From The Express "...He and Briatore are preparing to sell QPR FC for about £100m. “ There are three or four parties interested,” said Ecclestone. “I want the deal done quickly. “The season kicks off a week on Saturday and I don’t know if we would want to still be negotiating past then.” Daily Express - Wednesday August 3,2011 By Bob McKenzie
BERNIE ECCLESTONE: 'PRISON? I WILL LEAD F1 FOR YEARS’
BERNIE ECCLESTONE has warned critics that, far from being locked up in a German prison, he plans to be in control of Formula One for years to come. “I will be doing what I do best for a while yet – making good deals to keep a lot of people happy and well off in F1,” said Bernie Ecclestone, 80. “Some might not want me to continue but I enjoy what I do. That is what I’ll be judged on.” German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky is being investigated by authorities and claims he was paid £27million by Ecclestone in 2005 when F1 was being sold. Ecclestone says he made a payment because Gribkowsky, who was chief risk officer at Bayern LB, which sold a 47 per cent stake in F1 to the current owners, CVC, was “shaking me down”. Former Renault F1 boss and Ecclestone’s friend, Flavio Briatore, has been mentioned in the German tax probe.
“In no shape or form is Briatore involved in this,” said Ecclestone.
“He did make a payment for me but only because I asked him after this man Gribkowsky threatened to make trouble for me and said he did not want the money paid direct from the UK. “Briatore did me a favour and, far from being dragged into this, I told the German prosecutor about it. That is how his name has appeared.”Ecclestone also says that, contrary to reports, his Formula One Management lawyers have not been investigated, although several connected to his family trust, Bambino, have spoken to the German authorities. “Neither have my company lawyers been investigated,” he said. “I don’t worry about this a bit. The end [for me]? Of course not.” Asked if he would be around for another couple of years, Ecclestone said: “Are you restricting me? If I can keep delivering, that’s all I need to do.” He and Briatore are preparing to sell QPR FC for about £100m.
“There are three or four parties interested,” said Ecclestone. “I want the deal done quickly.

Good news I say! Bernie's done with this football nonsense and wants to get rid of QPR sooner rather than later.
The question remains - is Briatore one of the 3-4 parties interested (?)
Mittal, Fernandes, Mordashov (?) and ...

Sounds like normal business talk, pretend there's more interest than there really is in order to get the only potential investor to step up to the plate.

Maybe...But there has been the thought developing in the last few days that maybe Fernandes was joining in/rather than taking over. And that Ecclestone/Briatore would remain....This sounds like Ecclestone is planning to sell up (out?)

I agree mac that Cash seems to want out and sell, if he is being quoted properly. He does speak his mind and say it how it is (good quality imo). My guess, he and Tango will sell all their shares but as to who, God knows!

Hmm... The one consistent aspect of quotes in the press from the owner is that they are inconsistent! I recall he has previously said something along the lines of:
Having to get more involved then he wanted to in the short term but with a view to selling sooner rather than later; That just because people said they wished to buy the club did not mean it was for sale; Plus all the most recent stuff (and I am sure that those with a better memory can find other equally contradictory statements attributed to the owner/s).
Generally his conversations with the media appear to be a bit of a game in which he seems to get some enjoyment from starting hares running and then doing something different.
I have to say as much as I dislike many aspects of the currrent regime, I do have some sympathy regarding the problem of recruiting players with the unsustainable wage demands and additional fees that seem to be part of the Premier League circus. I look at what happened to Portsmouth with similar stadium capacity constraints but went on a huge spending spree and I do not want to see high profile high cost signings and see QPR suffer the same fate.
That said the lack of even a reasonable amount of investment to strengthen in key areas certainly does indicate that there is no desire to hold on to the club for the medium term but to sell at the point where the price will be at its peak, i.e. before the season gets underway and reality may see the value diminish if results are poor. I do not suppose that in considering bids they will have any concern as to whether new owners offer decent stewardship of the club.
I am genuinely uncertain about how Rangers will fare. Whilst I accept that there are some areas of weakness in the team given the challenge ahead, we do seem to have a very strong spirit in the team, some hard working players and one or two talented individuals who could blossom given the chance. I just hope that whether the current people stay in charge, or new owners do come in that it is not a vanity project.
I really do think that someone with the right approach who is looking to build a sustainable club could make a real success at QPR. In the longer term I think that must mean a new stadium and a reconnection with the fan base. I also think that there is potential to grow the support that would justify a new ground. Many years ago I remember Charlton struggling to get five figure attendances in the old Division Two at a very run down Valley, but when they got to the Premier League they grew a sizeable and consistent fan base. They had a team that played decent football and a price structure that offered value for money.
I do not see why a QPR with owners that saw it as a longer term project could not do the same. If we can maintain PL status and regain our reputation as a good footballing team where good young players get a chance to play regular first team football (and yes get sold at a profit) it could happen.
If potential buyers want a quick fix then all I see is more of the same with a different name on top of the entrance door.

