Flashback 7 Years....QPR chief exec: We must quit Loftus Road QPR chief executive officer Philip Beard believes the club can compete as equals with the Premier League's elite on and off the field - but would need to build a new stadium to do so. Beard, who was a senior member of the successful London 2012 Olympic Games bid team, joined the west Londoners six weeks ago following Tony Fernandes' recent takeover. With player acquisitions a closed subject until January and a myriad of changes already made off the field, QPR are turning their attention to achieving long-term ambitions. The club are looking to build their brand at home and abroad in a bid to increase revenues, while Beard has revealed a move away from Loftus Road to another part of Shepherds Bush could also be in the pipeline. "Loftus Road has a hell of an atmosphere when there is a game on but we're constrained by the fact we have under 20,000 seats in the stadium," he told Press Association Sport. "So if we are serious potentially about the long-term growth of the club then I think we have to be serious about looking at what I call a new football stadium as part of a hub of a wider entertainment destination. "Literally down the road from us you have Westfield [shopping centre] and you've got great transport facilities. "If we can grow our fanbase, both homegrown and internationally, then I hope the future is very bright for the club."Beard has also revealed plans are under way to raise standards of other aspects of the club to "Premier League level", which may also see them move away from their Harlington training base. "I think we have got to look at ourselves as a Premier League club," he added.
"Hopefully for the foreseeable future that is the case and because of that I think we have to look at the facilities and everything we do at the club."The reality is that the playing squad spend most of their time at the training facility and at the moment we rent Harlington, which isn't as good as a lot of other Premier League facilities. "We're looking at everything at the club and my aim is to look across at other Premier League clubs and feel we are comparable in all aspects of the business. "Both on the pitch and off the pitch, a club that can match most other clubs in the Premier League." While QPR have impressed on the most part since Fernandes and Beard came to the club, last weekend they suffered a 6-0 defeat at near neighbours Fulham. The result was compounded by allegations that Adel Taarabt stormed out of Craven Cottage at half-time and it was reported today that he wants to leave Rangers to earn more money. Asked about Taarabt and today's reports, Beard said: "The honest answer is I've not seen it yet so I need to find out more. "I think probably Sunday was a shock after how we have been playing. "Adel has a huge amount to offer QPR. He is a very, very important part of our squad at the moment. "But it does not matter whether you are part of a management team (or any team) you are part of a team so I don't want to single anybody out. "It is (manager) Neil Warnock's job to look after the playing side. "We've just got over a week until we play Blackburn and the most important thing for me is that the whole squad is working hard to come back fighting and hopefully with a win." iReader www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/QPR-must-leave-Loftus-Road-because-is-it-too-small-says-chief-executive-Philip-Beard-article808802.html

Yes he talks very well. I can see why him and fernandes work well together.
To be run by 2 professionals takes some getting used to because we are so used to mistakes and clowns effecting our club

First Mr. Beard, build a team that can stay in the Prem. Agree but I don't think they will take chances regarding that. I'd expect to see some more players coming in throughout jan. Jan isn't a great time to sign big name players though.

First Mr. Beard, build a team that can stay in the Prem. Amen. Then build the stadium, no point going to league one with a lovely 32,000 seater stadium like Southampton. Having said that Saints will be back next year, looks like.

Well said The Beard, how refreshing is he to the club??
If we are to stay up and become a regular Premier League side a new stadium is the biggest step forwards. Only if we don't have a soulless bowl built.

I'd put money on Westfield being our destination when we do move.

I saw an article somewhere about the BBC moving out of White City completely including the newish offices on the old White City Stadium site, apparently that is the site we are interested in and in negotiations for. So it's not the Television Centre.

