It is interesting how for QPR - and most other clubs - the Manchester United fixture is THE BIG ONE (and certainly one of the big ones). And for Man Ut, this is just another "ho hum" game to try and get three points..

Your right on the Kieran Lee one too To me Man Utd seems as big as Chelsea probably because of where they are now and what they have achieved lately . MAN U , CHELSEA , LIVERPOOL will always be the big three games for me followed by SPURS ARSENAL !

Unknown to many modern Bees fans, Oscar Linkson was possibly one of the most successful Barnet players in terms of his career progress. Born in New Barnet in 1888, he was playing for Barnet Alston in 1907/08 when this photo was taken. He signed for Manchester United in 1908 (debut v. Notttingham Forest 24/10/08) and was a regular full back with them with 55 league and 4 F A Cup appearances, including their 1910/11 championship season. By 1913 he was with Shelbourne in Ireland and later QPR (war time season 1915/16). Oscar died in France in December 1916, aged 28 (killed in action). I was very pleased to hear from one of his descendants recently, researching her family history, and I was able to send the pictures I had.

In 1915 Oscar Linkson joined the Middlesex Regiment's "First Football Battalion" who were made up entirely of professional sportsmen, mostly from the football fields. On the 15th September 1915 he signed up to play with Queens Park Rangers , whilst not on active service, a team close to his battalion's base at Richmond Athletic Ground, but following public outcry the league was suspended and the men returned to battle. The Footballers Battalion formed part of the 2nd Division posted to the Western front in 1916. In late July they moved southward to the Somme taking part in the Battle of Delville Wood and the attempt to capture Guillemont. The first British effort to seize Guillemont on 8th August 1916 was described as "a debacle". That day Oscar disappeared in the field of battle. His death certificate simply states "death presumed". The war claimed the lives of 86 men of the First Football Battalion - thirty two were killed in action, nine died of wounds and forty five went missing. 117 were wounded and it is likely that most of them never graced the pitches again.

.Boss relishes QPR trip Sir Alex hopes United’s trip to Queens Park Rangers this Sunday proves as memorable as those he experienced in his first 10 years as Reds boss.
Trips to Loftus Road used to be commonplace – and United have a formidable record there under Sir Alex, losing just once in 11 games against the Hoops – but the Reds haven’t played the West London outfit since March 1996. QPR’s return to the top flight has triggered plenty of memories for the United manager, however, who told Inside United he’s relishing this weekend’s visit.
“It was always a great atmosphere at Loftus Road,” he said. “I remember we used to get a big allocation. We’d get the entire end behind one goal and then some more space around the side.
“The United fans, as you can imagine, loved that and would generate terrific noise. Loftus Road is one of those places where the fans feel as though they’re right on top of the pitch. We had some great nights there.”
Travelling Reds will be housed only in the School End this Sunday, but will number almost 3000 and provide vocal support for a United side intent on picking up three points. And although Sir Alex’s men beat Wolves 4-1 last weekend, it’s likely the manager will shuffle his pack again for this weekend’s trip to London.
“December is a particularly busy month when we often play eight or nine games,” he said. “We’ve got a Boxing Day Game, a New Year’s Eve game... it’s going to be a hectic spell and that’s when the squad really kicks in.”

9. Jackie Cape
Jackie Cape: (Carlisle 16.11.11) Manchester United, QPR, Carlisle United, Scarborough, RIP 1994.
From Toon1892
Jackie scored the only goal in the game that attracted St James's Park record attendance of 68,386 against Chelsea in September 1930.
Despite being a speedy winger with a decent strike rate, 20 goals in 53 games, he was not seen as being an automatic first team choice and following relegation he was not considered as part of the team that could fight for immediate promotion.
After spending three years at Manchester United, Jackie went to Queens Park Rangers where he retired after seven years service to them

