Hughes concerned by QPR's ambition Jan 9 2012 By Jacob Murtagh
Mark Hughes
QPR will hold further talks with Mark Hughes tomorrow in a bid to persuade the Welshman to become their new manager.
Rangers held initial discussions with the former Blackburn, Fulham and Manchester City boss and his representative, Kia Joorabchian, this afternoon after sacking Neil Warnock yesterday.
However, the 48-year-old insists nothing has been agreed, and will return to Loftus Road in the morning to have more discussions.
He said: “Talks are progressing. We're still discussing the ideas that the club has, and I've got to think carefully what's been said today and we'll come back in the morning.
“There's a will, maybe, to get to where we both feel comfortable at what's ahead. It's about discussing things and the desire of where they want to get to as a football club.”
Hughes walked out on Fulham last year, citing a lack of ambition for his decision to quit Craven Cottage.
And he insists he needs to be convinced Rangers are a club that are going places under Tony Fernandes.
Hughes added: “That's one of the factors that concerns me. I'm an ambitious manager and hopefully the next job I have the club can match those ambitions that I have for myself.
“I've got to be clear in my mind that this is the right decision for me, and obviously Queens Park Rangers have to be comfortable in their own mind as well.”

I thought that as well Maude. Personally I think the deal is done but it will be unveiled tomorrow after he has met the players and the other coaches have arrived in London.

Mails take on it ? Hughes has positive QPR talks but no decision on if he'll succeed Warnock By Sportsmail Reporter Mark Hughes faces more talks with QPR tomorrow before he decides whether to succeed Neil Warnock as manager of the Barclays Premier League club. Hughes was at Loftus Road with advisor Kia Joorabchian on Monday for talks with chief executive Philip Beard about taking over at the west London club. He revealed the talks had gone well but he had not yet agreed to become the club's next manager. Former Wales, Manchester City, Blackburn and Fulham manager Hughes has been out of work since his departure from Craven Cottage in June. Heading back to the big time: Mark Hughes is set to be new QPR boss Although the likes of Gianfranco Zola, Rafael Benitez, Roberto Di Matteo, Sven-Goran Eriksson and Steve Bruce have been linked with the position, Hughes has been the leading candidate from the off. Asked if he had agreed to become the manager, Hughes said: 'We're not at that point at this moment. We are still discussing the ideas the club have and I have to think very carefully about what's been said today and overnight and then we will come back in the morning. 'I am pleased with how it's gone but nothing is confirmed yet. We still have a lot to discuss but it went really well today. We will see what happens,' he told reporters outside the club. 'There's a will to get to where we both feel comfortable with what's ahead. I have to be clear in my mind this is the right decision for me and QPR have to be confident in their own mind. Table toppers: Warnock celebrates winning the Championship with his players last year 'One factor that concerns me is that I am an ambitious manager and have to make sure the club meets those ambitions.' Hughes admitted he had liked what he was told. 'It's interesting what everyone here has had to say. It's an interesting project. There's still a lot to discuss but it went really well today.' Meanwhile, QPR striker Jay Bothroyd believes the appointment of Hughes would be 'tremendous'. Speaking on Twitter, Bothroyd said: 'Obviously sad to see the (manager) and Keith Curle go but Mark Hughes and his team would be a tremendous appointment.' Would have meant turning the floodlights on for all the publicity shots and they can't do that so come back in th morning for the photoshoot. Conversely, we are also not amibitous enough for him. Nice to be out of work but be able to hang out for barca or united innit....

"hughes - needs to be convinced we are going places."
well, going by my motto and trying to remain consistant i believe it should be hughes that needs to convince our club that he is the man for the job and not the other way round.

Fawning over a manager whose track record is average at best, and who failed at a club with a big budget, does not strike me as a club whose plans are big.

He's one of the best around , we wont attract Hiddink he is the best around , unless you want to try a Manager out of the game for a while a Hoddle / Curbishley , think we have to try our best to get Hughes , lets not forget we are a team on a 9 game run without a win , 4th from bottom of the League , even Norwich would be a better proposition than us at the minute , lets not get greedy , Hughes is a bigger name in the Premiership than Warnock his record aint that bad either lets get him in andsee what he can do , if we go down we go down but i wouldnt blame it on Hughes , we are in a bad way !

£20m is ok if we had a decent squad to build on but erm...£8m min for samba that's nearly half gone on 1 player, we still need a left back , replacement for faurlin and a striker at the minimum I think...going to be tight and Hughes isnt renowned for his penny pinching, at least at man city!

he will not join us unless there is in his opinion sufficient funds to buy players he feels he needs to survive through this season. there were people in there today and ears against walls.lol if you know what i mean and as i said not the kind of money in football terms to write home about but enough for now to keep hughes happy, for now. not much to think about just being kind to the recently departed but all done and dusted as far as being our manager is concerned. wont buy much for 20 million but wont be samba that is for sure he is probably joining spurs.
i believe 3-4 of his old players will be arriving some frees such as bridge and 1-2 loans with possability of purchase at end of.
Do believe, dont believe you will see but i believe we shall be see-ing 4-5 new players playing come the wigan match and frankly i cannot wait but some will be worried now as contracts or not some will be going come may for sure but i dont think dj or bothroyd will be going not had chance yet hughes will keep what he can but the likes of derry, orr, hill and kenny will more likely be gone