What a load of old rubbish.
This half-wit who thinks he's Chapman, Busby, Paisley and Ferguson all rolled into one knows how to enable QPR to compete?
"As EQUALS with the Premier League's ELITE ... on and off the field".
So, not just the bottom of the table dross that beats us 6-0. But Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, all quaking in their boots.
What's the secret? Guess what? Not selling off LR and pocketing the proceeds? No, silly, the new stadium we've been hearing about for oh, so long. That should do the trick.
OK, Mr Bear. What capacity will enable us to 'compete' with the 'elite'? Well, if he means merely getting promotion to the Premiership, about 18,000 does the job, doesn't it? Assuming 'compete' is just a bit of verbal disinformation implying 'match the elite in excellence' but really indicating nothing more than 'run out on the same pitch'.
Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. He has a long track record of expertise in football, having won I don't know how many titles at any number of clubs among the ELITE of the English game. Mr Beard, I mean. Who else.
So how big? Bearing in mind that 'compete' rhymes with 'elite' should we stride ahead of them all - putting the 'elite' right into the 'compete' - with 100,000 straight off. Ready for the next Olympics, eh? The next Cricket World Cup. The next Rugby World Cup. Jehovah's Witnesses conventions. Global Financial Meltdown seminars.
The others will build bigger ones, won't they? Of course they will. Once we're the elite, with whom they must compete. So we need to be well ahead, not to fall even further behind.
Would 100,000 give us a head start among the European ELITE too? Or should we leave a significant portion of the site empty, and go for the 80,000 starter pack just to edge us ahead of Manchester United?
Too small? Too big? Too much? Not enough?
He hasn't a clue.
Arsenal, with 7 decades of (relative) success behind them, had a 20,000 waiting list for season tickets (bigger than our present best attendances) and they went for 60,000.
But Arsenal have been runners-up 8 times.
That's 8 times more than QPR. Not to mention the 13 Titles THEY ACTUALLY WON. All right, that was before Beard arrived, and before Fernandes and Bhatia declared we had loans but no debts.
Hasn't mentioned the debts, has he?
But mere size, wealth, income, success - income is QUITE different to 'revenues' - you get tired of that kind of thing. Especially when you consider we're a Club with a Hub. Only a long walk from Westfield that probably takes less time than the wonderful 'transport facilities' which have been there for 100 years and never seemed to make much difference.
Mr Beard, who is four years old, and uses his Mum's old letraset, has done well. Bigger, better, compete, elite, and I nearly forgot -'potential'. And Westfield. Damn! Did I say Westfield. So important. No wonder Arsenal aren't coping. Absolutely MILES from Westfield. And as for United and City, their remoteness from this West London shopping mall - the Hub - spells doom.
See - 'hub' is just along the page from 'growth'. Growth, hub - hub, growth. And, of course, potential-growth-hub-Westfield. Elite-compete. Brand-bland. Revenues-schmevenues.
So I have to say I agree. He's got it licked.

The best part about what Beard says is that we don't even have to move and all that 'potential growth' remains!

chelsea have said that they are moving to compete with the revenue that arsenal bring in with their 60,000 stadia,
what happens when arsenal decide to pull away from chelsea yet again, shall we chase?
we will be chasing our tails.

Beard thinks we should stay put? Obviously not. If we aren't looking to move, we can't show potential. All of what he says is good enough to lend against for now. Sooner or later we'll move to the site over the road from the Unigate where White City Stadium used to be. Knock down a stadium, build an office block, knock that down, build another stadium and everyone's happy for a few more years at least. Until we move, we've got untapped potential, when we do it will become our future. Maudesfishnchips - it's not chasing, it's something to aim for. (It takes your mind off a lack of winning anything on the pitch).

Whatever happens regarding moving, if we stay as we are we will slowly sink, until we find our level with an 18k stadium, and doubt it will be the prem.
A number of factors came together, flav farking off for a year, that allowing amit to bring in neal and managing without interference, and then TF taking over, enjoy while it lasts, how often does that happen to a smallish club like our's.
Think our owners are smart enough not to go in over their heads regarding new stadium and will use their contacts and knowhow to take some of the burden of costs and load onto sponsership.
Onwards and upwards juist hope i'm still around when it all happens.
