With Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding invites going out to around 2000 guests last week, society columns and blogs the world over have been speculating about who’s made the cut. While US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have made it to the list of final invitees for t
he April 29 wedding, a few Indian royals are on the coveted guest list.
Sources say that the gilded invitations for the nuptials have made their way to Maharaja Gaj Singh II of Jodhpur, Sawai Bhawani Singh Bahadur of Jaipur and Captain Amarinder Singh of Patiala, all of whom are known to be close friends of the Royal Family, especially Prince Charles. “Maharaja (Gaj Singh) of Jodhpur is a close friend of the English Royal Family and will surely be part of the international arrivals for the wedding,” said designer Raghavendra Rathore from Jodhpur.
Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh Bahadur also has close ties with the British Royal Family, and is said to have been invited. “I’ll have to get back to you on this,” was the response from his daughter, Princess Diya Kumari, when asked to confirm.

In October 2010, Princes Charles and wife Camilla had spent a day with Maharaja Gaj Singh II, 63, and the rest of Jodhpur’s royal family at the Umaid Bhawan Palace. Princes Charles shared a long lunch with the royal family, and even joined them for a traditional dinner the same day.
Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh Bahadur
Jaipur’s Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh Bahadur, 79, has known Princes Charles for many years. In fact, when Charles had visited India back in 1992 with his then wife, Princess Diana, the English Royal Family had spent a lot of time with Bhawani Singh and his family.
Captain Amarinder Singh
In October 2010, Princes Charles and Camilla stayed with 68-year-old former chief minister of Punjab the at the New Moti Bagh palace in Patiala. They had also visited a host of organic farms in the area. Captain Amarinder had also hosted a dinner for the couple, to which 250 prominent guests were invited.
