Borussia Monchengladbach pair Marco Reus and Mike Hanke found a novel way of deciding who’s on free-kick duty by indulging in a game of ‘rock, paper, scissors’ during their 3-0 win over Cologne.\
With the Bundesliga joint leaders already three goals up after 47 minutes, Arsenal target Reus and 28-year-old Hanke had their own contest to determine who’d be pulling the trigger when they won a free-kick on the edge of the home side’s box.
Reus eventually had to step aside for the wily veteran, who obviously won the schoolyard game, but the youngster insists no offence was meant to be caused by the in-play shenanigans.
‘We didn’t want to make fun of anyone,’ explained Reus.
‘Mike was supposed to be the shooter, but he already had a brace. And I also wanted to score. That’s why I suggested that we figure it out.’
Incidentally, the German name for the game is called ‘schnick-schnack-schnuck’.
Can’t see that catching on in British playgrounds anytime soon.
