Maybe Paul Wartburton will give you a mention. Good piece as usual by Clive. I also questioned the point of loaning Taarabt but the Swansea game changed my view. His positive influence on the game/team has been very refreshing at a low point in the season.

Very good piece. In total agreement with him over Taarabt. Get the youngsters on the pitch now, please!

I remember us playing youngsters at the end of the season when we last went down. Lost 3-0 at home to Stockport. What's more special about this group, given the standard they play against and the reserve performance against Brighton? Genuine question.

Hi Andyg199, I do not think that this particular group of youngsters is more special than any other. My reasons for wanting to put the youngsters in stands from year to year and right now it is the perfect time to do so. We are not going to make the play-offs. Selling Dexter was for me the final nail in this season's promotion prospects coffin. I know we were a long way from achieving promotion yesterday morning but to let Dexter go now instead of in 6 weeks time is pretty incredulous to me and shows that we are not 'going for it' in the run in. This leaves us with 6 games left. As far as I am concerned with the amount of rebuilding going on at the club, both on and off the pitch, our final league position is not that important to me, now that I know it will be outside both the top 6 and the bottom 3. 10th, 14th, 8th or 12th, doesn't really matter to me as now we have a great oppurtunity to build for the future. By sticking the youngsters on we can see where they are in terms of ability and mental strength in relation to the first team. It will give the manager the ability to assess the youngsters in a first team game without it affecting on our league position negatively. It will give the youngsters confidence, experience and will also show the manager how the player fits in to his tactical line up and what his strengths and weeknesses are playing in that position. I would much rather we experimented with the team selection now, rather like we did in November and December when we changed management and Sousa set about shaping the team to how he wants it. We have the luxury now to see which players we want to keep and the players we don't, from the youngsters, and by playing them we are also putting them in the shop window and can add a little to the price as we can say he is a first team player come the end of the season! Overall it is also a philosophy. I believe in bringing youngsters through the system at Rangers, making our own top players and actively contributing to the development of football within the young community that surrounds us. That is what a football team should do. Winning trophies is not the be all and end all for me. Playing great football with players that we have produced would give me probably a greater sense of pride and joy than winning any trophy. I know that is a rare idiology in a football fan but I don't know why! The future is bright. The future is blue and white.

I think German could play the lone striker role and should be given the chance. Obviously Blackstock is not wanted, our season is not going anywhere (see Vine's recent quotes as opposed to the party line of promotion still being possible), and Forest's need was great.
There may be two or three youth/reserve players that could do well, maybe Rose being another, if given the chance up to the end of the season. I don't really count Balanta as he is just like a young senior pro rather than a youth product.
