FLASHBACK - July 2008

RAMAGE RARING TO GORight-back Peter Ramage is eager to impress new boss Jim Magilton when the R's pre-season kicks off against Aldershot Town this weekend.
Rangers kick start their friendly campaign at The Recreation Ground at 3.00pm on Saturday and Ramage - buoyed by a successful first week of pre-season - is keen to start on the front foot.
"The lads are really looking forward to it, because it's what we've been working towards over the last week or so," he told
www.qpr.co.uk.
"Saturday signals the start of the countdown to the big kick-off in early August - we'll get the rustiness out and be focused on showing the boss what we're all capable of."
Today (Tuesday) signals the fifth full day of pre-season training and Ramage has been suitably impressed by Magilton, Gorman and co. so far.
"It's been very good. It's all been football related and that's great for the lads," he said.
"We've done specific football stuff and some five-a-sides, fun and games if you like, but the focus of it all is around keeping the ball and playing a passing brand of football.
"It's been really enjoyable and that's great for us because it builds team spirit."
In his ninth pre-season as a professional, Ramage admits to be 'blown away' by how varied the training is compared to his early days at Newcastle United.
"It's changed like you'd never believe," he said.
"From the first minute of pre-season we had the balls out which was unbelievable. Back in the old days, we'd be running for two weeks and wouldn't see a football until just before the first friendly!
"Every year it gets more football orientated - of course its fitness related, but it's football fitness as opposed to athletic fitness."

SEPTEMBER 2008
London Informer - Ramage: We'll only get betterPeter Ramage reckoned he made a 'life-changing' decision to join QPR - but the Geordie reckons he was left with little choice after Kevin Keegan bombed him out at Newcastle.
And the full-back was as uncertain of west London life as were the rest of the defence in the first three games - but in both cases that's been sorted - he hopes.
Ramage was considered to be the next big thing in the north-east when he won the coveted Jackie Milburn Trophy for rising stars five years ago, but now he hopes to watch his star rise around W12.
"I've just got myself sorted with a place," he said. "And it was a bit of a life-changing decision, but Kevin Keegan was big enough to say he didn't think I was going to be part of his plans, and the chance for QPR was too good to turndown."
The defender, who made his Newcastle Premiership debut against Manchester United, reckoned a QPR team that recruited a new keeper, centre-half, as well as himself in the summer was always going to need time to bed in - and hey presto! Rangers conceded six goals in the first three games.
But the second three have been positively stingy with just one added to the goals-against column.
And that when the team had its back to the wall with 10 men for 40 minutes against Bristol City in the last match.
"We've been working hard on the training ground and now I think you can see the benefits of that," Ramage said.
"We looked solid against Bristol, and that's what we're about.
"Progressively, we've improved performance wise, firstly defensively and then in attack. We've got players who can score goals at any occasion and hopefully we can continue. London Informer
Ramage pens new deal with QPR as defender returns to Premier LeagueBy Sportsmail Reporter

Defender Peter Ramage has agreed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at QPR until 2012.
Ramage has made 74 appearances for the club since his arrival from Newcastle in 2008 but spent most of last season in the treatment room due to a knee injury.
The 27-year-old played in the final two fixtures of Rangers' npower Championship-winning campaign and manager Neil Warnock revealed the new deal is dependent on his fitness.

'Peter deserves this new contract,' Warnock told the club's official website.
'Obviously he's got to prove his fitness again in pre-season, but someone with his quality, attitude and love for the game is always worth having on board.
'He's a great man and a great character in the dressing room.'
Ramage has a point to prove and is determined to prove Warnock's loyalty was well placed as the club prepare for their return to the Barclays Premier League.
'I always wanted to stay here and the gaffer made it clear from the day I got injured that he'd give me a chance, so now it's up to me to repay the faith he's shown in me,' he said.

'I always had confidence that I'd get a new deal, but it's great to put pen to paper.
'Now I can focus all my attentions on getting ready for pre-season in early July. I feel I've got a point to prove and a lot to offer this club.
'I've got a great feeling for the place now and I'm proud to be a QPR player.
'Next season will be tough - we're under no illusions. But we've got great team spirit, coupled with some real quality and we're all excited about the challenge that lies ahead.'
