Steve Lomas the new manager of St Neots (who I have to confess I had not heard of )
- Hunts Post - St Neots announce Lomas as new manager
ST NEOTS Town have appointed ex West Ham player Steve Lomas as their new manager.
Lomas was in charge for Saturday's defeat at Long Buckby, where he was also on the bench. He will feature as a player for the club to help coach the young side along with ex-Manchester City player Michael Hughes, who is expected to take on an assistant manager role under Lomas.
Lomas, who has played for Northern Ireland, said he is "looking forward" to his first job in management. He will be in charge until at least the end of the season, though the club hope he will be in charge longer.
St Neots Town chairman John Delaney said the club have high expectations of their new manager, and that they "expect to win the league next season".

Lomas got involved with St Neots after a request from his friend John Gregory, who he used to play under at Queens Park Rangers. "It's pretty hard to get into management and when I came here I saw the facilities, I was very impressed with John's [Delany] ambitions and the boys seemed like a nice, honest group of lads," said Lomas.
"It goes without saying that they are down at the bottom and there are lots of young lads so we need to add a few experienced men that can get in there and match the rougher teams.
"If the lads can give me the same commitment that they gave on Saturday then I will be happy, and we should have got something from that game. I want to check out the club and get things moving and by bringing in some experienced players it will add a bit of quality as well.
"At this level John has big ambitions and you have to start somewhere and slowly but surely you build the club up. If we can get some more local boys in and mix that with a bit of pedigree then more people will start coming and it will all snowball.
"Everything is a challenge and I want to win the league and I'm not coming here to sit mid table. I want to manage at as high a level as I can and my first priority is to assess the squad and add strength so we can make a title challenge next year and we have to set those high standards to succeed.
"The team have 10 league games left to show me what they can do and if they are not committed then I will be looking to replace them. The primary concern is to look art the team and to go forward this season because so far the team has not been good enough and that's the brutal honesty of it. They should be higher in the table but for whatever reason they aren't.
"You have to battle it out in this league for 70 minutes and then if you have real quality you can make it through the last 20 minutes. We can iron out the problems with experience and make the squad stronger for next season.
"I would like to think that I'm the man to meet the ambitions of the clubs as I was ambitious as a player and I will be as a manager. The lads want to do well and they have the facilities to be successful.
"I'm glad to be back in football as when I was out for a while it was just boring not to be involved and I've always been passionate about the sport. I'm looking forward to the challenge of working with the lads and we have some difficult games coming up for me to see what they're all about."
Delaney was pleased with the appointment of Lomas and hopes he will stay at the club beyond the end of this season.
"Steve is first and foremost a very competitive person, an out and out winner who has a desire to succeed. He is also a good communicator and good at man management and has high expectations and standards for the team.
"I think he will raise the game of the team and I think he will move their attitude forward significantly, though it will probably be four or five games before we start to see his team come through.
"I expect some very high quality additions to be made to the squad over the next week. We still want to be a local club but the new players will help the young lads to develop.
"We are very ambitious here and we want to win the league next season. We see the back end of this season as a very key time and this gives us a great opportunity to look at everything before next year. We have high expectations that this is the start of something special."
Saints had been under the temporary care of Grant Ager and Mel Hancock, who led the side to two defeats after Marvin Johnson was sacked on March 4.
Lomas will hope to see a quick improvement in his side's poor away form for which Johnson was sacked, as their next two league games are away to teams above them. St Neots have won just one of 16 games on the road this season.
