Stanley withdrew from the competition after finding out that Ray Putterill had played in the tie at Tranmere Rovers the day after he should have begun a 42-day ban, imposed for swearing at a referee while playing for Halewood Town in the Liverpool County Premier League last season. Stanley midfielder Ray Putterill scored in the Northern Section First Round win over Tranmere when he should have been sitting out a ban picked up at previous club Halewood. Accrington went on to win the game in a dramatic penalty shoot-out. At an FA hearing, Stanley were fined £2,000 and Putterill was also fined and handed a two-match ban that he must serve immediately, ruling him out of Saturday’s trip to Hereford United. www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/accringtonstanley/news/8464730.Accrington_Stanley_fined_over_Putterill_ban/
