Long hoping Odemwingie partnership will 'click' against QPR
West Brom striker Shane Long admits his partnership with Peter Odemwingie is yet to "click" and fears it may take even longer to gel.
Albion splashed out a club record £6.5million on Irish marksman Long, 24, from Reading this summer.
Boss Roy Hodgson bought the ace to partner Odemwingie, who bagged 15 goals last season. Long has impressed with four goals and led the line well.
But the duo have only started together five times as Odemwingie, 30, has scored just twice and struggled with injuries.
Yet the pair could resume their faltering double-act on Saturday as Zoltan Gera is out for the season with a knee injury.
Long said: "Peter's a goal-scorer, he's good in the box and that's where we want him.
"I try to hold the ball up for him to do that.
"It takes time for a partnership to blossom and I'm sure if we get more time on the pitch it will work.
"Sometimes you just need for it to click.
"I'm learning my game, he's an intelligent footballer.
"I hope it's something that can work out for us."
Long is set to lead the Albion attack today at QPR despite a niggling groin injury which requires an injection.
He added: "I get an injection before the game which can hopefully get me through.
"I had one last week and got through 70 minutes ok against Tottenham.
"The muscle tightens up to protect itself and the injection relaxes the muscle and keeps the pain away."

Funnily enough, as bad as we've been this season, I have a funny feeling that if we win both the next two against Albion and Villa we'll actually stay up.
Winning these next 2 drags Villa, Hull and Albion right back in it and at this stage of the season the more teams you drag back into the dogfight the better your own chances become.

Agreed nomar - minimum of 4 points needed from these 2 games. 4 points is the minimum needed if we really are serious about stopping up. Its more of a testament to how poor the teams around us are that we still have a chance here if we can win these next two games. 6 points from these two will most likely see us out of the bottom 3 at the end of Tuesday night. The reality is that if ever they're going to get out of this then now is the time they have to start turning this around.