Will QPR continue to feel the Manchester United backlash? Will Neil Warnock mastermind another scalp? Sir Alex Ferguson will have been delighted at the immediate response from his side following their shocking early exit from the Champions League. Manchester United brushed aside Wolves 4-1 at Old Trafford, adding an attacking verve to their display which had been missing in recent weeks. Importantly for United, star striker Wayne Rooney ended his eight-week Premier League goal drought with a brace and Ferguson will be hoping that his double strike is the start of a real scoring streak for the England man. The options at Ferguson’s disposal were underlined against Wolves by his decision to start with Antonio Valencia at the expense of Ashley Young, who had started the season so well. The recent return of Danny Welbeck from injury has also been a boost to United’s options. On the flip side though, United will be missing the services of their captain Nemanja Vidic, who suffered an injury against FC Basel during the Red Devils’ Champions League defeat. Although Ferguson has plenty of options, it is difficult to see Manchester United lining up much differently from their starting eleven against Wolves. The much-maligned David De Gea will start in goal, Ferguson perhaps believing that the young Spanish goalkeeper’s confidence will grow with games at this stage of his development. Meanwhile, the back four more of less picks itself, especially in the absence of Vidic. Jonny Evans will likely partner Rio Ferdinand at the heart of defence, with Chris Smalling and Patrice Evra either side of the defensive unit. Up front, in-form Rooney will probably find himself working with Danny Welbeck again. Midfield is the only real question mark in Ferguson’s selection. Phil Jones has made a starting place his own and he struck up a good understanding with Michael Carrick against Wolves, while Nani scored twice. The only real dilemma will be whether Valencia or Young get the nod. While on paper, the pundits will no doubt predict a comfortable victory for United, much will depend on which QPR turns up at Loftus Road. At times, Neil Warnock’s side have shown real promise and have been a match for some of the Premier League’s top sides, especially at the compact Loftus Road, where Rangers defeated Chelsea and pushed Manchester City all the way. On the other hand, they have also served up frustrating performances at home, failing to beat the likes of Blackburn Rovers, West Brom and Aston Villa. Their recent record has been patchy and Warnock will be nervously looking over his shoulder at the sides in the bottom reaches of the Premier League. QPR have their own injury worries going into the game. They are currently fielding their third choice goalkeeper in veteran Radek Cerny, although the Czech international produced an excellent display during the 1-0 defeat at Anfield last weekend. A big blow for Warno ck will be the loss of Anton Ferdinand at the heart of defence. The centre-back would have been relishing lining up against brother Rio, but pulled up during the outing to Liverpool. He will likely be replaced by Fitz Hall or Matt Connolly. The big question for Warnock will be whether he fields a 4-4-2 formation or a 4-5-1? QPR have employed both this season with varying success. Given United’s attacking ability, Warnock may look to play a lone striker and pack the midfield. He will hope that the excellent pairing of Joey Barton and Alejandro Faurlin can dominate the middle of the park, allowing Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jamie Mackie and possibly Tommy Smith the freedom to roam. If Rangers do play just one up front, Heidar Helguson will likely get the nod – The Icelandic striker has been in excellent form recently. On the other hand, Warnock may feel that the absence of Vidic is to be exposed with two strikers. Certainly Jonny Evans would find Helguson and the physical presence of Jay Bothroyd a handful.Either way, Loftus Road is an intimidating arena and if Rangers play their fluid football they are likely to give United a rough ride. Ferguson’s side cannot afford to be complacent against QPR. think thats a pretty fair assesment !

QPR v MANCHESTER UNITED FERGUSON NO CLUE WHO'LL GO DOWN
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson admits he doesn't have a clue who will be relegated from the Premier League this season.
Ferguson's Manchester United side head to QPR on Sunday with Neil Warnock's men's form having eased them clear of the drop zone and Ferguson accepts it is tough to name the unlucky trio likely to drop through the exit door in May.
"I could not predict how the bottom half of the league is going to shape out," said Ferguson.
"There have been many surprises over the years when teams who you never thought would be relegated around January end up doing so.
"It's so unpredictable. You see the three Lancashire teams down there - Blackburn, Bolton and Wigan. Then there's Sunderland, Fulham too - you couldn't believe they were two points off the bottom part of the league when you think of the spell they've had over the last couple of years.
"If you lose a few games you are right down the bottom."
Tony Fernandes' summer takeover at Rangers allowed Neil Warnock to go on a late spending spree, bringing in Joey Barton, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Anton Ferdinand to strengthen a squad already good enough to win the Championship last term.
"QPR invested the right way - they got players in," said Ferguson.
"Neil Warnock realised when you get into the big league you need to get better players.
"That gives them a better chance because it's an unremitting league, particularly for teams coming out of the Championship.
"Strangely, the three of them - Norwich, Swansea and QPR - have all done well in the first half of the season.
"But the real test is in the second half

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen for a Dimitar Berbatov return to action come Sunday when his men will face Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. The 30 year old limped off with a foot injury in United’s Carling Cup defeat to Championship outfit Crystal Palace last month.
Despite returning to training seven days ago, the Bulgarian was deemed not fit for last weekend’s Wolverhampton Wanderers clash. At a time where his side is plagued with injuries, Alex Ferguson is confident that Dimitar Berbatov’s return to fitness will come when United clash with QPR on the weekend. “Berbatov's fit and should be available for Sunday, Rafael is back training as well, which is good.
Darron Gibson got a knock last night [playing for United’s Reserve side]. We took him off as a precaution but he should be okay."I always enjoy going to Queens Park Rangers, it's always a good atmosphere and we used to be able to get a bigger support than normal. They used to give us one section - the one behind the goal and then part of the side, which alwaysmeant we had about 6,000 fans."We have a good record there and I hope we can continue that.
They've done well and given themselves a chance of staying in the league by investing and bringing in a few players. It's going to be a hard game.”Manchester United make the journey south to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday in a match that’s guaranteed to be a tough one for the former Aberdeen manager and his troop of merry men.
The Loftus Road outfit have only been defeated twice at home this season, with some of the league’s most promising sides, like Chelsea and Newcastle United, failing to get the three points in 90 minutes.
