic buying during the very end of the close season Way too many dropped points during the winable games - because you can't mould a team in a week Predictable failure against the top sides run of games No clarity of formation or consistent selection - umpteen players used compared with other clubs Turbulence of change of manager - questionable to say the least No players signed yet - who can blame them; why join a relegation fight Top player out for the season, 2 key players away for a month, club captain suspended Simply no time to rebuild the team - games already running out The last 10 fixtures against all the top sides - last game away to Man City
There needs to be three worse teams than us to avoid the drop - and right now there aren't, only Bolton looks terminal. So he can't rely on other poor teams; realistically, Hughes will have to work with what he has, improve consistently - and start from 18th;
Hughes was a bold play by Fernandes, it may have come a month too late.
If he succeeds he will be truly a marvel, but if I were him, I would be preparing for Plan B in the Championship - and, heresy to state - that may not be a bad thing.
Summer clear out and build your own team
Sad to say but Neil was undone by boardroom turbulence and inabilty to complete a decent premiership team jigsaw from hastily assembled components
One is left with the underlying question - might he have done better to stick to the promotion side, Gorkks and all....

Yep Rodgers and Lambert i hate to say have done very well with there Squads and have them up for the fight every damn week something we never looked like . Not many superstars in their teams but they perform . If we go down we will have to do a West Brom , the year they came up as Champions , Stoke and Hull survived but the Champs went down and came up the next year. However WBA stuck with there Manager Mowbray the whole season and he took them down , maybe just maybe the change might save us .
No doubting we need Players and no doubting the team on paper should have more than 17 points in my view , we havnt battled enough and sometimes we had fear against the top teams that Swansea and Norwichs Managers somehow seem to remove from their players .

I'll agree with you on the fit part. We looked tired the last 20 minutes, and im expecting Hughes will correct that with a bit of time. All things considered today's result was better than i expected. I thought we were in for spanking.

A "wounded" midfield did cost us the game today. Derry is far too slow and after his booking it was always going to be a game against the wall for us. Hopefully we will be able to bring in a quicker midfielder this week or next.
