As I just noted, I saw just before WATRB's site crashed, Pete had posed some discussion question about Paladini on WATRB. I started to read it, slowly, and then it crashed. So I may not have gotten the full gist.
Still this site's working. Pete's not personally involved in fixing the WATRB problem. So come on over Pete, and repost your question or repost the point you were making. And all welcome. The guests. The visitors.
As I noted here, Paladini just commemorated five years since he first saw QPR play. So it would be a good time to consider his current role. (Forget the "He Saved the Club" - or his "52 lies") Paladini as Sporting Director: How is he doing such a good job? Is he worth what he's earning? Why should he be kept on? Why should he be fired? And any other perspectives.

Mike, what about the Magical Magyar?..... For me its hard to predict. Also what parameters will Briatore use. I dont see him being the announced "Has decided to move on " for personal reasons. If the plan is a 5 year one, he could be around a long time. i see Flav doing this in his own unique way, the team building thing. If Paladini leaves this job he will be promoted somewherein the financial end. His current role hasnt changed. he and Sousa are probably more together. the Tarabt loan? Wonder who initiated that. Or did spurs contact us.?

.... If Paladini leaves this job he will be promoted somewherein the financial end. ...." That I would find hard to believe I'd imagine if he was kept at the club and was no longer Sporting Director, it would be more in the social arena. Not Financial. And not PR.

Thanks Eusebio13 for pointing out the WATRB site is back up. Ok: This is the Pete post I mentioned, I started reading before it crashed. I'll wait - hopefully not till "Hell Freezes Over" for Pete to come over here to discuss the subject. Pete on the WATRB Sensible Debate On Sporting Directors/Player Buys [(Nicely titled!)]I am a great believer if you have managers like Sousa or even De Canio, you need a guy to broker the deal and to buy the players and through scouts get them watched. If you are managed by a English manager or a manager who knows a league, I have no problem with letting him have full control. Clubs in general seem divided on whether a manager should have full control or just take control of team matters. For me its important for a manager to identify a type of player, then for someone else to get him in. So my argument is if we were managed by someone like Harry Redknapp or even a Gary Johnson, who knows the market, but when you have a foriegn coach, it is a different ball game altogether. It can be argued that someone like Dowie would also know more about the championship, than say a Sousa. www.wearetherangersboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2666And of course one immediate response: Even if we need/want a Sporting Director/Director of Football (and I've said a case could be made for that if Briatore wants it): That in no way makes the case for why Gianni Paladini should be that Sporting Director. A different Sporting Director brings in different/better players. As I said this site is open to Pete...

dont forget mike under gregory he bought leighterwood
i do love gianni hes brought some fantastic players but for some reason he keeps failing withy strikers
HE SHOULD KICK OUT THE CLUB AYEGEMANG, DE CARMINE AND HELGERSON THERE ALL USELESS
but he has made a massive profit with his other purchases
BLACKSTOCK IS OK
BUT WE NEED GARY HOOPER AND TWO OTHERS
THEN NEXT SEASON WE SHOULD GET PROMOTION
OUR DEFENCE AND MID FIELD IS OK
mike ive met paladini and he is an ok guy but hes human and can make mistakes sometimes with his players

I imagine Weavie that you'd agree that despite him being an "ok guy" (or more), he should only be judged as Sporting Director on his performance as Sporting Director. Not anything he did that before.
If we can agree on how to judge him, then it's "only" a question of whether he's done well or not; to what degree anything re players his fault or not, etc.

Well while I wait for Pete to join in the conversation. A good couple of summary sentences. "...As for the criteria, I suspect being a football agent for a number of years, would help enormously in a sporting director role. Whoever it might be and if you take the personal stuff away, think we have a good one"
I on the other hand, think that being a former footballer, former coach, former manager would help enormously in a sporting director role.

I have to confess: It's kind of frustrating seeing the same flawed points made in favour of Paladini as Sporting Director. The same old arguments. And the repeated attacks upon those who dare to critique - And I remain I just wonder how a few are going to handle it if and when he departs. Just to rectify one of many flaws by repeating what I've said previously - and what should be self-evident to anyone: Being a successful agent has very little relevance to being a successful Sporting Director. To continue some other time.
