EXCLUSIVE: DYER PENS ONE-YEAR DEAL
Wed 13 Jul 2011
Queens Park Rangers Football Club have swooped to bring experienced England midfielder Kieron Dyer to Loftus Road.
The 32 year-old - who was a free agent following his release from West Ham United - has penned a one-year deal in W12 and becomes Neil Warnock's second summer signing following hot on the heels of the addition of England ace Jay Bothroyd.
A player with exceptional ability, Dyer's career has been stop-start in recent years due to injury, but the talented midfielder - who has 30-plus England caps to his name - is looking forward to a fresh start in the famous Blue and White Hoops and can't wait to make up for lost time.
"I'm just delighted to be here," he told www.qpr.co.uk.
"QPR are an ambitious Club and when I sat down with Neil and he explained the vision for the Club - specifically the hunger and the determination of the squad - I just wanted to be part of it. He totally sold the Club to me."
Dyer added: "I've got something to prove after the couple of years I've had, but I feel good and I'm really looking forward to playing my part next season."
R's gaffer Warnock added: "When a player of Kieron's ability becomes available, you'd be crazy not to be interested.
"As far as I'm concerned it's a gamble worth taking. He really impressed me in training and it looks like he has been working hard on his fitness throughout the summer.
"I instantly liked him when we met. You get feelings like that as a Manager.
"He's had a lot of problems, but he's got something to prove. He's a hell of a good player and I still think he's got an opportunity to impress with us.
"He has a lot of experience and is desperate to play in the Premier League again. I like the hunger he's got and he wants to prove a point."
[And then the following year an extended contract!!!

QPR give Kieron Dyer another new deal after his seven-minute season
Queens Park Rangers have handed Kieron Dyer a one-year contract extension despite the injury-prone midfielder playing just seven minutes last season.
Queens Park Rangers confirm Kieron Dyer contract extension
The 33-year-old former England international broke his foot in the opening minutes of Queens Park Rangers' defeat by Bolton Wanderers at Loftus Road last August, and did not play again.
New manager Mark Hughes has decided to give the ex-Ipswich, Newcastle United and West Ham man another chance as he prepares for another campaign in the Premier League.
QPR also confirmed defender Clint Hill, midfielder Akos Buzsaky and goalkeeper Radek Cerny have all been offered new contracts at Loftus Road following the side's successful battle to stay up.
However, the likes of Wales centre-back Danny Gabbidon, Danny shitetu, Fitz Hall, Gary Borrowdale, Peter Ramage, Lee Cook, Rowan Vine and Patrick Agyemang are all set to leave the club when their deals expire at the end of June as the Hoops look to slash a sizeable wage bill.
Rangers beat the drop despite losing in dramatic fashion at Etihad Stadium as Manchester City were crowned champions on the final day of their rollercoaster first Premier League campaign.
Chairman Tony Fernandes, who replaced Neil Warnock with Hughes in January, has his sights firmly set on a prolonged stay back among England's elite clubs.
He said on London24.com: "I feel confident that Mark is potentially the man who could take QPR into another era, a stable era, where we become an established Premier League club.
"Mark is immensely impressive. He has got a great personality, is very ambitious, down to earth, has his ego in check and he knows his stuff.
"He was a player in the Premier League for a long time so he has competed at the highest levels. Every club he has been to he has excelled at.
"I want to be a club like Arsenal or Manchester United, who have had the same manager for a long time, and West Ham as well, when John Lyall and Ron Greenwood were there."
Air Asia and Caterham F1 Team boss Fernandes added: "Stability is important. You can't build anything without that. You can't do things if you don't have time.
"I am not saying we want to be champions tomorrow, Europe or whatever, but I think the next stage is for us to be a club which will remain in the Premier League for a long time."
Rangers have plans for a state-of-the-art training facility and are keen to explore stadium options, with Loftus Road's capacity standing at just over 18,000.
Fernandes said: "People might ask how we would fill a 40,000-seater stadium, but I built an airline from a few hundred thousand passengers and now we have 32 million.
"Build it right, market it right, and people will come. We are in the best city in the world, and in the best part of London."

In July 2011 Dyer signed a one-year contract with Queens Park Rangers.[42] He made his debut on 13 August 2011, the opening day of the Premier League season, against Bolton Wanderers, but after just three minutes he was stretchered off with an injured foot.[43] During his recovery, he sustained ligament damage to his foot in a reserve game. This injury required surgery and he was ruled out for the remainder of the season.[44] Because of his injury, Dyer was omitted from QPR's 25-man squad for the second half of the 2011–12 Premier League season. Despite only playing seven minutes of the 2011–12 season, Dyer signed a one-year contract extension with Queens Park Rangers to keep him at the club until the end of the 2012–13 season.[45] He scored his only goal for the club, in stoppage time, on 5 January 2013, in an FA Cup third round tie against West Bromwich Albion to finish the game 1–1, his first goal in almost six years.[46] Just three days later, he was released from QPR by manager Harry Redknapp, stating "[Dyer] wasn't in my plans".[47] In January 2013, after his release Dyer began training with Ipswich Town to maintain fitness while looking for a new club.[48]

QPR have agreed a deal to sign Kieron Dyer.
Dyer was available on a free transfer after an injury ravaged four years at West Ham, in which he made just 30 league appearances.
The 32-year-old, who cost the Hammers £6million back in 2007, is taking a huge pay-cut to stay in London with the Premier League new boys and has signed a short-term performance-related deal.
Dyer, who spent last season on loan at Ipswich, has 33 caps for England but hasn't featured since 2007, when Steve McClaren was in charge.