I said a few weeks ago, I'd rather be in the Championship with Mittal complete owner. And Bhatia is charge. Than be in the Premiership under the precarious Ecclestone/Briatore - and who knows re Fernandes. And it's not a question of Mittal heavily funding QPR. It's stability, rationality, etc.

Sorry but how exactly is Mittal a "tight F***er"? Ask any miner working for him in Kazakhstan. Specifically investment in safety equipment that was promised some time ago after several fatal accidents that they are still waiting for. Secondly considering he paid £200,000 for his shares, received an additional 13% for free and has only met his obligations towards our running costs, which he has ceased to do so since Bhattia resigned, how exactly, in our case specifically, is he not? I know he spent a lot on his box, but really, Crocodile wallpaper does not help the team.

Smudge on the matter -
@smudge1962 Paul Smith Bernie Ecclestone claiming three or four parties are in the bidding for QPR. An absolute load of rubbish.
@smudge1962 Paul Smith I originally wrote they were using Seymour Pierce to sell QPR. But this claim of other interested parties if to flush out Tony Fernandes
@smudge1962 Paul Smith I'm told they are beginning to suspect he doesn't have the money to do a deal and talks are cooling.

We want a deal concluded before the PL season starts. That would be the fastest sale in the history of selling football clubs. I'm told they are beginning to suspect he doesn't have the money to do a deal and talks are cooling.

Smudge claiming there are not a number of bidders seems to confirm the point I made earlier about BE's public comments! The bit I am slightly puzzled about is the reference to a question mark about the financial credibility of TF. I would have thought that BE will have a bit of an idea of his worth through the F1 connection and he must have plenty of advice available to him about the wealth of potential buyers anyway?

"..beginning to suspect he doesn't have the money to do a deal.."
As soon as Tony Ferrino was mentioned most said he didn't have that kind of money...Oh and PUFF may have been mentioned too!
Does Smudge honestly expect anyone to believe Bernie doesn't know the man's financials?

Something that just came to mind, has anyone thought that maybe all the reports linking Fernandes with a takeover is wrong and the only reason he went out to Italy is to tie up a sponsorship deal with Air Asia??
It would make sense as it seems Fernandes blatantly doesn't have enough money to buy the club and Bernie + Flavio would have known this from the start.

I've never though he would spend a third of his wealth on a club he doesn't support.

good point rory. that is certainly looking like the case. and at the same time, tango and cash are using him as bait to lure mittal into a bid. wont work though. from reading cernyberny comments on not 606, im starting to think he does have strong connection at the club and just maybe he could be right about some mystery russian waiting in the wings. cant wait to see what happens in the next episode.

Also maybe the reason they took that Daily Mail reporter with them to Italy was to feed him stories of a Fernandes takeover to try and get the Mittal's to buy the club, when in fact it was just sponsor talks Was that a little bit too conspiracy theory-ish?
